Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

My bib number is 1208!! :)

I was under the impression that bib numbers correlated to when you signed up for the race. At least that's what I thought last year at the ToT....

Haha great Im starting to think Ill be starting WAY in the back all by lonesome :rotfl:

Just ran 9 miles and have all new blisters...guess Its unavoidable! But tying my shoe differently has helped at least!!

Bib number 1977.

How very odd. My # at the DL 1/2 was 1978. Had a pretty decent day there. Hopefully this is a good karma thing and I will do a bit better 'cause of the lower #. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Did the ToT have a corralled start? Usually the numbers correlate to your corral if a race has them. If not then the numbers are usually either by registration date or alphabetically.

Apply some zinc oxide and they will be dried out in a day.

Did she enter a predicted time quicker than 2:45 and not submit a link for proof of time?

That's what happened to us. I'm 8181 and DH is 8179. We plan on finishing in under 2:10. We have never run a race, but were runners before signing up. We probably should have pushed harder to find a local race, but with 4 young kids, finding time when we can both go is difficult. We have to take a whole vacation just t get in a race!:rotfl2: Oh well, don't care what corral we start in - we're there to have fun and be together!

They sort-of did, I guess. They had sign posts with estimated pace times and you were supposed to line up under/behind that. I can say for CERTAIN that people didn't abide by these, as I had to run by MANY walkers (and it was kinda annoying when I was actually TRYING to run well ).

I'm a bit of a big race rookie so perhaps I'm not familiar with what the corralls would look like? I ran another (non-Disney) 5K race last year and they did the same thing, with the sign posts.

I don't think so. My DW and I signed up at the same time, but I am bib #595 and she is #3738. The numbers would make more sense related to corral/expected finish times.

A different question. Has anyone ever heard of putting shampoo on your feet and letting it dry before putting on socks and shoes, to act as a lubricant or blister preventer? I talked to a marathon runner who swore by it. I've heard of using vaseline or Glyde, but never shampoo.

I think we're fairly ready for the race, but now I am worrying about the weather --- can't do anything about it, but got to have something to worry about.:)

Generally, Disney will create defined corrals in the half and full distnace races in an effort to keep some order in the start. Without them you will find walkers just behind the elites and faster folks spending a lot of effort to get around them.

Awesome thanks!! :thumbsup2

What is your best guest at how many corrals and how many people per corral?? Just curious. The only large race I have ever participated in was the Ukrops Monument Ave 10k in Richmond, VA and that had I think almost 40,000 in it. I know there were at least 30 "waves" with around 1,000 people in each

Oh, and I'm assuming at this point, I just need to wait to the expo to bring proof of time?

Woo hoo! This thread has reached 100 pages! LOL!
With all the bib # excitement, it put us over:grouphug:

I am number 8035 ... I guess that is because I entered a time lower than 2:45 but I actually was wrong in calculating my time and couldnt provide a proof of time...oh well...I am super excited to be running at all :goodvibes
Ok...so is everyone/anyone wondering why the walker got a # like 6825? Does it really mean I am in the 6th corral? I signed up on 11/16..very first day..and entered a time of 3hrs..doesnt matter, I am only competing with myself and just remember to say "Hi Diana" when you pass me by:goodvibes

Just updating after getting words of encouragement.
I posted earlier how badly I was feeling after my 11.25 mile run.
Well it got worse and then thankfully better.
That night I woke up with chills and my knees hurt SO much. I was really worried.
Luckily Sunday morning I felt better. Today I feel even better. I have a few sore muscles but not too bad.

So, I believe I will survive 13. But I can't say I'm not nervous. I really want to run (a very slow 12 mph) the whole thing, that's how I've trained, no stopping no walking. So that's my goal, I just hope if there is to be pain - that I can run through it.

BTW - my bib is 4202.
I did not submit a time, but I did do a 10k on labor day with a 10:44 pace. Don't ask me how I pulled that out! Do you think that's worth bringing for a better corral time?
Thanks for giving me lots to read to pass the time and calm my nerves:)

Tammy
Glad you are doing better! You will survive 13:goodvibes

You 2 will have a great time!

Looks like the W&D start has four corrals. I would guestimate that around 2500 per corral. The instuctions do not mention waves, even though the start setup looks like it could be split into two waves of two corrals each.

Your estimated finish time sounds about what I am thinking I will do...I run/walk, so I wont be passing you :rotfl: but maybe I can find you in the crowd since we are going to end up around the same pace and Im running solo :thumbsup2 I cannot wait to leave in a week! I am really going to miss the disboards while I am away especially with it being the week leading up to the race! :scared1:

ToT had a corralled start, but I think the bib #s were related to sign -up date. The bib #s in my corral were all over the place.

Those aren't really corrals. Most corralled races have actually separated off sections where you can't walk from one to another without showing your bib with your corral (or race number) on it. What you described are not uncommon at smaller races and are more suggestions for lining up according to pace. I'm not surprised with that setup that the numbers didn't correspond to times.

I'm 5501. For the Princess this year, there were 5 corrals and each corral was a wave. I preferred that to what the January races were. I was near the front of my corral so I knew I had a good 14 minute buffer between me and the last person in the race.

Will it tell you on your bib what coral you are starting in? We're 10360 for our relay team. I can't imagine we're in the last coral since I submitted proof of time for a 10k I ran. I'm running the second leg, so I guess it doesn't matter much to me, but SIL will need to know!

Tonight I went for a nice short run. It was my first time running after dark in awhile, and I forgot how nice it is to run without the sun beating down on you! The only problem I had was when I was running into a slight breeze and my contacts kept getting dried out. I usually have sunglasses on since I run while the sun is out, and have never had that problem. I hoping it isn't too windy the night of the race since I can't think of anything that I can do to prevent my eyes from drying out. I'm blind as a bat without my contacts:lmao:

Well that's just fabulous. They put my shirt size as an XL when I requested an XS... GRRR.... I guess I'll bring my Active.com receipt with me because I do not want an XL shirt. Is there something that I can do about this prior??
