Incredicoaster advice

YES! We have 3 of them and they are amazing. I got them on Amazon. You want to search "UV Blocking Umbrella." It should have a silver, foil like or black lining on the underside. They can be kind of heavy, but are completely worth carrying around. You will feel about 10-15 degrees cooler while standing under it. In CA in summer, it's not the AIR that is hot, but the actual sun. The air temp rarely goes above 90 unless we are having an extreme heat wave. We have had a couple heat waves lately, but temps didn't go above high 80s, for the most part. The sun feels brutal, though, if there happen to be no clouds in the sky.
This is so true!!! I tell people I’d rather it be 90 degrees in the shade than 75 in the direct sun!!! And they think I’m crazy.

There’s something about the direct sun that just seems so so hot regardless of what the actual temp is. And conversely, it doesn’t seem as bad in the shade even if the temp is higher.

Can you just carry it onto the rides with you? Any restrictions?
Yes, there are restrictions, most of which seem pretty common sense to me. While waiting for our Storybook Canal Boat, I saw that an Asian lady in front of me was asked to close her parasol while on the ride, which makes sense to me, given that an open parasol or umbrella could obscure other guests’ views. Also, any place where selfie-sticks would prove a safety hazard (e.g. Incredicoaster) I would never use an open parasol. When touring the parks, I opened it when walking from ride to ride and closed & put it into my backpack when entering the more confined spaces of some waiting areas (fortunately those do often have at least some shade) or the ride itself.

I worry a bit about parasols’ catching on big time, becoming a huge nuisance in the hands of less considerate people, and being banned at some point, but so far so good.

Hi Ela, I know what you mean about not liking Splash's final drop. If you are okay with RnR and EE, you will be fine with Incredicoaster. Splash's drop feels very unnerving because there is nothing to hold you in the seat except for gravity. If you experienced the same drop snug within a shoulder restraint, it would feel less intense. I can ride ToT, Incredicoaster without any sense of anxiety but I still get the heebies about riding Splash - all because of that last drop!

Incredicoaster is faster, has a steeper vertical angle and longer drop, but because it is so fast, that initial drop is over in a snap. It's kind of like ripping a bandaid off. Unpleasant to remove, but worse if you go slower. :)

Incredicoaster - how does it compare to the rides at WDW?
I like RnRC, BTMRR, tolerate EE and really do not enjoy Splash (due to the drop at the end) what will I think? I watched a video but still can’t gauge it.

Hello fellow UK person!

It's quite different from any of the coasters in WDW in feel, IMO. Smoother than most though - similar to Everest in that respect. Where it's different is with the drops and airtime. It depends on the reasons why you don't like Splash Mountain's drop, but these drops are steeper and have mild airtime, which is lacking on any coaster in WDW I think. The bunny hops towards the end are especially fun - a series of floaty hills which can't fail to bring a smile to your face! Other aspects to the ride - the launch, G forces around the banked corners, and the single loop - are similar in feel to coasters with those elements in WDW.

Note that Splash mountains' drop, and also the big drop on Expedition Everest, don't really give you any airtime. Needs to be a parabolic curve in order to give you that nice weightless feeling, as you would experience with Tower of Terror. In fact, how are you with Tower of Terror?

Hi,
Nice to hear from a fellow Brit!
I hate the sick feeling I get on splash I brace my feet, hold on for dear life and scream so much you don’t want to be sat in front of me 😂😂. I can just about manage Expedition Everest!
I love tower of terror and rock n roller coaster.
I don’t do space mountain at WDW as it is “rough” - I have bad joints and the shaking doesn’t help but I enjoyed it at Disneyland (go figure - no idea why!)

Sounds like you and I like the same rides. Unfortunately the rest of my family are rollercoaster junkies!!

I rode the Incredicoaster last October for the first time. I am 58 and with my age and stiff joints don't really care for coasters much anymore. My wife refused to go so I did the single rider line which got me on fairly quickly. As other posters have said, it is very smooth and I prefer it over Space Mountain. I just wished I had paid attention to it before riding and noticed it had a loop. If I ever made another trip to Disneyland, I would be game enough to do it again.

I'll just chime in and say I think Incredicoaster is a little more intense than RNRC, though not by much. There are drops and one big loop, so there are fewer inversions, but more drops (RNRC is basically all corkscrews). It also launches you uphill. That said, don't let it scare you. If you can handle RNRC, you should be fine in IC, and the theme is really cool.

Well, I'm a coaster veteran (ridden about 650 coasters all over the world...), I don't get that "sick" feeling, so I'm just trying to understand what it is you like and don't like! Now, Tower of Terror would certainly be a ride that I thought would give you that stomach in mouth sensation, which is similar to a coaster with floating airtime. But if you like Tower of Terror anyway, then maybe you might like Incredicoaster. Perhaps someone else in this topic hit the nail on the head when they said that the big drop on Splash Mountain is slow. I can see that - you start off from practically still at the top then it feels like the boat is just slipping away from you that you have no control over. That's the same feeling you might get towards the back in a coaster. But at the end of the day, Splash Mountain is just a log flume.

When all is said and done, I always say you might as well try it once. If you don't like it, then that's fine, you don't have to do it again. But you might just find something special.

Yes, WDW Space Mountain can be brutal! It too has some airtime moments but they're more abrupt. It's the same ride system as Matterhorn Boblseds in California. But California Space Mountain is a completely different system, layout, and is much smoother.

Also, when comparing them with Rock n Roller Coaster, if you didn't know this before then go searching on Youtube for a ride called XPress at Walibi Holland. It's exactly the same as Rock n Roller Coaster but out in the open, so you can see what it does and compare it with Incredicoaster (spoiler: they're nothing like each other!). And these rides are similar to Paris Space Mountain.

Big tip - try not to stiffen up on these rides. Especially coasters. You said that you brace yourself, and of course for safety reasons you have to make sure you're stable and ready for any jolts, especially braking. However, on a coaster if you tighten your muscles and grip really hard, you're going to feel every bump through your body and it's going to be jarring. Try to "go with the flow" and just move wherever it takes you, while still being aware that it might throw you around a bit. Try it next time you're a passenger in a car - really dig your feet into the foot well and grip onto the door handles tightly - you're not going to find the ride very pleasant!

I will try and follow your advice.
I used to love coasters, growing up 40mins from Blackpool who wouldn’t! My kids just think I’m strange as it’s just Splash that’s a problem - oh well I’ll try it and see!

In regards to weather, I think it’s pretty warm even in the evenings. It will be hot during the day. August and September are two of the hottest months in Southern California, and Anaheim doesn’t cool down quite like the coastal communities of San Diego. It will definitely be pleasant in the evenings though. We were there in June and twice in July and my youngest daughter, whose body fat percentage is a decimal point, needed a lightweight jacket in June but it was still warm both trips in July at 10pm. Even waiting for fireworks and parade it wasn’t quite cold. Quite cold, in my opinion, happens not in summer. 😂 Since you are from the UK I doubt you’ll be cold but you can always bring a hoodie just in case!
