Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I called this morning to get a quote on a 4 day park hopper. The first lady i talked to said it was 199 pp including tax. So i check the price online to compare. I couldnt belive it the price online was 277pp without tax. So i called back yep she was right. I now have 2 passes on the way to the house. If anyone needs passes in your group i would definitely get them thru Wide World of Sports. I now have more money to spend on my trip.

That is a great savings. Can these be upgraded to, say, a 10 day hopper? Or are they locked into a 4 day?

You can pick the number of days you want. I know when i bought them before from disney sports we had 7 day park hoppers.

OK, at the risk of being flamed, am I the only one who thinks the medal looks stupid? This may be the only Disney race medal that I truly don't like.

Yes, the passes are a great deal. I called and bought mine earlier this week. We got the 4-day ones for $199, but the CM said you could but them up to 7 days. They expire 14 days after the first use so you pretty much should buy only what you will use this trip. I think the 5-day one was $227, but we most likely won't visit the parks on the day we leave, so I stuck with the 4-day passes. We're having ours held at the resort, so we don't forget to bring them.

 Me! Me!

No flames here. When I first saw the medal, I was a little disappointed. However, sometimes the medals look better in real life than they do in a picture so I will reserve my judgement for now. Maybe the lanyard will help spice it up. I guess we've become so used to some pretty cool medals from Disney and this one, to me, just doesn't seem up to par with some of the others.

On another note, Jeanne - are both you and John doing the shorter leg of the race? I hope so. This may be my only chance to get to say hello to you guys! :teeth:

Yes, Susie, as the officially 2 slowest of the group, both John and I are doing the shorter legs. He is paired with our daughter, Jenni who is a sub-4hr. marathoner and I have our son Jason, who is not as fast as Jenni, but no slouch either. Are you and Steve doing the relay or straight half-marathon? It will be sooooo good to see you. I've been so out of the loop this year. It doesn't look like I'll be able to make the Boma meet either since it conflicts with our Ohana dinner ressie. :headache:

Jeanneg - We will be at Ohana that night too at 8:55. I'm hoping we might get to see Hallowishes while we eat.

Oh, you should definitely be able to catch the fireworks during dinner. Unfortunately, I think we will be long gone by then.

LOVE the medal (Epcot is my favorite park so I love that it looks like Spaceship Earth). Though, I'm not crazy about the charms.

I agree. Epcot is also my favorite park, so to me the medal looks great. I guess I'll wait and see if those charms look better in person.

What escape said! lol

Thanks to my schedule I have only trained a little bit up until this point. I am going to have more time starting this week. I know I could just Google this, but I thought I'd ask if anybody here knew of any good 8 week training regimens? I don't need to finish first. I just don't want to finish last. :p

I love Epcot but don't know about the medal. If it is a nice thick medal like the RnR medals it could be nice but it does look a little underwhelming.

The course is pretty much what I figured it would be. I have never run though AK or DHS since I have only does the WDW half so I am looking forward to that. There really aren't any hills, just mild inclines so I am not sure if they will bother with the elevation. Even the overpass going into Epcot isn't that steep or long.

I am a bit disappointed that the course won't go around the World Showcase.

Jeanne - Steve isn't going to be on this trip. He can only take so much of Disney within a year's time. We did Race for the Taste last Oct, marathon weekend this past January and will do DL in Sept. I guess he's reached his limit. Ha! My friend, Cindy, from Dallas will be with me. It's going to be a girl's weekend! :teeth:

I plan on wearing my Nathan Speed 2 hydration pack to the half.

My post is like one giant "ME TOO!"

I love the medal, because I love Epcot. And I'm planning to wear my hydration pack to the race as well. I ran a 10 miler a few years back where the water stops weren't great, and since then, I'm completely paranoid about not having water when I want/need it, so I always carry my own. It's not enough to get me through the entire 13.1 miles, but enough that I don't have to hit every water stop and can fuel as I please.

I printed out the map this morning and hung it up in my cubicle. I now have the DL Half and the W&D half maps up along with my sticker that says "Running is a mental sport and we are all insane." My coworkers tend to agree with that.

I take a mini weekend vacation and came back to my email!! So excited to finally see the medal and course map (though I also like to be suprised about the course as well) ..... and I cant get the email to open up fully with pictures I am bummed!!!

:scared1: WOW! I go on vacation for 2 weeks and come home to lots of announcements :scared1:

Personally, I love the medal. I participated in 2 RFTT events and those medals are very similar, so I appreciate the change. Because Epcot and the F&WF are my favorite :lovestruc I think the medal is a win win!

I wasn't keeping track of the race capacity, but I'm thrilled it's full. Hopefully, this will put the event on the schedule next year too. As for those who didn't register in time, I took advantage of Anthony Travel a few years ago when the Disney Half was full. It worked out well for me and the group I traveled with. Hopefully, Disney has 'outsourced' some registration slots for this race.

Back to the training grindstone ...

Back to the training grindstone ...

The first thing I thought when the race filled was Anthony Travel but their site doesn't have the event on it. I sent them an email just to be sure and will let everyone know their answer. I used them in 2008 when I decided after the half was full that I wanted to run it and had a good experience. At that time Disney wasn't doing any race travel themselves (or if they did it wasn't as promoted) so maybe they stopped giving the races to 3rd parties when they decided to do the travel themselves.

ETA: Anthony Travel is not a travel provider for the W&D. They aren't even doing WDW marathon weekend any longer so I guess they are out.

My training is going slow :( I should have been able to run a full 10K by the end of next week, (6 week program), instead I will only be on week 3. Oh well that means I should run the full 10K at the end of August and that still gives me a month to gain more milage.

I am running about an 11 min mile though so I figure at worst, I can run the first 6 miles in 1:06 which will give me a 30 minute cushion and if by some chance I have to walk the remainder I should be fine.

I'm pretty sure it will be a dreadmill thing tonight as it is quite muggy out...

I live in Charleston, SC and I work as the captain of a charter boat here in our harbor and everyday I get the question "What happens if it rains?" from all my passengers!!!

but here I go...What happens if it rains?
