I was trying to make my first reservation today for September 2009 and have 220 points to "use or lose" and was told that because they are incentive points I could only :Cruise them, California them, RCI them or Saratoga Springs use them. Anyone else with similar story? I don't believe I was told I couldn't use them anywhere on the Disney resort not just SSR. I was certain I discussed using them anywhere. I just closed the contract and haven;t called my "agent" yet but that will be next just wanted to check. Thanks

That's correct - SSR only at WDW. I was thinking of an GCV add-on but a couple of things turned me off. 1 - I have an April use year and would not get 2009 points (June use year is first to get 2009) and 2 - the incentive points have to be used by 10/3/09 and choices are limited.

I originally had the developer points as my incentive and was told that the only resort they were good at was SSR in WDW. I ended up changing incentives April 1st since I hadn't closed the contract yet.

However, the first contracts I received that had the info on developer points stated that they were only good at SSR. It might be in part of your paperwork.

The developer points can only be used at SSR at WDW and that goes as far back as when I initially bought last June and probably further back than that and it is specified in the contract. Is it possible you got "caught up" in the excitment and don't remember that being said.

I was told during the tour that if I opted for developer points it would be for a stay at SSR.

However, to the OP, the Guides are salesmen so it would not at all surprise me if you were told something to entice you to buy that didn't end up being true. I really hate that for you, especially if you were planning on staying at another resort. Still, SSR is a beautiful resort, and you'll be at Disney, so at this point, just try and make the best of it and enjoy your wonderful vacation!! :goodvibes Do call your Guide, though, and tell him about what your understanding was about the developer points; sometimes, even after closing, they will work with you. Good luck!!

Yes, possible, but the OP has signed everything already. First page, first document, second paragraph in my paperwork..."pursuant to the Vacation Option program, DVD has agreed to provide the Purchaser with the right to make reservation(s) for accommodations ("Accommodations") at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort or at one of the following Disney Collection resort hotels located in CA, ...., or at resorts made available through the RCI Exchange Program...."

Then again, maybe I'm just a weirdo who reads everything but others don't? :confused3 I'm not perfect by any means and I don't mean to come across as high and mighty at all, but it was pretty much the first thing (before your eyes start to glaze over) in the paperwork, that I got at least.

I'm sure the OP isn't the only one who did not carefully read the purchase paperwork.

Unfortunately, even if the OP can prove the sales guide didn't tell her about the restrictions on developer point usage, the contract rules. That is especially true of real estate contracts.

OP - hope you can find a way to use the incentive points that works for you.

No, I completely am with you. It just is a huge bummer for the OP if she was told something by her Guide which didn't end up being true. And I know that the Guides have been known to stretch the true to get people to sign, especiallly when potential purchasers are buying during the tours. :sad2:

I'm sorry the OP didn't know this and I can see it would be a disappointment. My guide was very upfront with me on the use of Developer Points, both where they could be used and when. I could use them for the SSR stay, DLR stay, a cruise or RCI. It didn't bother me that I didn't get 2009 points at VGC (March use year). I chose to use my DP for 3 nights Concierge at VGC and couldn't be more pleased with that option.
Since the papers have only been signed, if this is a deal breaker, can't the OP cancel the deal before closing? (I know the VGC haven't closed yet, so don't know what resort the OP bought at to know if this would apply)

For what it's worth we were not thrilled about using our DP at SSR - especially since we bought at AKL and BLT - but it is very clear in the contract where they can be used. That being said - we ended up LOVING our SSR stay and in fact are going there again in 2 weeks and my inlaws are there right now. Give it a shot - realizing that it is a BONUS - and you will have a great time!

I'm at SSR right now using my developer/incentive points, and loving it!

My guide was very specific in mentioning where these points could be used, what date they had to be used by, and the 7 month booking window for using them.

As an attorney I should have gone right to the contract but didn't want my hopes dashed right away. Thanks all - the contract is clear SSR. Thanks! I will enjoy my time there and air fare rates are GREAT right now.

SSR is a beautiful resort. Enjoy your stay.

Well it's good to now that I'm not the only one who doesn't read every line of real estate contracts, even though I do contracts for a living! I'm more careful on behalf of my company than I am for myself! I think it's more of the "over the barrel" issue when you're dealing with DVC, or when we built a house with a big developer!

SSR is my home resort - it's really beautiful -I'm sure you will have a great vacation.
