Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Thanks for the advise Frank! I haven't run any evening 5Ks but will be on the look out now.

If the race is at 10pm, what time do you think pick up will be from the hotels to head to the starting area? This will be my first big, non-local race so I'm a little clueless.

I'm really not sure. As the time gets closer we should get more information. I think they will finalize the course before they determine the busing so they can coordinate it with any road closures.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure I'll be well informed if I just hang around this thread!

Thanks for the replies. I think that my biggest concern is the intangibles; I just feel different in the morning than at night, sort of like a biorythm thing. It's just the difference between sleeping for 7-8 hours and then getting up and running a couple hours later versus being up all day and then running around when I would normally be headed to bed. I normally run at noon, so I can't say that my routine cuts either way.

I think we will probably mostly just relax around the pool Saturday -- we might do MNSSHP on Friday night if they have it, but we'll see.

After hours party, they were supposed to have something about this originally on Feb 1, and then it was moved to March 1, still nothing. I called and am hoping for a return phone call, if anyone knows anything please post. This is important to us since my wife is not running and going to meet me at the finish line, would love to know how much this is going to cost, and a few more details.

I will post if I find anything out.

Tom

My DH and I are officially registered and made our reservation at the Beach Club Villas...that was the easy part :thumbsup2

Now comes the training.

It'll be our first Disney race (and hopefully not our last!)

One question I have, if I was to get the discounted park tickets from Disney, could I get the no expiration option added once at the parks or are their restrictions becaused they are specially priced tickets?

Just saw in your siggie that you're running the Creeper this year! Have a great time it's an amazing race! It's been awhile since I ran it but it was a fun race for me and gorgeous scenery!

Thanks, MagicMomentsMom! I signed up for the Creeper in February of last year. (Yep, more than a year before the race!) Since the Goofy, my training has been pretty sporatic. And money seems even more scarce than miles! :) I know they have a waiting list, so I should give up my spot, but I keep thinking maybe I can pull this one out of the bag somehow.

I have signed up for the Wine and Dine too. I can't wait.

For those worried about it being a night race: I was worried about the same thing the first time I did the Tower of Terror 13K. You will be fine. You will be so excited and fired up come time for the race. Pay attention to when you eat and how much you do that day, but otherwise there is not much to worry about.

I have not signed up yey as I have other races to pay for first, but I will be there as Monkey Electric are sponsoring me to use there lights in this race.:cool1:

I haven't signed up yet. I'll probably get the money together by summer.

I haven't signed up yet either, but a question about that... I'm a little nervous that everyone is waiting till about the same time to sign up and then it will fill up fast. That won't happen, right? I just want to wait till after the Broad Street Run to sign up so I can submit my time. It's about 8 weeks out right now.
Anyway, I guess I should just worry about staying healthy. I tweaked my hips shoveling out after the last big storm here in the northeast and they've really been bothering me. Sometimes when I'm just walking, I notice that I have to work a little bit to just raise my right foot off the ground to take a step. Getting pretty frustrated since it's been over a week now and I really backed off the mileage to let my body heal and it just isn't happening. I've only run 2x this whole week which is a lot less than I had been doing. Just hoping it goes away soon!
Good luck on your training everyone, and see you in just under 7 months!
Carolyn

Don't worry you have lots of time, I know from an insider that the WDW marathon did not offically fill this year, Disney closed it.
So I really do not think that this race will close very quickly.

After doing the Royal Family 5K this weekend we are pretty sure we are going to do the Halloween 5K. We did book a bounceback offer but in an effort to try and save money I was considering switching from POFQ to Pop. Since Pop is not an official hotel, could we drive from Pop to POFQ and get on the race bus there?

You can do that, thats what I was going to do since I stayed at pop or the princess this past weekend... I ended up just getting up and driving with my boyfriend.... Then my family got sick saturday, so my mom jost rode the normal bus to epcot to see the finish...

I haven't run much since high school, 14 years ago, but I am really thinking about doing the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. I had already decided to the Princess half marathon in 2011, but would like to go down for a solo trip and this would be a great first race.

Has anyone that has registered have you bought park tickets yet? Are they discounted the same as they were for the Princess?

Just checked the website and they have posted discounts on rooms but when I called they said these rates were per person not per night. I dont believe they were posted this way for the princess weekend.

The following host resorts are currently available for the weekend at special rates and include transportation to all race weekend activities:

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort - rates starting at $52.07*
Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort - rates starting at $73.25*
Disney's Beach Club Resort - rates starting at $174.50*
Disney's Polynesian Resort - rates starting at $186.88*
*All rates are per person per night and based on double occupancy. The number of rooms at these prices are limited. Rates listed are for standard room types. Other room types are available at varying rates. No other discounts apply. Room accommodations and rates are subject to change without notice.

Haven't bought park tickets yet...I compared prices and they are discounted.

I was wondering if you could add a no expiration option to these tickets or if that is prohibited because they are special event tickets.

Could someone pls post the discounted ticket prices. Perhaps a 4 or 5 day base ticket. I'm not registered for the race yet (still saving my pennies for the whole thing) but would love to be able to compare my various options.

TIA! :wizard:

I had asked that for Tower of Terror 13k, and they said they could not be upgraded to no expiration. Also they could not be used to apply towards purchase of an annual pass. Both were "no's" because they are specially discounted tickets. You may be able to get lucky and get someone to stretch the rules, but that's what I was told when I tried in the past!

Also, I signed up for this (as the relay option with my husband!) today! I'm so excited! We were already booked for a trip with my family staying at Coronado Springs for the week leading up to this, so now I have to figure out if I can convince them to switch resorts...
