Incentives Thread

Hi there, I love reading these boards as they provide a ton of valuable information but I noticed there doesn’t appear to be an incentives thread? Unless there is one. I feel like that would be a good thread to set up for prospective DVC buyers.

Ive kept track of the incentives on my own between 150-200 points for the past year but it would be interesting to have a historical look at years past as well on per point basis. I know DVCnews and Dvcfan have their own articles but you have to search for them individually and it’d be nice if you could find them all in one place.

We usually make a new one each quarter or so when new incentives come out.

Right, I’ve seen those threads and those threads usually end up with hundreds of comments as well. Itd be cool to look at historical trends though per quarter in one thread with just the data.

I don't think there is one, as it is probably too complex to do easily.

The direct incentive is not just a single number, it varies every quarter based on what property you are looking at, how many points you buy (100, 150, 200, 250, etc.), whether you are a current member or new purchaser, whether there is a welcome home incentive, d23 incentive, Disney Visa Incentive, Disney Cruise Line incentive, Magical Beginnings, member referral, whether they are having a sale on a "sold out" resort, etc.

If you have a certain time period in mind you can usually find a price to compare it to if you look hard enough.

In general, the best time to purchase direct is always going to be somewhere between yesterday and 20-ish years ago. The prices bounce around a little bit but always go up over time.

While both are a great source of other info, they never do a great job of including all the stackable incentives. Crucial details are usually missing on how to get the lowest direct prices currently going. Makes sense since they’re trying to sell resale

I agree! Which is why it would be nice to have a thread that breaks down the math with no fluff. For example this is what I have from my notes over the last year or so

Some people may not be eligible for certain incentives. MB is not available for foreigners, people who don’t have a Disney card, people may not be D23 members, some may not be on a cruise.

Are you just looking to get the best possible bottom of the barrel price? If so it may not be applicable to all

After VGF there was an OKW 2057 direct blowout where people were getting $115-$135pp, iirc and AKV and BLT had some strong incentives after that.

Another helpful bit for context is inflation. It’s been a little over 2 years since we bought VGF at $161 and in today’s dollars already the equivalent of paying over $170pp.

I try to keep this in mind when jealous of those who bought AKV for $95-99pp back in 2008. Still a fantastic deal by any measure but like paying $150pp today.

Inflation is no doubt a factor, also with the rising base prices. Took me a while to figure out that the great deal of 2023 for VGF only made sense when the starting base per point was $217 and MB was an extra $2 per point then. Other than that it seems like Poly around $180 give or take would be similar to that VGF deal at this point.

And then the RIV summer 2024 deal which was the best recent active sale besides the VGF Blowout I think where I got my 300 RIV points for $158 pp after Magical Beginnings

Ugh! Wish I started paying attention to DVC sooner. When I have looked back through articles it does appear the summer incentives are always the best for the year as well. 2023-2025 seem to follow that trend

So basically a thread like the ROFR thread, but for direct purchases, when you bought, how many points, where, and how much pp you paid, etc. could work.

Because it might be easier to just have people post theirs rather than go digging for all the info

Don’t worry, they’ll come again. So far at least that has always been the case.
