Increase in rude and obnoxious people?

We had a pleasant trip last May. There was only one instance where we were disappointed in a parents behavior, but we didn't let that ruin our trip.

My DD4 had a balloon at MK and we were on the teacups and the dad let his daughter kick it while he held her. He even went as far as brining it closer to her. When we got off, they were gone and I heard air coming out and it went flat. The girls wanted to go back to the resort just before a parade and couldn't replace it with a new balloon due to the vendors not being out during parade time.

You can't let things like that ruin your entire trip and it doesn't do much good to complain to friends about it. I agree with others that the comments you and your friends may had made is in bad taste.

I believe in Karma for people (rude people at WDW)who put themselves above and before others...

I know that this may not be a popular post and I even except some ridicule, but I’ve been itching to ask it.

I’ve had an increased number of friends and acquaintances tell me that they have noticed an increase in rude and obnoxious people visiting Disney World in the last few month. They told me it was like there was a Trailer Park Convention in town and half of them skipped it to go to Disney.

We love Disney and try to make it a yearly visit with the family. We have always had a great time even when it becomes busy. I have 4 little ones and we used to get season passes to Six Flags near our home, but stopped because of the rudeness, line cutting, and excessive use of the F-bomb in casual conversations by others. (Mostly unsupervised teens)
We cut back on everything to save so we can afford to take the trip to Disney, but I would be very disappointed if what I am being told is true.

By no means to I come from money or am stuck on myself. My wife and I donate a lot of our time to the Boy Scouts, Youth Sports, and Church. Like most people, when we do spend our hard earned money after our government and state rapes us with taxes, we like to enjoy ourselves in a clean, safe environment with our loved ones.

:snooty::snooty::snooty:

I think you will fit right in.:thumbsup2

You sound just as rude and obnoxious as the people you claim you want to avoid.
Enjoy your trip.

I just want to thank the people that have reassured me and reminded me that I shouldn’t let the distasteful acts of others discourage my family and I from having a good time.

As for those that have gotten offended by the wording of this post, I apologies,
It saddens me that some quickly judged me as being a hater. I think maybe you should reread the original post to get the full meaning of it instead of just picking out and getting offended about the wording that was used instead of the concept of the post. The Trailer Park reference was just one of the few ways it was described to me.

It wasn’t my intention of this post to become a burn post. I love WDW and just wanted to gather more information from others that have recently visited to see if this was a recent norm, or just some being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

For my comment on being over taxed I stand by it. I have no problem paying my fair share of taxes, but I do not agree on being over taxed. I know that part of that problem is the State that I live in and it probably has the most state government corruption.
I have served in our Military with a tour of Duty in Somalia. (67T UH60 10th Mountain Division) I do not see how being over taxed makes me not remember those that are serving in the Military, including my nephew who is currently serving in Afghanistan.

You're always going to have pushers and rude people, but I try to ignore it while I'm there unless it directly affects me.

Apr 6-10 I only had to say something once as we were in a 90min line for Dumbo, and as the line moved an entire family stepped in front of me and DS 2.5. I confronted the girl by saying, "oh, are you with them?" and when she said no I told her that I was. She cut in front of the people behind me then left the line 5 minutes later.

We were recently at Disney from 4/19 - 27th and I cannot think of a single incident with a rude cast member or guest - we had a great time! :thumbsup2

Your vacation will be what you make it to be. If you go looking for bad things then you will certainly find them.

Jill

I want to thank you for serving our country!

When we were there last, we did notice a little of this. Mainly with teenagers rushing and pushing their way through the holding room at Test Track. There was one night where someone from another country ran all over my DD, twice with a stroller. DH cussed at him, but other than that, not so much.

We did, however, notice a lot of people who looked unhappy, and some that were fussing with each other. I guess it could have been the heat! :rotfl2:

Oh but didnt you know?...April is "rude and obnoxious month" at Disney! lol:goodvibes

You said yourself you'd probably get some arguements with this post, so you kindsa knew what was coming to you when you wrote it.:confused3 I dont get how people can say offensive stuff and then get defensive when people take offense to their comments. Just because thats how it was "described to you" doesnt make it any less offensive when it's repeated. Its like people telling a racist joke that someone tells them....its still offensive each time its said.

People are going to be offensive where ever you go unfortunately. I dont understand the point of the original post. I can walk in the grocery store and hear bad language. Rudeness and offensive behavior is EVERYWHERE! So why do you expect it to be different at Disney? This isnt a new and shocking issue....its sad, but welcome to the world. Perhaps if we all acted a little more kind the world would be a better place.:rolleyes1

OP please, using language like "after our government and state rape us with taxes"?? I certainly hope you never have to collect unemployment, drive on expressways, benefit from medical research, get your garbage collected or send your kids to school. After all if the government didn't "rape us" (talk about offensive language) you wouldn't be enjoying any of these benefits. Oh and remember those soldiers in Iraq and around the world...I guess we don't need to have a paid military either. Offensive people can be found everywhere!

Well Said!

Perhaps people are more "stressed" with the state of the economy???
Whatever you see, I say IGNORE it, it has no impact on you unless you let it impact you! Rude people are everywhere, let it go.....
I do think however that expectations are so UP there for a disney vacation....that some people think Disney is a Utopia. Sadly it is not, just Magical :rotfl2:, seriously though, we ignore that type behavior!

:mad:To the OP, your referense to the trailer park convention and the government raping you are a good example of the type of person I would like to avoid while at Disney and any other place for that matter. The fact that you then became defensive about using such comments is incredible. :confused3 I also find it terribly sad that you mentioned church in the same post. :sad2: Unbelievable. You are the type of person I am trying to teach my children to NOT be like. I understand the concern of your post, but you did not need to word it in the way that you did.

We do find people being obnoxious and rude at Disney, but in my opinion not any more than you would run into anywhere else. We just try not to let them ruin our vacation.

OMG, Some of you are ridicules. The original poster posted a concern that he/she had and was asking others if they had any similar experiences, and then some of you are going to flame him/her for the words Trailer Trash and rape. Give me a break! :headache:

What you are missing is the original intent. I don’t hate a movie because there may be a scene in it that may offend someone. I look at it as a whole, NOT just what may offend someone and totally bash the movie for it. That goes the same for any post.

This Political Correctness and I must not offend anyone for an opinion different from mine is getting WAY out of hand.

The Poster is just looking out for what is best for his/her family. I find the personal attacks disturbing and unlike the Disboards, but then again, I’ve only been trolling them for a short time.

To the Poster,
Yes, I have seen a change in how people are getting more aggressive. Not only at Disney, but all over. I too believe that there is an over usage of the F-word and a lot of other words, and I try to keep my children away from it also. It just seems to get harder and harder as we find it in every walks of life and Medias. The one thing that did seem to bother me more this last trip to Disney is IMHO the over usage and rental of electric chairs or Scooters for those that are too lazy to walk. I’ve seen the same people walking around the resorts and stores, and then pop on them.

Good luck to you and don’t let some of the negative posts on this forum deter you from doing what you think is right for your family, and a BIG THANK YOU for serving our country.:thumbsup2

We go twice a year, and I'm happy to report that I've never experienced rude behavior at Disney!

We had it once at the airport (which we just laughed off), but never at Disney! It's the Happiest Place on Earth, and even those who are grumpy 358 days a year, are happy and pleasant when they are at Disney!

Oh yeah, except for the week of May 2nd! All the jerks will be there, so don't go that week!!! :goodvibes

What happens the week of May 2nd?

I hope you are wearing a flame-resistant suit!

I am guessing the poster means that is the week of his/her Disney vacation and is hoping that many people will refrain from going so he/she won't have big crowds/long lines! :thumbsup2

I did notice some rudeness this last trip - which was last week.......

An older couple traveling on scooters was cruising thru the Main Street Emporium - it was early in the am & pratically empty. My husband was chatting on his cell phone and pushing the baby along in his carriage. We were in total vacation mode. The lady started leaning on her horn and yelling at my husband to "get out of the way" & "get off your cell phone". Mind you there was plenty of room for her to go around him due to the store being totally empty. After my husband moved or should I say jumped out of her way - she proceeded to rant and rave as she made her way thru to the sports store. She was totally miserable. We shrugged it off - but it was bizarre behaviour. Her husband was completely embarassed as he cruised by after her...... So much for being in the Happiest Place on Earth I guess.......

Oh...duh. But seriously, on May 2nd (tomorrow) MK is open until midnight or so, and I thought that always meant something was going on!

LOL, when I read this all I could picture was my husbands ex-wife...it could have been her. :rotfl2:

Sorry, that was mean. But, seriously, sometimes crabby people crack me up because they have no idea how ridiculous they look. I always give them my best smile and tell them to have a GREAT day!

.....aggressive driving habits of people on the nation's highway system of ours?:rotfl2: & :rotfl:......??????

sorry - just had to "go there" with that comment. What you described just comes across as funny....someone "honking" their scooter horn to tell someone to "get off THEIR cell phone & get out of the way."

I once saw a mother kick her own child, who was in a stroller, in front of Crystal Palace. She then stormed off and the kid jumped up and ran after her. It sill makes me cry when I think about it.

Unfortunately, vacations sometimes brings out the worst in people.
