Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

so to headphones, or not to headphones.....
Thats how I have trained...when walking...normally it takes me to get over the 2-3 mile mark, then I seem to be in "my rhythm"....however, with everything I have read it appears the excitement and needing to hear others behind you say..."on the right..." etc...I should not be wearing them.
So I am thinking at this point, at least having them around my neck, and saving them for when I really think I will need a jolt of energy from my music around miles 6-8...which according to the course map, I will personally need it!
I have had the mind set until now that I need my music to keep me going to cross the finish line, but at the same time, I dont want to block everything out and miss the experience of the race.....

From my own experience, headphones are fine, if the volume is not too loud.

I would agree. Also-- depending on your style of headphone, I just "dangle" one earbud so just one is actually in my ear. I often take my kids with me to the park where I'll run the track, and I alsways do this so I can hear what's going on around me and if one of them needs me.

Yep. If you're a good multitasker (and not to be prejudiced, but women are better at this than men), you should be able to run, listen to your music, listen for runners around you, and pay attention to the course at the same time. And the music will definitely help you keep going. I ran my first half yesterday, and just as I wanted to shoot myself in the head (around mile 11.5), "Go the Distance" came on. And I kept going :)

Congratulations to everyone who ran races this weekend!!!! Great accomplishment and i'm sure you all feel race ready for W&D for sure.

I tried to do 12 miles with my group yesterday. My plantar fasciitis acted up and I could only get to 9. I know that the smart thing to do was stop the run, but I'm really annoyed by it. On the bright side, we're all going to Disney soon!!! Can't wait for vacation!

One piece of advice... be very careful how much park touring you do on Friday and Saturday next week. I did very minimal sightseeing in Philadelphia, and my legs were still tired a bit, because it was more walking than I usually do. Take it easy in the World. Sit by the pool, or in front of the castle.

thanks for the input...I have a pair of Sennheiser PMX 680 Earbud..and it has a volume control that is handy....although now I dont think I really need the 3 hr playlist I created! lol

I haven't really even planned anything because of this. Maybe get a bunch of autographs or take the 'Behind the Seeds' tour at the Land.

Still contemplating about what to do after the 5K in the morning though. Although some have warned against it, I think my body might want to go back to bed...

We're doing the Behind the Seeds tour, too. :)

Don't take my comments wrong. I am purely in the middle on the subject. I would bring it and be ready to plug in once you make the half mile corner or as you indicate mile 6. There will be dead sections, I just find them managable.

Don't believe every study you read.....ok what was I doing?

Good thing it wasn't "Another one bites the dust".

I did sign up for the Savannah RnR half. Next November 5, 2011. Can't wait for that!

Welcome to Savannah! I'll see you there - going to try and be able to run the full by then myself!

Other than that I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this thread! I've been reading daily (not posting except to say hi obviously) and this has kept my excitement high for the race. Ran my longest run this past Saturday and ended up with an unexpected 15 miles (was only shooting for 14). Getting through that with no problems has left me very excited for my first half marathon. I hope vacation (leaving Friday!) doesn't screw it up but I think I'll manage.

See you there!

We're going to Epcot on Friday too with an afternoon break at SAB. Saturday morning, the Expo and SAB again in the afternoon. Maybe we'll see you at SAB!

I'm beginning to regret booking our flight home on the 3rd. I feel yucky today, can't imagine travelling the morning after a night Half. Should be super fun.

"Go the Distance" is one of those on my play list that helps me get through too.
