This will be our first trip with a child. DD will be about 1 1/2 when we go. I haven't been to Yachtman's but I know it's nice. Would it be inappropriate to take our DD? If she's in a bad mood or loud, we would walk around with her. She's generally happy when she has food in front of her and has not been a problem at restaurants here at home. But, I don't want us to stand out as "the couple with the kid" or ruin anyone's experience. Thanks in advance!

Anywhere @ Disney, it is appropriate for a toddler. Having said that, you know your own child better than anyone -- are you goign to enjoy your meal if he/she becomes overtired and cranky.

My advice - make the ADR, and cancel at the last moment if you feel it won't work (ie if he/she/you didn't have a nap, or is overly cranky). However, if your toddler falls asleep, bring the stroller to your table, and have them sleep during your meal.

No. Not at all. Take her and don't think twice. Nobody should mind a kid. If she starts screaming or something just step out and calm her down. No biggie.

Definitely take her and have a good time! We ate at California Grill with DD when she was 14 months old and there were many other little kids there. To me, this is one of the benefits of Disney...being able to eat at a restaurant without having to over worry about your child's behavior. If you are still concerned, maybe make an earlier reservation.

Thanks y'all. I guess it is Disneyworld, after all. If kids aren't welcome there, where would they be? :)

The only places it would be inappropriate to bring a toddler would be those restaurants that don't have child menus, and there are only two of those as far as I know: V&As and Bistro de Paris.

I say -- you're in Disney and it is appropriate to take your daughter anywhere. The only exception to that would be V&A, IMO. ENjoy! And if she gets upset do what you already said and walk around. They ahve a nice gift shop in the resort you can walk her through. THat's what we did when we went to YCG and AMelia got upset. We took turns walking aroudn with her.

ENJOY!

Is a meal at a signature restaurant worth it with a child? That is a different question. I, for one, truly appreciate parents who don't let their child stay at the table and scream, but instead take them out to calm down. But, if the parents are spending most of the meal taking the child out to calm her down, is the meal worth it?

Last year at an Exquisitie Evening at Epcot ($185 per person), a couple brought their child who looked to be 6-12 months. We thought, hmmmm, that's interesting. To their credit, the child bothered no one. But, to keep her quiet, the parents spent most of the evening trading her off and walking her around in the reception area. It seemed like it would be impossible for them to enjoy themselves, especially at a dinner with 7-9 courses, each paired with one or more wines and the winemaker and chef discussing each course and wine.

So, I would say that best answer to the question, "should I take my child to a signature restaurant"? is that you know your child best. If your child is going to need lots of attention, going to need to be removed several times, etc., you may be better with a babysitter if you'd like to enjoy your meal.

We took DD to Yachtsman when she was 6 months and 18 months. She was great on both occasions. We made EARLY (4:30ish if I remember correctly) ressies so it was not packed. We didnt have to wait at all, the restuarant was not really really busy and we had a great meal. We walked around the outside. It was very nice. Have a great time!

This is the best I have heard yet! Great advice!

The atmosphere is perfectly fine for a toddler and as long as you're a respectful parent who removes her if a problem arises it won't be a problem! (course I think kids should be removed regardless of how nice the restaurant is but that's another story)

It's not formal or anything. Enjoy your meal!

and I would think that would be up to each individual family.

Ditto!! I ,for one, appreciate the fact that you are even asking this question!!

Though of course it's Disney and of course kids are welcome almost everywhere,I am not a parent who can enjoy my pricier meal if I have to be constantly monitoring and entertaining to avoid disturbing other guests.I don't think that children and parents are "entitled" to go anywhere just because they WANT to. Common courtesy and common sense should prevail.

Or maybe I'm just getting old - it was fine when there was ONE toddler DS, but add another child to that equation and things shift. At least for me.

The fact that you asked tells me that you and your toddler will be fine at Yachtsman's or probably anywhere else. What a cool mom!!!
