In times of sadness like this....

Wow...as only a limited number of you know, things have been going pretty hard for me lately. I've been running around whining about it for a few weeks. Well, something like this reminds me of how futile all that junk is and what is important. It's a harsh reminder, but it needs to be remembered.

Truer words have never been said. At the end of the day what truly matters are your friends and family. The things you thought were so important pale in comparison when it comes to your loved ones.

Today is one of those day where I wish I could be in 3 places at once.

Home - With my family giving hugs and love.

At the hospital - Spending time with my grandmother in her last moments.

With my dear friend - Just sitting with her.
:hug::hug::hug:

This "family" is so full of love and support. Jen, Bill and Nikki, such good things to remember. Love above all else.
Brandie, you are thought of and prayed for more than you know.
Jen, I'm sorry for your grandmother's illness as well.

Love above all else. I could not agree more. :grouphug: If you don't mind I'm going to borrow it.

A big hug for you Jen - I know how tough it is for you just now!!!

After waking up to the news today and going off to work - Brandie and Matthew have been in my thoughts all day. I have never been lucky enough to meet them or many many of you Disers, but it just puts things in perspective that the Dis family is truly amazing! Here am I in a small town in Scotland but yet still part of this community for better or worse

Hugs to you all xx

I liken this group to the military community right now. When we get the unfortunate call that someone is in need, we rally around them because we ARE their family while they are away from family, whether we know them or not. I've been blessed to be part of the military community for 19 years and am blessed to be a part of this one. You are all so giving of your kindness, genorosity and out-pouring of love. That in and of itself is incredible. If you are here, you are part of the "family" whether you know one DISer personally, none or a bunch. Cherish that. It's special and certainly not something everyone has. I count myself as lucky to "know" you all.

Brandie, the road ahead of you is a difficult one. Each and everyone of us is here to offer you support, prayer and love. May God be with you at this time and always.

Well said Jen!

Tragedy gives us all an opportunity to refocus on what is really important in life. Surrouding yourself with the ones you love, care about and enjoy spending time with and leaving the little things behind. Our school is a "bucket filling" school, we must remember to help fill the bucket of others every day and our bucket will take care of itself. I will try harder to be a bucket filling person, I know there are times when I'm more of a bucket spiller than filler! Life it too short to be angry, I know I don't want to be angry anymore, I hope out of tragedy the lives of others can be touched. I'm remained of Bob and how his death touched us all, brought us all closer, put so many of us in contact with Give Kids the World.

Keep moving forward!

Such an awful way to be reminded not to sweat the small stuff.

Why is it that intellectually I know this, but I find I stop thinking of it in the midst of the little things that get me down. Then, something major comes along and I am reminded yet again that life is too short. I just wish it were in my nature to have this tenant in the forefront all of the time.

It's days like this, and posts like Jen's, that make the DIS the only message boards I visit. While I am not as active as I would like to be due to time constraints, I know that during the good times and the bad, the "strangers" here on the DIS can sometimes be more supportive than those physically around me. I'm not sure I'll ever make it to a meet or a Podcast event to meet any of your in person, but I still feel like I really am part of this great community!
