Including meals????

I made a hotel reservation for my trip in August and wondered how adding the meal plan works... Do I mention it at the time of reservation or can I think about it and decide when I check in??? This is my first time even considering the meal plan. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I believe you can only get a dining plan if you book a package with room and tickets.

I also think you must add it a certain amount of time before your trip. (Not sure when, but I don't think you can add it once you arrive. Maybe before your final payment?) If you have a package with tickets, you could think about it and decide which plan would work best for you and call to add it.

The dining plan can only be purchased as part of a pkg, you can not add it to a room only ressie. If you want to change it to a pkg , the dining plan has to be added no later than 72 hrs prior to checkin. If you go with the dining plan it is very prudent and smart to make sure you book dining reservations. Many places do not accept walk ups and if you are paying for the plan, it is disappointing to have nowhere to use your credits, and they are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Just a reminder you can add the DP without a pkg if you are a DVC member or staying on a ressie under DVC points, but the DP does also have to be added to the ressie before check-in.

The DP can be an excellent way to go, but as the OP had stated it does require a little extra planning if you are using the regular plan because the table service restaurants do have to be booked in advance. If you chose the Quick Serve DP this wouldn't be an issue.

Isn't August when the promo is for the free DP with any disney pkg? At least part of August is, possibly from the 16th on I'm thinking. Check www.allears.net to be sure.
