In the Spirit of the Season

How late is late?

Having just a bit of time and fast passes, we assumed that we could make our way to TT and then out of Epcot in time to get to our ADR at Boatwrights. Alex had spent the afternoon at WL and knew to meet us POR for dinner (which was scheduled for 5pm)

The ride stalled though and as we waited and waited, we began to run really late. As if the ride stalling didn't cause us to be late enough, once we did catch a bus, the bus stopped at POFQ and waited before proceeding to POR. Apparently someone left something on the bus and so they were making their way to POFQ to retrieve it from the bus we were on.

By the time we reached POR, we had received many many messages from Alex who was I think a bit panicked that he was there and we were not. How late was late? Well, it was late enough that I was very anxious, but really in the grand scheme I bet it wasn't all that bad. I wrote in my notes over 30 minutes. I suspect that the cm's have seen people show up later.

I had come close to canceling this ADR. I knew that on this day, it would be hard to leave a park since it was our last park day. I also knew that it would be a bit of a hassle going to POR. The monorail resorts are not hard to get to when you are at MK. Kona...Ohana...easy places to dine. Boatwrights...not so much.

However, I am so glad I kept this reservation. It was one of the best meals of the trip.

We started off with corn bread.
IMG_1085.jpg

Steve and I each ordered the - melt in your mouth good - prime rib
IMG_1086.jpg

Zoe ordered the medalioins and ate ALL of it, she like it so much.
IMG_1087.jpg

Alex ordered the pork chop to which he had no complaints.
IMG_1088.jpg

For dessert, the guys ordered the pecan pie. They did decide it was a bit too sweet. (isn't pecan pie always dreadfully sweet? :confused3)
IMG_1089.jpg

I ordered the bread pudding. I love bread pudding and this was ranks up among my all time favorites. And yes, that is in fact rum raisin ice cream on top!
IMG_1090.jpg

Zoe had the bananas foster cake. She liked it very much.
IMG_1091.jpg

If you notice some champagne glasses in the pics, it is because that is what they gave Steve and I for my birthday. Honestly, way better than those cupcakes!!! When we ate here during the trip where we celebrated my mom's bday, it was the best celebration too. (the entire serving staff came over and sang my mom the zippidy do da song)

I think Boatwrights is one of my favorite restaurants at WDW!

Next, we went back to Epcot. We hoped to get more sampling done at WS but were were just too stuffed from dinner.

We did manage to go to Mexico and rode the GFT.

I am not sure why I really like this ride. It is almost the same ride as IASM. (which I did not ride the entire trip)

Next up was Norway. Of course we had to ride Malestrom and then document Zoe's battle with the Troll.
IMG_1111.jpg

Finally it was time for illuminations. I am so glad we did not miss it. Alex however pitched a fit and did miss it. He did not want to be in a crowded area. He also wanted to sit on a bench to watch Illuminations. He found a bench with no on on it... down a side corridor. (a smoking section) It did not face the lake, but he was sure we could still view the show. I put my foot down and told him absolutely not. So with his little fit, he decided he didn't want to watch it at all and left Epcot to go back to WL.

We found a good enough spot to enjoy the show. It was bittersweet since this was the last thing we would be doing in any of the parks this trip. Still, it was wonderful!

Zoe was tired, but in awe of them. And yes, she is wearing some Mardi Gras beads. You didn't think we would go to POR without her getting some beads did you?

Once the show was over, we too returned to WL. We stayed up a bit packing since we would be checking out the next morning. :sad2:

Love the picture of Zoe and her beads...I think we need to add Boatwrights to our list of ADRs...that bread pudding looks amazing and you rank it high on your list! Yum-o!!!!

Sorry Alex was being disagreeable about Illuminations...sometimes you just cant win with teens!

I'm with Tammie, I think we need to add this too sometime. Your meals look great, the desserts too. But I'd want Zoe's medallions!

Wow! You covered alot of attractions, characters and meals!

I just wish I took better pics... sometime the ones I hoped would turn out were just horrible. At least this one of Zoe was passable.

Boatwrights has been yummy both times I have went. I am kinda sad about not having it on my ADR list for the next trip. Maybe the next one will make up for it. :thumbsup2

I had the medallions the first time we went...and was very impressed by them. I had the bananas foster that time and it was sooo yummy. I do think their desserts tend to be on the sweeter side....but sometimes that is how dessert should be!

I have never met a dessert that was too sweet! I have the biggest sweet tooth EVER!!

Nice update, Ann.

I am glad you had such a good meal at Boatwright's. The one and only time we ate there it was absolutely awful; perhaps we should give it another try?

Love the photo of Zoe watching Illuminations. She looks absolutely enthralled.

Oh no, goodbye day coming next???? :sad2::sad2::sad2:

We've never eaten at Boatwright's but MAY be staying at POFQ this October. We might just have to hop on the boat & give it a try! Thanks for the review!

That is one impressive tally you've got goin' on there!! :thumbsup2

Your meal at Boatwrights sounds awesome!!! Good decision keeping that ADR!

Illuminations :lovestruc. I definitely know that bittersweet feeling when the end of a trip is approaching.

I like the idea of Boatwrights too. Those steaks look absolutely amazing! Gah we are going to get so fat on this trip. Maybe we do need to do the 10miler to run some of this off!

And yes. Pecan pie is ALWAYS very very sweet!

Just read your last update. Zoe is adorable in all her pictures.

Your dinner at Boatwright's looks really good and I think it was so nice of them to give you champaign. Nice touch! That bread pudding looks amazing.

Nice Illuminations photo!

Last night - oh no!

:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes Me too! I love dessert, but I also would kill for that prime rib!

The prime rib was outstanding!!!

I remember that you are not a fan of Boatwrights... I really do think you should give it a try again.

I think Zoe was not only entralled, but tired....

and goodbye coming? Yup.:(

Illuminations :lovestruc. I definitely know that bittersweet feeling when the end of a trip is approaching.

I am so glad we kept it. I think I need to go back and add it for the fall...maybe just for me alone.

It is bittersweet as a trip ends... or a TR ends... but there is always something new around the corner...so more to look forward to.

Thank you for the nice comments about Zoe. I think she is cute... but... I am mom.

I think that the champagne was a nice touch, in deed!! I thought the bananas foster was good... the bread pudding is even better!!!

No way! :thumbsup2 We're planning to arrive on 10/13 and probably leave on 10/20. It's not quite set in stone just yet, which is making me batty, but the trip itself isn't set in stone. :headache: How 'bout you?

It is nice to read your Disney story and your youngest daughter is really pretty.

Finally all caught up :cool1: Took me long enough! My only excuse is that life has been too busy. My travels have been for fun, and two trips that weren't so fun, and of course most of these trips are last minute. We had to visit my husbands grandfather who was ill and then two weeks later fly back out again for the funeral. He had a very long and healthy life, and is illness was short, so a lot to be celebrated and thankful for. With having to go to the funeral, it meant I couldn't fly home to my family, so we made a last minute decision to drive down and spend Easter with my brother and his family as my parents were flying up. So at least I got to see them, even if it was very brief. Then we were just back down at my brothers for my nieces birthday. My husband and I don't have kids, so its a shock to the system spending a whole week with my nieces :rotfl2: constant go go go! THe last two trips have been loads of fun though.

That's awful about your fall. Hope your hand is all better now? Glad to hear the running is progressing!

Your breakfast at Akershus looked amazing!! Love Alex's comments about the empty park! I am in the process of trying to convince friends of ours (who hopefully will be joining my husband and I in September) that waking up early and getting to the park early is a good thing. Not to mention getting those early morning reservations. But I still get the looked at like I am a crazy OCD woman :rotfl:

I thinking eating around the world is an excellent idea. Looks like you had fun until it just got to be too busy. The food looks yummy, will have to do this in September.

And a big :woohoo: for the iphone! I love my iphone!

Can't believe the trip is coming to an end :(

It seems like you had a wonderful trip during Christmas break.. I can't wait to read your PTR for your next trip.. Oh and btw you may notice that I have a new ticker.. I went ahead and started planning my trip for this upcoming Oct. just in case we get a job.. So maybe some Pixie dust will come our way very soon..

Hi Ann! :wave2: remember me? ;)

I am finally caught up again! :cool1:

First let me tell you that I do NOT like the thought of your TR coming to an end .... you HAVE TO start a PTR soon. ;)

So glad you liked Boatwrights. We LOVED it the last time we ate there and I do hold an ADR for August.
It was funny to look at the photos as we had the exact same meal - Alex had Tom's and Zoe mine! :rotfl2: You then had my dessert - the breadpudding - isn't it wonderful?

That last photo of Zoe watching Illuminations is just awesome! The expression on her face is priceless. :goodvibes

I can't believe how far behind I have been. I am soooo sorry! Glad to hear that everything's OK with your hand. Can't believe you're about to wrap this trip up!

I love, love, love the pic of Zoe with her Princess dress and her pink cons. Awesome.

Boatwright's looks really good. I love that kind of food, so it might be worth a trip one of these days.

And Illuminations...my favorite nighttime spectacular!
