Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

My first session is this upcoming Sunday....will let you know if I get any helpful tips!

As a novice, one of my concerns is pre race prep. With the 1/2 beginning at 10 pm....what are the seasoned marathoners doing? Taking naps that evening...attending any special events at F &W...?? Loading up on carbs...(we are doing a late morning Cape May Cafe breakfast)....

Very interested to here what others do to prepare for the 1/2..:confused3
Thanks for any help:goodvibes
I would go early and try to lay out your goals and where you are heading before the session. Even a day or two early would be good. Do not expect a lot in the first session unless you have worked with the trainer in the past. The first session is more of an evaluation. The trainer looking at strengths and weknesses and you of the trainer's style.

As for race prep i think you are on board with a late breakfast - but not overly late. I would plan on a light lunch in the mix. Then not much activity during the day. You want to keep level with your hydration - even working the couple days pre-race on topping off the tanks. If really warmm - or warmer than you are accustomed to, you will not want to be real active. Otherwise, a tour of the park is not out of the question - just do not make the tour an all day tour, do not do much more than stroll and make good use of the park benches in the parks. A tour of the parks pre-race is more for your spectators...you are there to spectate their park activities.

Following - a good plan would be to have an easily digested but not overly heavy meal around 5-6 with a planned snack around 8. The snack being kind of carby the meal just light and balanced. It is my understanding from some discussion somewhere that we will more than likely be either at WWoS or boarding busses to WWoS between 7 and 8 so the snack should be portable.

I was planning on bring some DISigned name tag blanks to the Boma meet. I can make extras and bring them to the AKL photo meet as well as ADP's meet at Tambu if it's helpful.

Mrs. D, can you direct me to the thread for the ADR @ Boma or just add me to the list?

My tried & true piece of pre- race advice-- a massage!! I've gotten one several hours before each long race & it's made an amazing difference!

Hi everyone!

I haven't been following the whole thread but I just skimmed the last couple pages of posts. I saw someone mention a camera and it got me thinking... at all the Disney halves I've done before I've carried a camera. But since this one is at night... do you think the course will be lit up enough that it's worth the effort to carry a camera for photos? Anyone have experience from doing the ToT 13k?

Thanks!

While it won't be like daylight I think it will be enough light for pictures to come out, especially with a flash. I'm sure there will dark spots but I have a feeling there will be lighting brought in for areas on the course.

I just checked and the new moon is going to be 10/7 so on 10/3 the sky will be a bit darker then it would be with a brighter moon.

I did the ToT13k in 2008. There was sporadic lighting. When we went "off road" they had lights set up for us. The lights on the roads and parking lots were good enough for pics. Below is a pic of me in the parking lot pre-race. Obviously you can see me thanks to the flash, but you can also see a decent amount of the background. I didn't take any pics on the course, but there were spots from time to time that allowed for adequate picture taking. Hope this helps!

I'm bringing my camera regardless. If only it means I take pictures at the mile markers or whatever.

I have a camera on my iPhone, but only for pre- and post-race pictures. I don’t anticipate taking it our during the race at all. It takes up way too much time, and the clock’ll be ticking!

I carried a camera with me on the last ToT. Pre-race pictures in the lot and corral came out great, on the course I guess they would have come out good if I had actually stopped to take a picture instead of doing it while in motion. All the shots of the mile markers are out of focus red lines! The shots after the race are good, so the lesson is if you want to take a picture, stop. I also felt it was uncomfortable either with the camera in my pocket or in my hand, I wound up carrying it most of the way as I couldn't stand the camera bouncing around in my pocket. So all other races have been camera free. For the half I packed it in my drop-off bag and will probably do that again.

They should be lit. Make sure to stop for a second to assure you are not in motion. Betting the mile markers are a little special for the event.

Very excited. Ran a local 10K today and honestly it wasn't my best run, I did struggle a little bit. HOWEVER, I had a great time. My goal was 1:06:00 and I did it in 1:09:09 :) There were a couple of very long, steep hills, I was quite warm and did get winded rather quickly today but overall I beat my 10K time from RFTT last year by 15 minutes. So I can't be too disappointed in that.

It was a santioned event so I'm going to use it for my corral placement :) Got a medal and all is good!

Congrats! That is a fantastic way to go into the last month of training!

Super job. Long hills are the worst. :)

Should get you into the 2:30 equivalent corral. Sounds like a fun 10k.

Great job! I wish there were some 10K's around my area before the race! Lots of 5K's (which won't help for corral placement) but no 10K's. Guess that distance isn't so popular around here! I need one, though!

We got new shoes yesterday and, against popular advice, went ahead and wore them for our 8 mile run. It went awesome! I can't believe the race is getting so close. I am so excited!

Whenever I call the number listed on the 1/2 marathon website I get zero help with the questions I have, I really hate feeling unprepared but I guess I am just going to have to wing it when I get down there and hope for the best :rolleyes1

I made a shirt to wear for the race today...I was laughing so hard at the idea of being a "turtle" so I made a shirt that has a turtle on it and wrote "slow & steady finishes the race" I will take a picture and share it with you guys so you can see it and maybe recognize me at the race hopefully :thumbsup2
