We were talking about how cool it would be to try and do the Inaugral Cruise on one of the new ships.
Did anyone make the Inaugral Sailing of the Magic or Wonder ?

There are cruisers on these boards who did and i presume you would have to fax inventory control at DCL to request, but maybe they will not accept this far out.

I presonally wouldnt wish to, yes it would be magical to be first, but often shrip need time to settle down, the ship itself might have problems, the staff, new to it and need time to get organised, prices will be high, and I would go for the old ships, hopfully new ports, and let them 'bed in' first.

Have you seen the issues with QE2 etc?

We were on the inaugural sailing of the Magic.

The way we got it.....I wrote to Disney when I heard a rumor that they were building ships...this was like 4 years before the sailing. They wrote back and said to have my TA contact them (and gave a number). The deal was that you paid $250 (or maybe $200) per person to be entered into a lottery. The lottery would guarantee you a sailing during the first season and would give you a chance at the inaugural sailing. If you didn't like the date you got, your money would be refunded. The money had to be in a year or so before the sailing.

Ultimately, I was notified that I was assigned cabin whatever on the inaugural sailing on March 13....and needed to advise which hotel I wanted for my pre-sailing days--Poly or Contemporary. Then there was the call that the ship wasn't going to be ready and the cruise was moved to April 30 with a sweet price reduction for our trouble. We had the choice of accepting the new date or getting a full refund. And then there was the call that the ship still wasn't ready and the new date was July 31--same options.

SO....if you want a chance at the inaugural sailing of the new ships, I'd contact DCL and ask what the procedure is.

We were also on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic....as posted above we had to put down $250 pp deposit but didn't even know when the sail date was or what the itinerary would be or if we would be picked for the lottery!!! This was years before the actual sail date....not sure how they would do it this time around.

It was our first cruise ever and even though there were some problems on that first sailing we still loved it and have been sailing DCL since.....up to 16 DCL cruises now!!! Now 17 is planned for Oct '08!!!

We did fax IC when the new ships were announced. They will not accept requests until the new ship's itineraries are determined - which is several years out, the ships are effectively still in the design phase, their keels have not been laid.

I faxed in a request to get on one of the inaugural sailings as well. Here is the response I got:

Thank you for your interest in sailing with Disney Cruise Line.

At this time, we are not accepting future cruise requests for sailings on our new ships planned for delivery in 2011 and 2012. Enclosed is your original correspondence.

We appreciate your understanding. Please visit our website at www.disneycruise.com in the future for updates on our new cruise ships and information on when reservation bookings will begin.

Again, thank you for your interest in sailing with us.

Hope this helps you out

I wanna be on 2011 & 2012 !!!! or whenever they are Ready !!

:dance3:

for those who did get in on the first sailing, was it more expensive than say if you had waited a couple months? would it be heaps more?popcorn::

I totally think it would be fun to go on the inaugural of one of them... we'll be keeping our eye out on the DIS to see when it's time to fax in those requests.... I know someone here will give us all the heads up! :)

Can you imagine all the lime green mickeyheads on board? :)

'First Timers' are a fun couple who have been on every, single Disney Cruise Line 'first.' That means inaugaural sailings as well as new itineraries. We were on the first Panama Canal crossing with them, as well as the first 11 night on the Wonder last year.

I'm sure they'll be onboard the new ships for their first sailing.

FirstTimers are fun to cruise with and I hope that we can cruise with them on the inaugaural sailing. We, too, were on the PC cruise but didn't know them at the time. Sailed with them on the 10 day Wonder.
