"Inappropriate fondling" news story kill your buzz?

Nope - it doens't change my plans or kill my buzz.

I know that there are chances anywhere we go of someone whether it be an employee or another guest could be a bad person.

I can't even say based on the "facts" we have recieved that you can flat out say it was handled properly or not. But no company is infallable.

Agree totally! As long a there are people involved there will never be perfection.

Right. It is great everyone is telling their children to be careful and scream fire and report any incident, but that is what this little girl did and the guy still got away with it free and clear. So DCL and her grandmother failed her. And now he can keep doing it. Well maybe not now-his name/picture are in the news report months later. That is what makes me angry. She (at 11) did the right thing and those in charge messed up. I am not sure I want to spend my money with a company that did that.

In the end, the only person whose behavior you can control is your own. You can choose not to cruise DCL because you disagree with their handling of this. You can choose not to send your kid to school if there is an incident there. You can choose to arm your fault with tools to avoid this from happening. (Hey, my whole family is choosing not to shop Abercrombie anymore because of how their CEO handles things.). But we can't control anyone else. So each person has to determine where their line in the sand is for each issue.

Another talk that I've had with my whole family is about going to the pools on the ship without a buddy that the rest of the family is aware of. That happened after the near drowning incident. Live and learn....

I am just coming back to the cruise Disboards after a couple of years away, but some of you might remember a Dis'er whose 13 year old daughter had something similar to this happen. And if I remember correctly, the mom felt that DCL handled it appropriately and put certain policies in place to help keep it from happening again. Something similar also happened on Royal Caribbean a few years back, but the girl failed to report it out of embarrassment until the next year. With the level of confidence that this waiter approached this girl, I am sure this is not the first time this happened. He comes off like a rather skilled predator.

Here's what I am going to do with the news video. I am going to show it to my son. He will be just three months shy of his eleventh birthday when we cruise, and is disappointed that he still can't go to the tween club. We are going to give him expanded privileges to check himself in and out of the Kids Club, and use this as a conversation about keeping himself safe and trusting his gut if/when a creepy adult tries to engage him in conversation.

You know what happened. You know how to dial 911. Why would you not just call the police even before you told DCL

Disney does this at the parks and hotels too. They don't want things reported.

And if it makes you mire secure look up the emergency number for every port.

I did not read all 12 pages of posts on the other thread about the news report... But I want to know why the 11 year old girl was out and about by herself. My daughter is 16 and on a much shorter "leash". When we sail in December my daughter will know to be careful.

We all agree that Disney did not act as we would have liked, but the question is whether this will change plans cruising or visiting the parks in protest against Disney. It will not change my disney vacation plans and unfortunately this can happen even in your own home with your family. Just'll have more caution, I will not let my daughter alone.

It was a little girl and her grandmother who were from Brazil. They may not even speak English. They may not have had a cell phone. They probably TRUSTED DISNEY to do the right thing.

Doesn't everyone think Disney is the absolute best place for children??

It makes me want to vomit to hear someone say that the VICTIM didn't do enough to help herself.

Parents let kids of all ages run loose on cruise ships, especially Disney.
I see kids as young as five, maybe even four, being allowed to go get themselves an ice cream cone and take it back to their room alone.

I won't start the debate of whether parents should watch their kids at all times, or whether parents and children should feel completely safe, especially on a Disney ship......it really isn't relevant. What happened, happened. I figure the guy probably would find some poor little one to fondle, regardless of how careful parents are. Pedophiles are pros at what they do.

So I have a trip planned for next year, and I was super excited....until this news story surfaced. I am aware that stuff can happen anywhere, but instead of being excited, now I am thinking about how I am going to have a "have your guard up" conversation with my daughter which will probably worry her. I know I have had that talk with her before,(she is only 5)but I feel she might need a refresher when going on board. i have even read that people were considering canceling their cruises because of that incident. Now I am extremely weary about utilizing the nursery and kids clubs.

Yes it is killing my buzz and I have been a huge supporter of DCL in the past. Obviously sick people are everywhere, that is not in question. However it was a complete surprise to me that Disney did not notify the appropriate authorities in a timely fashion, apparently intentionally allowing the perpetrator to escape justice. I find that unconscionable and I don't want to travel with them if this is their modus operandi.

Yes, it changed our plans. I canceled our cruise and let them know why. We will also go somewhere else in the fall. No WDW.

The sad reality is that kids are vulnerable wherever they are. We have been to wdw many times and will be taking our third cruise in Novemebr. I NEVER let my kids go places alone, not in wdw and not at home. They are currently 9 and 11. I would not expect them to be "safer" just because the cruise is DCL. We are very honest, without scaring them, about the world and how they need to be aware and cautious.

I am sick that this happened on my beloved DCL, but I am much sicker that they handled it poorly. I may be even more disturbed by the smiley NOT pressing charges... That's a message to the perpetrator that its ok to do what he did.

I will NOT be canceling our cruise.

...but you still want to be an Imagineer but you are boycotting Disney...

...to each their own. Like I said, better for me! If half the booked ones cancel, maybe they will throw a special out there for me to SNATCH up!..

How bout this one, Disney? Cruise 7 days for the price of 3! haha that'd be great...

That's kind of mean. That quote under her name could have been a Tag Fairy tag from way back. Are you familiar with how the Tag Fairy worked? One of mine says "Thinks California needs Disney cruise ships" and look how long California HAS had them now......but I'm not going to delete my Tag Fairy tag because of it.

I'd like to see the day Disney throws out any special pricing. At least the other cruise lines go DOWN as the cruise date gets closer, and will credit you the difference.

Why are you fighting this so much? I don't understand. :confused3 A little girl was molested......what if it were one of your daughters??

I haven't fought anything. My comments have just been about discounts and the fact that I find it humerous that they are boycotting them if they are promoting them at the same time.

That is all!

:(

(and as mentioned, this is one of the reasons I don't have ANY kids, daughters or otherwise. but I certainly don't condone any of it!)

That is what Stace is trying to point out. Explaining only because I see you joined the DIS recently so aren't familiar with how it use to work. The words under the thumbnails are called tags. If they are colored other than black, they were put there by the "tag fairy" here on the DIS. It was not done by the poster. The tag fairy made tags based on things that people posted on different threads. I haven't seen that done for years now, but it was a big deal when you logged in and discovered that you had been tagged by the tag fairy.

Your "humorous" thoughts and remarks on this topic are not the least bit funny.

This story has given me pause.

We are cruising next January, and had planned on giving our then 9 1/2-year-old checkout privileges at the club/lab. Now, not so sure about that.

Off topic, I know, but...

I've seen it a couple of times in just the last two weeks. The tag fairy is alive and tagging! pixiedust:

Well a bit of a misunderstanding as my thoughts were never meant to be humorous to anyone. (I was saying *I* personally found it humorous with all the contradictions, as every post they make is promoting it at the same time their comments are boycotting it.)

Also never heard of someone else tagging, that is most definitely a new thought.

In any case, explanation stated, I withdraw my comments and apologize.
