Inconsiderate people vent!!

My niece (17-1/2) got a car for Christmas from her parents, (used, but in great condition) and she was at the mall the other day and someone hit her while she was parked (and shopping in the mall) and just took off!!! $1,800.00 in damage, some people are just so inconsiderate. My sister doesn't want to risk putting it through the insurance because of a previous claim, so now my DN has new wheels that she hasn't even had for a week and some bozo just ruins it all....that justs makes me mad!!

She should report it to Mall security. At most of our malls, they have outside security cameras, one of them may have caught the accident and they may be able to make out the plates. It's worth a try. She should at least report it to the mall office so they have a record of it.

Sorry to hear she got hit. At least she wasn't driving at the time...

I'm no expert, but if the car was in fact parked, putting in a claim should not impact her insurance (except for the deductible).

They tried that and the security office was very rude and uncooperative. Apparently this mall, which is pretty large, doesn't have security cameras. My sister is very angry, she is thinking of writing a letter of complaint.

Marla's Mom, My sister works in the insurance company, so she must have good reason, not sure what they are though.

The same thing happened to me 2wks after I got a car.
I was at the mall for less than 20min when someone backed into my car (I had backed into a spot) and completely crushed my hood. It cost $3000 in damages.

Someone hit my parked car while I was inside the San Diego airport. I called my insurance, and they said it would raise my rates. So I told them to forget I ever called. It's not fair at all, is it?

How frustrating and disappointing for your niece. I assume she can still drive the car, it's just dinged up now?

I hit someone once parking my truck because of ice and I broke the other car's headlight, it was at work at the employee parking lot and I did not know whose car it was, I left a note on the car I hit saying who I was asking them to call me or come and see me at work . The person got the message and came to see me at work, first to thank me for the note and then she proceeded to tell me how stupid I was for leaving a note, she would have never known who did it if I did not leave a note, I wasn't shocked either when she said she wouldn't have left a note if she was the one hitting. I hate when people hit other cars and not say anything, isn't that why people are supposed to have insurance for? It's a shame.

I certainly feel bad for your neice, Debbi.. poor kid!...

As for the coward who hit her car.. shame on them..geez louise accidents happen.. it is important to take responsibility for your mistakes... and YOU KNOW THEIR MAMA TAUGHT THEM BETTER!
