It's two weeks out now and the flights are way high, but there's seats available. Do they usually come down closer to the flight day in order book the seats?

My curiosity is killing me here...why wait 2 weeks out? Are you planning on driving and hoping for a great fare?

they don't usually go down, the closer you get. You might want to look into hotwire or priceline.

Some airlines offer deeply discounted last-minute fares on select flights, but your chances of landing one for a place you already plan to go are slim. They're mostly useful if you can make plans to go AFTER you already know that the cheap airfares are available. If you're thinking you might go if you can get a cheap airfare and can wait until the week before you plan to go, then go to the sites of the airlines that serve your origination point and sign up for the emails they send with these offers. If you definitely will be going and need to get a cheap airfare, you probably will be disappointed.

Thanks. Jill, no, I bought my family's tix a few months ago when they were only $215. We have a family member that couldn't commit....

ahh, now I understand. Bumping this for you for the night timers.

The airlines are hoping that business travelers like ME will have to pay those high prices for those fares! (I have to go to Denver Monday morning, I haven't purchased the ticket yet!)
