Ok so I was looking at the calendar for 2009 and I noticed that Inaguration day is January 20th - with it being a 3-day weekend already does anyone think there is a chance of a 4-day weekend? Thoughts?

We get Inauguration Day off anyway. Our building is located on Pennsylvania Avenue along the parade route, so it seems kind of ridiculous to try to carry on business as usual with all of that going on. My wife and I will probably come anyway and watch the parade from the warm confines of the office.

I am a federal employee who works in DC and I believe we will have the day off. I don't recall it being a day off when I worked in SE Virginia, though.

Maybe in the DC area but in the rest of the US I doubt it.

Never has been before so why should this be different.

To elaborate more - what about schools?

I would very much doubt it, unless you are right in the area where everything will be going on.

My son's school calendar is made way in advance. My son doesn't even have off on January 19th, so I very much doubt if they will have off on January 20. The only way would be if mother nature decides to give them a snow day ;)

The only area in the country where ID is officially a holiday in the the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. And this is because the Inauguration itself and the parade screw up traffic so much, and over 400,000 people come in for the events (and most of them are VIPs at home and expect to be treated the same) that they do as much as possible to discourage regular commuters from coming into the core area.
