I received an email from Costco that the hotel tax has been increased for my Waikiki stay - will this affect my Aluani stay also? I booked it with Disney Travel and haven’t heard anything from them. Is Aulani in Honolulu county?

From Costco
“We are writing to inform you of a change to your Vacation Package. Honolulu County (Oahu) is implementing a 3% increase to the existing Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT) on all reservations to their island. To comply with the implementation of this additional TAT tax, your Vacation Package price has increased.

Yep. My reservation went from $6,103 to $6,263. The agent I talked to said they're sending emails out to everyone, but that it's in some kind of sequential order so not everyone is getting them at the same time.

What happened is that the state of Hawaii used to share 3% of the TAT with the counties (each island is a county). Now, via a recent change in state law, the state is keeping it all. So the counties have each implemented their own 3% tax to make up for it.

Yes. Asked about it today during check in. My cost for 7 nights for Transient Tax was $140

Yes. I did not get a notice from Aulani, but when I called reservations about a different matter, they mentioned that I still owed $14 on my deposit and that my total cost was $100(ish) more than before. They didn’t seem to know why at first, but eventually they put me on hold and must have asked someone bc we figured out it was the tax increase.

What size unit were you in? The Transient Tax is based on unit size.

They have an updated chart under booking guidelines for those that want to know exact charges

Yes and no. The transient tax is based on a calculated dollar value of the points cost per night. So a 1BR will cost more than a Studio, but a Studio in July will cost more than a Studio in January.

All of this is a little bit different than the OP's question. OP appears to be a cash guest paying this as part of the overall hotel tax charged by the state of Hawaii. For cash guests who booked a 2022 vacation in 2021, they will see that their total cost is higher now than it was when they booked it, because Disney had to update those rates for cash guests as well as points guests.

Is this located on the general Aulani website or within the DVC member info, or maybe both places for cash/points transient tax?

thank you!

under plan a vacation on the top of the dvc website there is a subsection booking guidelines. When you click on that, you scroll down to additional booking information and under the dvc resort section click see more and the Hawaii tax will be at the bottom of that list as a pdf
