Inappropriate topic 420?

I just wonder how people get it there. I know if I was flying NO WAY would I try to put any in my luggage these days. :smokin:

Come now, you can't really think that black and white, can you? Laws would never be overturned, we'd be at the mercy of a small group of decision makers. Works in a totalitarian society, but here? Clearly, you must believe that some illegal activities are improperly so. And, in that case, actually appropriate - just not legal at the moment. Prohibition is the first to come to mind.
And, didn't anyone ever study those weird laws on the books that were never changed?

If you were there in the 80's it might have been my brother. He grew a small pot plant and smoked it. My mom found it. I don't think I was home, but I think that was the same earth quake I felt in Michigan ;)

Some of the families may have children that are the ones smoking it....teenagers that is.

Someone in a room next to (or near) us at Pop smoked pot a few times during our trip last December. The smell was overwhelming and we definitely did not appreciate it.

Tacky.

We called the front desk and they said there was nothing they could do.

i have never seen that. people do smoke home made cigs that may look like pot and some times a bad cig smells like pot. I smoke and it is true. also cloves have a diff smell and look diff too. i have been to every smoke break stops at dw and never ever seen it but i well watch when i am down there this month and report back

I've never seen it or smelled it.

Never seen it or smelled it ,but if I did I would not be a very happy camper.

Yes, by the bathrooms at the American pavillion in Epcot! Several folks and it was pretty obvious.

Add me to the "been there, smelled that" club...

I watched a guy and girl spark up on It's a Small World! I also smelled it when we were on Pirates...

Why rain on someone's parade?
because if I am in Disney and smelling it then that means my children are breathing it too. Who knows what the exact second hand effects are but when it comes to my children I don't need exact facts to know I don't want them subjected to breathing in smoke of an illegal substance in a public place.

I knew it! Something had to be in the air to make everyone so HAPPY :rotfl2:

I'd probably just say "smells like something is burning doesn't it?" and go on.

So - what's your answer?
"I don't know". I mean, there could be other things that resemble the aroma of burning marijuana, so I couldn't be absolutely sure that's what I was smelling.

The second-hand effects are not significantly different from the effects of slightly more second-hand cigarette smoke, and children regularly encounter much more than "slightly more" second-hand cigarette smoke, during visits to WDW.

I would be more concerned about children being exposed to the illegality than to the smoke itself.

Smoking pot in public is obnoxious and inappropriate (and, yes, currently illegal). I frankly don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes (a hotel room isn't a home) provided there aren't children involved and I don't have to pay for their medical life-support with my tax dollars.

My kids aren't regularly exposed to smoking and smokers (of any sort), so if we were outdoors we would probably just tell our odor-sensitive daughter that someone was smoking and try to move away from the problem. However, if my accommodations were affected in some way and the hotel staff was unresponsive I would definitely tell the CMs I was calling the police. Maybe that would get some action. Smoke is an asthma trigger for me and I do my best to avoid it. I don't need my vacation ruined because of the bad behavior of others.

And, no I have never become intoxicated and driven a car. That is how a lot of "nice" people kill a lot of other nice people.

I suspect the hotel would call the police for you, but only if you wanted them to. Since you witnessed the violation, the police would need to question you, and many guests just don't want to get involved in something like that while on vacation. I'd consider what you call their "unresponsiveness" as courtesy to you, as a guest.

I totall understand wanting to avoid inconveniencing a guest. I wouldn't want to take time from my family and deal with a stressful and potentially confrontational situation either. If the problem was momentary I likely wouldn't pursue it, which is why I would probably walk on by if it were outdoors. But, if the problem were ongoing and not able to be resolve without calling the police, I have no qualms answering questions and becoming "involved".

I have never witnessed pot smoking at Disney or any of their parks, but I have seen it at other parks we have been to. I have also see it while camping at various places around my state. It is not something that personally offends me but it does show lack of respect for others with small children. You would think that these people would have enough common courtesy to do their thing before they get to the park or return to their car or something like that. I know in many different areas smoking anything in public(cigarettes, pipes, cigars) is not allowed. So until Disney goes totally smoke free, I don't believe it can be stopped. Perhaps the people that need their pot whether for medicinal purposes or for recreation, could take up baking and keep it in the brownies. This would stop the smell, increase the respect level for those around you, and who would ever know besides the happy people enjoying their brownies? pirate:

Shades of grey apply to matters of opinion, like moral and ethical decisions: Reproductive choice, for eample. The law, however, is black-and-white.

While you make some good points, Bicker, this is not one of them...If laws were black and white there would be no need for courts, lawyers, etc...When you are considering the human factor there are always too many variables to make things absolute. Everyone in the "legal" professions from police officers to judges are taught to recognize the letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law. Every case is unique, with a unique set of factors.

Oh yeah, and back on topic...I have personally never smelled it at WDW and it is not my preference...but I have seen some pretty drunk people...Perhaps my own self :rolleyes1 (Glass houses....)
