Increase chances of getting room requests?

Hi, all...Have a question aimed at our experienced DVC members:

Since Friday and Saturday nights cost roughly double the points that Sun thru Thursday nights cost (causing some DVC'ers to check out on Friday morning), do you think that it's possible that more rooms might be vacant or become vacant when checking in on a Friday or Saturday? If so, might this give you better odds at check-in for room location requests?

Basically yes, I think your logic is sound.

Excepting for peak times (MLK, Presidents Day, Easter, Christmas, New Years, Jersey week), when everything is booked, even cash nights, you should have a better chance getting your requests on a Friday or Saturday night, and having that carry-over into the following week.

With this Room Ready nonsense, I have had remarkable luck slipping (discretely) a $20.00 TIP* to the check-in CM, and having a room, 'Magically' appear, or being allowed to check-in later for a room meeting our requests.

If that's true (and I hope it isn't), I think by posting it here, you've pretty much insured that it won't be true for much longer. I sincerely doubt Disney Resort Management looks favorably on CMs who participate. JMHO. YMMV.

First this "room ready" is nonsense.

Regardless of WHAT they are telling us, that is NOT what they are really doing. (A BC Manager and I had it out not to long ago when at 6 PM I wanted to know why if they did "room ready" and I arrived at 10 AM there had not been ANY studios "ready" between 10 AM and 6 PM. He confessed that rooms are "preassisgned" but we will juggle. I suggested he start "juggling" and he found me a room)

I think your theory is a good one, and that checking in on Saturday may get you a better chance at most of your requests as opposed to checking in late on a Sunday. That being said, I also agree that rooms ARE pre-assigned to a degree. I know when I check in, my "non-smoking for medical reasons" is noted, and I have been told that they have my room assignment, and sometimes they will tell me the building number, but not the unit number, because that type of ressie requires that a supervisor inspect the room prior to it being released. In December, they not only told me the building number, but also the floor, so I could contact the medical supply company to bring my oxygen machine. That's when the check in person told me that medical requests like mine require the supervisor to sign off on them. I was pleased to hear that information too, and did mind at all that I had to wait for my assignment.

Is room assignment, in fact, room ready or pre-assigned? I feel like this is asking how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a Tootsie pop. The world may never know...

It is up to the front desk to decide room assigned vs room ready. I've found it both ways. It probably depends on how many rooms are open that day and which way works best. My guess is if the occupancy is not very high, they will leave rooms open. If it's full, it's probably easier for them to preassign. At BWV, I've found my room was always preassigned. At OKW, on my recent trips they were not.

That's been our recent experience. We checked into HHI on a Saturday recently. Lots of availability, very quiet. However, they even said Saturday evening that Sunday was their big check-in day. For us, we got a lovely room by checking in Saturday-had we checked in Sunday, who knows what would have been available. Using that same idea, next week I'm checking into BCV on a Monday. I'm very nervous about what type of studio may be available.

We checked into BWV on a Friday in December at 11 AM. The CM at checkin noted that we had been there recently, and seemed to indicate that she could "see" what our room assignment had been, and asked if we had liked it. We had...so she looked and was about to give us a room that was ready, however, it apparently was needed before we were going to check out, on Wednesday. She then gave us the card for us to call, because the room we were getting was not ready. It was ready by 2PM and it really was a good one for us, not far down the hall, a standard, dedicated studio.

We have checked into BWV more than any other DVC, and we've tended to get rooms either all the way down the hallway, SV side or pretty darn close to the elevators, again SV. We've been pleased with every one of them.

We have no idea of how the match up is really done, but yes, we often check in on either a Friday or a Saturday.

Simba's Mom, Thanks for sharing your experience! I think I will keep that in mind for my future trips. I definitely don't have points to burn, but, checking in on a Saturday may still be a smart use of points in any case. I guess it just depends on personal preference.

When transferring points between members, the transferred points are supposed to keep their original use year and resort. Currently the don't. Thus someone advertising, "Points expiring 1/31/2007 make an offer." Would be ideal for another Member with a December UY. They could transfer the points (for $5.00 or so) into their Dec UY. Magically the points now expire November 30, BUT CAN ALSO BE BANKED. That is the UY morph. WARNING: We expect this loophole to close any moment, if not already closed.

Also say I have a VWL contract. I could transfer someone else's SSR points into my account and VIOLA! I now have VWL points uasable for the 11 Month booking at VWL!

These loopholes are a priority now that the DVC is cracking down on commercial renterts, and some of us (Namely me) believe that is why the sudden enforcement of 1 transfer per use year, and the 'bright line testing' of # or ressies made.

Hanname was a wonderful thread, based on typing errors by the late Hurricane Patty. Try a search under the Disney Vaction Club main board to see if it is still accessable. This thread took on a life of it's own and was just a wonderful, fun, community-like experience.

I was at OKW, (Old people Keep Walking) Resort, I would expect to pay $50.00 or more at the BIG THREE (BCV, BWV or VWL)!
