Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Also, be careful with the "race discount" rooms for this - it doesn't appear that they're actually discounted!!!
The rate listed on the website is per person, as previously mentioned, but the fine print says that the rate is based on double occupancy. When you take the rate listed and multiply it by 2, it effectively works out to be rack rate! [it depends on the dates you use - they're the rack rates for value season, and it changes to regular season on October 1st, so *maybe* they're saying you're getting the value season rates on regular season dates if you're starting your trip on October 1st. Then again, the site also says rates "starting at" ... which means, it could be more expensive.]

Anyways, just do your research before booking these rates and assuming you're getting the types of race discounts that existed in the past!!

Yeah, I didn't catch that at first either. I am sharing a room with someone who is already booked at POP and the rate ended up being the same as the rate they got through Dreams Unlimited. That may not be the case at the rooms above the value but it was the case when comparing the *** rate to POP.

I played around with the numbers, and with AsSp it was actually cheaper to book using the AAA rate. I found the rest of them to be about the same as the AAA rates. No real big savings. I really would like to be able to stay deluxe this trip, since I'm celebrating my 40th birthday by running this race. I was hoping for a slightly better discount. Looks like I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a good AP rate.

Could someone pls post the discounted ticket prices. Perhaps a 4 or 5 day base ticket. I'm not registered for the race yet (still saving my pennies for the whole thing) but would love to be able to compare my various options.

TIA! :wizard:

4 day base ticket is 171.83
5 day base ticket is 199.06

4 day parkhopper is 186.85
5 day parkhopper is 214.09

4 day parkhopper plus water parks fun & more is 201.87
5 day parkhopper plus water parks fun & more is 229.10

Thanks so much! I looks like it's still going to be better to upgrade my GAD ticket. But this might be an option for my Mom (since she didn't get registered before GAD closed).

I am brand new to these boards so am trying to become familiar with the terms and all. But, I am planning on doing the Wine and Dine Half. It will be my first and very excited by it all. Does anyone know the percentage full yet for the marathon? I am unable to access the website from my computer. Also, my brother booked a room this morning and got a discount since he is participating in the marathon. He booked POFQ and it was $130. That is a lot cheaper than what it shows for that particular date online.

I was so excited to see the room rates too yesterday until I called (that was a different nightmare; took 4 tries) and she quoted me a price of $360/night for Poly. (And actually, she couldn't even quote a per night rate b/c it was considered a "package" even though I was doing room only, so I did the math real quick.)

Anyway, only then did I notice the fine print. Lovely. I suppose that is slightly cheaper than the $372/night the website says but whoo-hoo. :sad2:

I, too, will be waiting to see if they keep extending the great discounts 'til October. If not, we'll shoot for POFQ.

Last time I was on, they had not put up any percentages. I would imagine they don't do it until it's more than half full?

I plan on registering and getting my vacation booked in a couple of weeks. This is sort of nerve wracking for me b/c I have in the past always waited to book in August for October dates, and got great deals from orbitz AND stayed in my fav off site hotel for 56 a night. Best Western Lakeside has many many fond memories of family vacations over the years, and I plan on going there again in October.

But I need to do this to get more motivated, as it is I haven't really gotten sparked yet.

The way they have those rates posted is so misleading. I called today to see what the AAA rates would be, because those other rates weren't particularly great. Turns out I had a pin code attached to my name. I booked the Beach Club with what I think was about a 35% discount.

Now that is great! Maybe I'll give that a shot myself until they release the discount deals for October. Can't hurt to try!

It's worth a try. I've done it before and never had any kind of code. It would have been nice if they had let me know I had a code. Really, if you want me to come, let me know about the discount code!

Hi Everyone -

I am doing this!! I just did the Princess 1/2 and had a blast, I am only 7 months post op from cervical spine surgery so my time of 2:46:26 is not what I would have liked ..................... SO I will train harder and get the time I know I can run :)

I am doing the Philadelphia Broad Street Run, to get a better corral time too. So once I do this 10 mile run on 5/2 I will sign up :)

Plus if I can hold onto my money for a bit longer that is always a great thing. I may do it earlier or later, depending on when the race starts to fill up!!

I have to admit that the EXPO for the Princess was wonderful!! Amazing, Amazing things :)

Hi swim-mom! I'm doing the Broad Street run too! (did I say that on this thread already?) I'm excited to do it because I tend to burn out after mile 10, so I can't wait to see what I can do when the finish line is at mile 10 instead of mile 13.1.

I am thrilled it is a 10 miler, I hit the wall at mile 10 at the Princess - my Trap muscles became very tight but that was due to my surgery being only 7 months post op. So I am looking forward to just 10!!! :worship:

I am going to start training again, tomorrow :) I took off a couple of days, since the 1/2 just to give myself some time to relax a bit.

Thank god its down hill too!!! (just push me if you see that I am too slow, LOL - this way I will make it to the finish line):laughing:

I find it funny because I know it is down hill, but when I look at Broad Street I don't think of down hill. I do a lot of training in Valley Forge. THAT is down hill (and up hill, but I block that part out).

Anyone know the date you have to register by to have your name on your bib? I don't see it listed on the website but I might have just missed it. I thought it was sometime in August???

That's what I recall reading before the site switched to its current format.

After a little digging:

Personalized Bib (must register by August 2, 2010 for name to appear on bib)

I hope they spell my name right... I want to keep the bib
