Incentives to tour?

I agree that perks should NOT be a reason to choose............. We didn't expect any and would never do a tour based on what we'd get free.

You don't need to take the Disney Tour. Take the other one and get your stuff. Get on the Disney Web site and look up DVC. You can order a information pack that will explain the program and give you a price. If your serious about buying into one this will give you comparison. Disney is a low presure sales while others are high presure.

You don't want to make a desision that will last you the rest of your life based on a trinket now. 10 years from now the perk will be gone but you will be stuck with your property.

There's nothing wrong with playing the giveaway game while on Vacation. My Dad Did it for several years. Tickets to shows here, Cash there. Now he owns two diffrent Timeshares. It's a game the Timeshare companys are wanting to play, but like I said- If you are Serious about buying into one this coming trip, Don't let a small giveaway make your desision For you.

We got the fast passes too. We didn't have to act apprehensive to get them; I think the girl who signed us up for the tour just liked us because we had been talking for about 20 minutes about our Disney engagement/wedding stories

I probably Didn't need to either, And me and my wife wanted to join but we were uncertain of the price. We Did look back when we first got married 10 years ago. It was out of the question then. But we were there this past year. (05). They wanted to take us on the tour but it was the last full day of the parks. The parks cost a bit and during the Day the lines would get huge. It was July 2nd. The only tour the had was in the morning and I wanted to get to the park as soon as it opened to ride a few of the more popular rides. Thats when the Fast passes was brought up. With a Van ride to the Park and Fast passes we left the park early it saved us so much time.

I bet they switch off meals with Fastpasses depending on the crowd level. Because I tell you what. Fastpasses July4th weekend are priceless. :cloud9:

Just call and get the info by mail. View everything from home. We got a great video and coffee table point book with all the info on the program. Then you'll know whether you want to spend any of your precious vacation time to take a tour of DVC. Problem solved.

It does not sound curt at all! I understand what you are saynig but I do think that they should give you something for you time. My sister who is a realtor feels the same way. She said that you should not have to do it for free. They are going to make a lot of money off us if we buy.

I, of course, would never base my decision on what "prize" I got. I am a research junkie so most likely I will spend MONTHS researching which company is best for us to go with.

Does your sister work for DVC? Does she understand that right now DVC is pretty much having absolutely no problem selling contracts? DVC just about sells itself in most cases. Frankly, the best perks I've heard of recently are fast passes or counter service vouchers. You're just not going to get theme park tickets or other "big" perks. Not from DVC (and I'm sort of glad actually). When we took the tour we got ... ice cream. But we didn't care. We loved the tour and certainly didn't have a problem "doing it for free." The tour was low stress, no pressure, and unlike other timeshares we were able to take the information home and sign up from there. It was a fun tour and our then eight year old had a nice time in the kids area too. Disney magic and all that of course. Not a bad way to spend about an hour and certainly not anything I felt I needed to be "paid for."

We went in June and took the SSR tour. We were there with my parents and sister and BIL. After the tour we all (three families) got $100 in disney vouchers to spend anywhere at WDW. We also took advantage of the free ice cream parlor (great for our kids while we were talking) and everyone got trading pins. We were not really serious about buying and did the tour because of the $$ incentive. Had we not gotten the $100.00 I can't say we would have taken the 2 hours out of our schedule. We ended up buying, although my folks and sister didn't. DVC probably thinks that that $300.00 was worth it considering they got my 25K!

Incentive are great! Its all about exposure and if giving something gets you exposure...its good for business.

Don't feel bad about asking if there is an incentive to listen. Sometimes DIS board people get a little superiority complex and act like membership sells its self. It doesn't. Go for the gift and then buy. You won't regret it.

Incentives? In 1991 we took a 'tour' for another timeshare just down west 192 for the incentives. The pressure was unbelieveable! The presentation was tacky at best. By the time we left the price was dropping as we walked away. Then at the redemption window the lady told us how to get more value for our incentives. We ended up with 2 - 1 day passes to Universal as well as $20 Disney Dollars.
A park visit and Disney money!
Needless to say we didn't buy anything that day.
The following February we took the DVC tour at Commodore House at what is now OKW. Construction all around, only a few buildings open, and we spent 5 hours there! :goodvibes (This is mainly because I talk too much.) We bought DVC right then and there. We got ice cream sundaes, our picture taken, a ton of paperwork (the normal amount of paper was doubled because we live in NY) and the blissful feeling that we had done something terrific that no one seemed to know about! :) :goodvibes
I have heard about vouchers for dinner, Fast Passes etc. but not much else.
I think that the experience of the presentation and the opportunity to be a DVC member is the best part!! ;)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Membership does sell itself in many cases though. Too many people have posted on these boards that they bought without even taking the tour. We actually took the tour AFTER we had decided to buy. The tour was neat but we knew enough about the program already to know it was for us. It's great that you got $100 but I don't think that's the experience of everyone who tours. Some get fast passes, some get meal vouchers, and some (like our family) didn't get anything. I don't feel that I missed anything out by not having an incentive. I've done other timeshare tours before - painful, high pressure. The incentives were bigger but the experience was much worse. I personally like DVC's low pressure style. And based on what I saw last week at SSR, it's working.

Wow I certainly never thought that by asking this questions I would get attacked about it. I have no idea why everyone is getting so defensive about my wanting something for my time. I guess for me, it is my first vacation in 2 1/2 years, it is my FIRST vacation without my son, a vacation to reconnect with my spouse and relax (with a 2 year old we really don't get alot of down time). So YES I feel that my time is worth something! I will only be there for 4 DAYS! Please don't judge people when they ask about incentives as everyone is different and hey, my husband is not as "sold" on this thing as I am. I need something to get him there in the first place! Sorry to sound so short by my gosh, all I did was a question and I have had several people now get somewhat rude with me about it.

But we actually didn't end up using the fast passes because we took the tour on our last day, and we just weren't up for any rides after it. It says on them they're only good for 48 hours after your tour. I hung onto them in case that wasn't really true and we could use them for a future trip. Anyone know if we'll have luck with that?

No they really expire at 72 hours after issue. I too took the tour on our last day, and 'saved' them for the next trip!

Wait a miniute. I don't think anybody here so far has gotten short yet. You asked for advice from stangers and we are giving it. Keep in mind that typing is very impersonal and you get no voice inflection or can't see a smile.

there has also been a side conversation with people talking about the perks they did or did not get.

Several including myself gave the advice to not take the Disney tour but just get the info sent to you. DVC is the only timeshare I know that will be upfront and open about their program before you even go though a sales pitch.

It is true that DVC just dosn't need to give out perks to get people to tour. especially during busy seasons. They havn't even finished building SSR and DVC at the contempory is already in the works. And Rumers of Calf. and Hawaii (see other threads)

Just a question. -- the people who got the $$$ what time a year did you tour?

Anyway. Sorry if you feel attacked.

So you're saying it didn't work?

You came here for answers. You were told that the incentives are counter service meal vouchers or fast passes or more rarely $100 in Disney dollars. If you think your time is more valuable than that then the simple advice is to pass on the tour. Go over to SSR (or any of the other resorts) and have lunch. Walk around. That'll give you somewhat of a feel for what the places are like. Have lunch at Olivia's one day and then walk around to Community Hall and the pool (at OKW). Those are easy ways to spend some time without taking a tour. You don't get to see the rooms (and they're incredible) but you can definitely get the vibe. But the simple fact is that right now the market for DVC is such that they're just not going to give you more than what people have discussed to have you tour. DVC really does sell itself for many people. BTW, if you're thinking of doing a different timeshare tour in Orlando, I would be cautious. We've done those and they can be very unpleasant experiences (and almost always take longer than the 90 minutes). It's a hard sell because many of those timeshares are much, much cheaper on the resale market (DVC maintains its value reasonably well for many reasons). So they want you to make an impulse buy. Marriot may be slightly nicer but the ones we've done were not worth the passes we received.
