Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I live in Charleston, SC and I work as the captain of a charter boat here in our harbor and everyday I get the question "What happens if it rains?" from all my passengers!!!

but here I go...What happens if it rains?

I think as long as it's not thunderstorming, we run.

I ran the Exp Ev Challenge last year, and about halfway in the skies opened up. I mean big time. Someone left the shower running (my little nod to the Tiki Room Under Old Management). It wasn't very pleasant, especially when it came to the 2 foot unavoidable puddle towards the end of the run, and the "crawling on the ground" portion of the obstacle course. :thumbsup2

But they never stopped it for a second. We were told though that if there was lightning reported within a certain amount of miles of us, that they'd call the race. And of course, no refund!

Yep. It wouldn't be my first race in the rain and it probably won't be my last. Unless the weather is sever, like for the Nashville marathon this year, it won't get the race canceled.

I guess that's the one worry about planning during hurricane season. Although, if there's a hurricane, chances are I'm not flying to Orlando, anyhow.

YUP, remember that :rotfl:

I was lucky and in Wave 1 so I was in the scavenger hunt when it started, I was really getting wet just after I got my picture with the medal at the end.

I headed back to the resort as people were starting the scavenger hunt. I thought they did call it towards the end though :confused3

Hi Everyone!

Lots going on this thread lately! Saw the medal and thought it was appropriate for the race with Spaceship Earth. However, I wish Mickey was on it somewhere!!! :sad1:

I had a slight setback in my training as I was in a car accident last week. Someone in a pickup with a flatbed on it backed out into the highway in front of me. I clipped the back of his flatbed and the impact threw me across the road and down an embankment and into a tree. Thankfully, my car landed on a big culvert or I would have rolled into the creek. Once I got out of my car and climbed up the bank from the creek, the guy in the truck drove off. :confused3 The highway patrol found the truck the next day but the owners are denying that they were driving. Oh well, I am just thankful to be alive although I was upset that my running had to be put on hold for a few days.

I had to have stitches in my big toe and my rib cage is still sore when I take a deep breath...makes running tough... Also, I guess I inhaled a lot of the dust or whatever it is from the airbags and I've had some congestion and laryngitis. Hate not being able to talk almost as much as I hate not being able to run. :)

Anyway, I've ran the last couple of days. Yesterday, not such a good run but today was better! Hope to do 8 miles on Friday for my long run for the week. I always do a run/walk anyway but hope I don't have to walk more than usual. Wish me luck!!!!!

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but, has anyone noticed Disney opened up a wait list for the W&D half? It's on a first come, first served basis. This should be interesting!

OK...my two big questions are...

1.) Where and what are you planning on eating the afternoon/night before the race?

2.) If you are driving, what time do you plan on leaving for the race and what is the time you are going to be there beforehand?

I'm starting to panic a little. I am flying in that day and flying home the next day....starting to regret that decision, but it is the only way I can run this one... :scared:

Greetings everyone. This is my first Disney race (well technically, I'm doing the 5K the morning of, in the MK, but this is my first Disney half marathon :) )

I'm very excited for this, as the last half I did had only 700 people. There is absolutely no greater feeling than being surrounded by other runners from start to finish.

This is a good question... I'm used to carb loading 12 hours before the race, which is usually the night before. With it starting at 2230 I was thinking about having a massive breakfast somewhere, and then maybe something lighter around 1800 or 1900 to keep my energy up. My 24 year old sister is running this race for the first time, so she's looking up to me with my massive 6 half marathons to guide her, lol

I was thinking about getting there around 2100 at the latest most likely sooner. With all the people, you won't get bored if you're early.

I love that you're flying in and out the next day... I did that in Chicago and Philadelphia... Quickie half marathons are so much fun :)

The evening before the race I'm eating at Boma (Dis Meet - all are welcome).

The afternoon of the race we've got ADR for LeCellier. Then for dinner before the race I plan to eat a CS meal, maybe a wrap or some type of sandwich - nothing too heavy but enough to fill me.

As far as time for getting to start - I haven't the foggiest!! I assume we'll get more info closer to race day or at least at packet pick up.

I just went onto the website, and saw that the wait list opened up. I signed up, and then came over here to post that it was open.

Congrats for seeing it first! (It wasn't open this morning.)

Sorry to hear about the wreck. Make sure you take time to heal...

Look at the very top of the medal for a mickey.

Hey Denny....how ya been?

Interesting about the wait list.......I remember Disney coming up with additional spots after a race has been closed but I don't remember them maintaining a wait list of any sort. I wonder if that will be a standard procedure from now on.

As for eating before, we are having a late lunch/early dinner at Yak N Yeti. I think our ressie is for around 4pm. The evening prior we will be at Ohana.
