In the Spirit of the Season

air fare booked

I can't believe how much of a nut I am when it comes to stalking airlines for good fares. I don't think I have mentioned it, but I have spent the last few weeks really keeping an eye on a flight to florida. Now, before any of you get too terribly excited. This flight is not to mco.. and it is not for me. However, it is still :woohoo:

Steve and Zach are going on a week long vacation to Ana Maria Island. I am kicking myself because flights were much less at the beginning of my search (by about $100 rt) but I finally stopped the game when the difference between today and yesterday was considerable. I booked with SW so... worst case I just have to have a credit issued. I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself. After all... I was hesitant to book earlier because Zach was looking for a job. Then Zach got a job and I waited to hear that it would still work for him. Then there was Steve and the fact he JUST got back to me on his approved time yesterday.

So why does this overall excite me??? Well, it means I get my trip with much less guilt. I mean... :ssst: but mine will still cost a ton more.. but I am paying for Zoe and I...and not just myself. If I am lucky airfare will come down and I will be able to use points for one way and then use my credit from the December flight to book the two of us for next to nothing. So that isn't the issue. The issue? Well, MNSSHP... F&W... ToT 10 miler... these are all going to cost... not to mention the room and park tickets. Still... in my mind I can now justify it a bit more. After all... Steve is going to FL again so why not me. :rotfl:

How to enjoy and Yak Attack in AK

IMG_0579.jpg

Well, you do it while walking around AK of course! I am not sure when I got mine. It most likely was not right after breakfast but I got it while waiting for Steve to come back and enjoyed sipping it while we walked around. It was not strong (AT ALL) and honestly for what I paid it would have been better to just forgo the drink entirely. Yet, I had told myself I would get a couple drinks to try on this trip (and this was on my list). On Kira’s recent trip, she too got one. Apparently getting it from the bar inside Yak and Yeti (table service) is a much better idea.

So I left off with Steve heading out of AK to retrieve items for Zoe. I won’t drag this out too much since I know you all know the outcome to this. Basically, he was gone for HOURS. The bus leaving AK was slow to come. Then he needed a break at the hotel. Then the bus returning to AK was slow. At least, this is his story and he is sticking to it. ;)

Meanwhile though Alex, Zoe and I pressed on.

We enjoyed the Pangani Trail. It was so cool the baby gorilla was out. Durning his/her antics one of the female gorillas stood up and beat her chest. The hollow noise that it sent out was alarming...but very cool.

We rode Kilimanjaro Safari. I am glad to hear that they are going to change this up a bit and take out the “baby elephant” to put in space for a watering hole for REAL animals. Still even with the need to drive out the poachers... it was a nice trip into the Savannah.

We decided it was too cold for Kali so we went on to watch the Flights of Wonder Show. I think I could watch that over and over. I love the tour guide in it!

Finally, Steve arrived at the park so we went to the entrance to meet him. I was anxious for him to arrive but even as he walked over the bridge he moved so slow like he was purposely dragging out the time he was away. (of course, I am sure it was just my perception)

By this time we were all getting a bit hungry. Since we had such a big breakfast and we planned an early dinner, I did not plan for a lunch. Instead, I planned for us to grab some pretzels. The jalapeno pretzels were something Alex was looking forward to. He made very few requests for this trip and this was one of them. Sadly, I forgot that I dislike these. The dough doesn’t seem done... just way too gooey for me. We then picked up a white elephant cupcake. YUM!!! Steve also believed he needed coffee and requested an iced coffee. He had to order a shot of espresso in order to “fix” the coffee since it tasted like it had no coffee in it. Still hungry and on our way to Maharajah Jungle Trek, we picked up a couple egg rolls. Now those.. those are a great use of a snack credit if you are looking for something not sweet. (the cupcake on the other hand is great if you do want a sweet snack)

We enjoyed the MJT. We spent a lot of time taking pictures of the tigers. There was one who was oddly interested in the group at the glass across from us. He/she paced back and forth and back and forth and several times looked as though he/she might jump up on the glass. The minute the group cleared, interest was lost.

Another animal we saw that was worth noting were the bats. Now, I have stopped to see these guys each trip. I am not so sure I plan to in the future. Without going into it too much, I just discovered that they are fairly gross. Maybe the winter is their mating time because Kira and Josh saw even worse displays than we did. I know...animals..nature.. etc. and honestly it isn’t that I want to shelter Zoe from it. We call body parts by their real names and such.. answer questions honestly and such... but really I think that these bats are little deviants so not sure they are on my future viewing list. We took pictures before we really could tell what was going on. I would post those, but they are quite obscene.

And because now we all need a bit of a palate cleanser, my pretty princess... and no, she didn't pick the flower. It was one that had fallen on the ground.

Don't know what kind of flower this is, but isn't it pretty?

Next Chapter: Joy and Excitement and a Belly Ache

I love the picture of Zoe and the flower! Ab was in love with those flowers too! She called them Suess Puffers because they reminded her of all the Dr. Suess looking plants from his books!

We did not make it to Flights of Wonder....:confused3 the kids were just not interested and have seen lots of bird shows...still I wish we would have. Heck we spent almost 12 hours in AK you would have thought we had time!

Poor Steve...I bet he enjoyed his long bus ride!

You and airfares :rotfl2:...I have to admit I have been looking at them dreaming of places to go. I have a $95 per person credit on SW that has to be used by September 25th...I know we are not going to use it by then (summer is already booked with different things for the kids at different times)...do you think I could book a dummy flight with that credit before it expires, then cancel that flight a book a flight we do want later for summer 2013 and still retain that orginial credit from September?

This is the way I understand it... you will need to book airfare by 9/25. Who knows how far in advance their booking will be by then but certainly it will be into 2013. (maybe early summer:confused:) Then when that airfare is booked there is a value to it that you can then use toward another flight later in the year. (I think) So my thought is yes, you should be able to book something for late summer 2013 without losing that credit that you currently hold. It will mean shelling out any extra cash above the $95 you have toward it (and it may mean you end up with a credit that gets pushed forward when you "rebook" for summer 2013) The only way this wouldn't work (again, speculating) is if the flight you book with your $95 credit is say $150 and then you use the $95 (leaving $55) and then sw only assigns a value of $55 to your booking. But I find this doubtful. I would make sure to only book a one way and not a rt. That way you are more likely to a. use up all that existing credit and b. not be issued a new one

Happy Belated Birthday to Zoe!! It looks like everyone had a great time! Loved the decorations, and of course loved the theme.

I never really thought about TH, but after your pictures will look into in more depth. We are planning on doing the dxdp next time we go with the intention of trying more places. And of course meeting Donald and the gang is a bonus to the food :)

When is the ToT 10 miler? Did I read correctly that is when you and Zoe are hoping to go back?

GLad to hear Alex was feeling better and was able to join in with the activities.

Thanks! I think the girls enjoyed it. Can you believe though that Zoe has now requested that next year is not princess themed. I certainly hope that 8 is not when my princess leaves... she tells me it has to do with having princess party favors for the last 3 of her birthdays. I guess that makes sense as to why she might want something else...

Dxdp will really allow you a chance to try a ton of different places. TH is always a favorite of ours since it is a. in the park and b. a little different in what the food offerings are. Breakfast is just that much better since, yes... Donald and the gang are there!

When is the ToT 10 miler? Did I read correctly that is when you and Zoe are hoping to go back?

ToT 10miler is 9/29.. which is smack dab in the middle of when I was hoping to go. I have not registered yet... still kinda scared. Ultimately though, as soon as I get myself sure that I can do 10 miles, I will register. Looks like there might be a good package discount for attendees too...sooo that won't hurt
GLad to hear Alex was feeling better and was able to join in with the activities.

It was good that he was feeling better. I wish he would not have missed the day before, but at least he still had a week to enjoy.

I think you may have in fact gone to the wrong Wolfgang Puck. I didnt know about a second express in DTD though.:confused3 The one that we go to always tends to have a bit of a line... but it is very very deceiving. It moves super quick. Next time... yes, brave the line.

And.. thank you for the happy birthday wishes for Zoe.

We went to the one on the west side called express (according to allears). Now I see that we should have stuck with the cafe.. but hey now I know for next time!

I have to say that you were pretty good about it! I would have been very frustrated and pretty livid as well! Oh that's nice! A father son trip and a mother daughter trip! And Steve didn't have to go to Disney =)! It looks like you still had some fun with AK.. now was this the day that you braved the ride? I have been waiting to hear about it!

Now to convince the others that this will be a good choice :)

Hopefully she will remain your Princess for a long time! If Zoe wants a different theme maybe instead of Princess you could do a Mary Poppins/Alice in wonderland theme. Have an afternoon tea party with little sandwiches and scones etc..

Now I just need to convince the others that TH will be a good choice :)

We are planning on being in WDW during that time! Had no idea there was a marathon on at that time. I'm sure you will be able to run 10 miles by September! We went the beginning of September last year and we loved it. So want to go back again this year in September but delay it a few weeks so we can be there for my husbands birthday. If we end up there at the same time, we will have to meet :)

Ann, I'm caught up again.

How aggravating to have to wait an hour for a bus. There is just no excuse for that at all.

The pictures with the characters are great (I agree...the one with Alex and Goofy is terrific).

Love the pictures of the baby gorilla and the tigers. I could spend hours looking at those guys.

I'm with you on the bats...but for a different reason. They scare the poop out of me.

The photo of your Princess with the flower is absolutely priceless.

How cool you are planning a fall WDW trip! There is so much going on during that time... I am just not sure how we are going to fit it all in. We went in September of 2010 (the first week of in fact) and it was a bit too warm for us. I am hoping that the end of September/beginning of October will be much better. I agree... if we end up at the same time... we will have to plan a dismeet :goodvibes

The bus was frustrating... and to find out that it was due to a new dispatcher just made it worse. I think during such a busy time, a new person should still have been supervised... and if they were not so new as to need it... then that person really should be placed somewhere else...cause dispatch apparently isn't a good fit for them.

I love the animals at AK... I love to watch all of them. This is just one of the many reasons I love WDW... there is more than just the typical theme park. (unlike DL) You have AK... where you can enjoy animals. Epcot where you can enjoy culture (even if it is a pseudo representation of each country) Then you get a similar park in DHS as DCA and then of course DL and MK are similar. I figure I get so much more out of about the same cost by gong to WDW.

Yup, no more bats for me! :rotfl:

Ahhh I love Tusker House! That's the ADR we changed out for H&V. Not going to ever do that again! :rotfl2: Will definitely be back to TH next trip... once I get Eddie's fingers out of his ears and listening to me about it... :goodvibes

Eddie would be at the same pace Steve seemed to be... he's my 'wanderer', too. Drives me crazy... he is worse than our kids about wandering off.

Are you going to the ToT 10miler??? :woohoo:

And is it awful that I want to see a bat picture? Curiosity getting the better of me... but don't you worry... I can always google. :lmao:

Steve....Eddie....Jeff...3 reasons for fall 2013! I swear I felt like we were constantly waiting for him or looking for him the entire trip!

I dread the day goo decides no more CARS... Thinking 2013 will be DL year before he thinks Lightning McQueen is not cool anymore!

I am hoping to... right now it is so ucky out that I just can't get motivated. I did walk to the store a few times last week. Round trip that is a mile. Think that counts towards training? :rotfl2:

And is it awful that I want to see a bat picture? Curiosity getting the better of me... but don't you worry... I can always google. :lmao:

OMG! :lmao: Not awful of you... but who knew that bats could be so.. endowed :rolleyes1 and flexible. Ok... enough said. ewe... gross darn bats.

Yup! I think several of us battle with our guys being a bit challenging when it comes to disney travel. I am just so happy that Steve and Zach are going on a trip by themselves. They are looking forward to... wait for it...

SLEEPING IN!!!

good grief if I want to sleep in I do it in my own bed. I can see it now... they will be gone a week and most of it will have been spent in bed. :rotfl2: Oh well, it is what they like so good for them.! I have been poking fun though at both them and me. I asked if they wanted a count down calendar... they looked at me like I was crazy.:rotfl2: Then we all got to laugh about how I would happily plan each moment of their trip for them. I actually think this separate vacation is bringing us closer. :rotfl2:

I dread the day goo decides no more CARS... Thinking 2013 will be DL year before he thinks Lightning McQueen is not cool anymore!

I know what you mean. I know that princesses are not always going to be on Zoe's radar. I am so happy that we did BBB on the last trip because of this. Who knows how long it will be before she doesn't want to dress up. And... DL in 2013. I know that Karin is headed there in 2013 and I want to meet up with her... how to make the fall trip and a DL trip all work in 2013 :rolleyes1 plus... I promised that we could do a tropical family vacay in 2013. I bet something will have to give. Hmmm... maybe a separate vacay again? :rolleyes1

Personally, I am glad the procedure got pushed back. I have just been so sick. Not a lot of fun. I did manage to get all my work done for the week though so I can now take today through Sunday off. :woohoo: I have managed to stay on top of the house for the most part...and when I haven't, like last night when I chose to get caught up on my emails, Zach did the work for me. (although, while dishes were done... well... counters could stand to be wiped down a bit better and sweeping/vacuuming is not up to my standard as well)

Sorry Zoe is still hurting, but if her mommy is sick then maybe it was a good thing her procedure got pushed back. If your sick you can't be there 100% for her like I know you want to be. Yay for Zach helping you out!

Speaking of Zach... he finally got a job!!!! (well, outside the one that doesn't afford him to live on his own) He has drill this weekend and so he officially starts on Monday. :woohoo:

Yay for Zach getting a job.

But eek about that job situation you had to deal with... That just sounds like one big nightmare.

Now I can prepare for Zoe's bday party and do (hopefully more than one) updates to my TR.:goodvibes

Happy late birthday to Zoe. Me being so out of the loop with the back and forth craziness I missed it :(

Luckily, I am one of those people who brings cleaning supplies. I read once on a TR or PTR that noted how quite a few people put their dirty clothes into the drawers. Well that was it for me. I would not want to put my clean clothes or any other item in a drawer that had possibly not been cleaned out after housing dirty laundry. And after Alex being sick, it only solidifies my thought. After all, if I had just placed all his soiled clothing in the drawers... well, you get the point. I also brought a canister of large alcohol wipes for Zoe so these too came in handy when sterilizing the room.

Eek about the thought of the drawers... Bringing clorox wipes next time....

Steve took Zoe to explore the resort until everything was done. The ONLY thing I wasn’t able to get done to my satisfaction was the shower curtain. (another thing to thing about when you are in a hotel room) Since mousekeeping was outside the room, I asked if they would come in to clean it and to take away the garbage. She was happy to come in and help. Help was..spray down the shower curtain with cleaner and then bat at it (yes, not wipe or rinse, but HIT at) the curtain with a towel. Yeah, I made sure not to TOUCH that curtain again the entire trip.

I cannot believe she didn't actually clean it...

I was awestruck. Steve about had a panic attack. I wanted to linger, but he couldn’t get out of the section fast enough. It was a good thing we got to the park so late. Since we really didn’t have a lot of time to linger if we wanted to do anything.

My dad was the same way over the Osborne lights... He hasn't gone through it with us in probably a decade.

Since Steve had never seen One Man’s Dream, it was on his to do list. So this is where we went. This became a standard for the trip. I would do things without him and then he too would want to do them and so (especially in this case) I would either not want him to go alone or would want to go with him so did it a second time.

You didn't seem to mind since you and Zoe got to have such wonderful Mommy Daughter times when the boys weren't there.

If any of you remember me mentioning how my one and only time I rode this went, you may not be surprised by what came next. No, no violence this time but rather I gracefully removed myself down the “service” elevator. That thing is scary enough! i did get a picture of Steve and Zoe in their seats just before I ducked out. I waited for them at the end of the ride. I was unable to get a good shot of them off the screen.. and I didnt’ pay for a picture. Zoe came down and wanted to ride again, but the ride was closed and so was the park.

I have never road ToT either.. Can't stand the dropping feeling in the pit of my stomach.

It was now time for us to head back to WL where we in bed by 10pm. Before bed though, we had to go down and get a snack at Roaring Fork. Since Alex did not use a cs at dinner we used it to get him a bottle of water, my a smores cupcake and Steve some sushi.

Those cupcakes sound AMAZING!

Zoe's Birthday Party

Sunday we had Zoe's birthday party. Zoe really wasn't feeling well. (her temp got up to 101 the night before) But she was a trooper and still managed to have a good time.

She's always such a trooper. I know she'll always have her condition, but the poor dear has been though so much I just hope it all eventually levels out to a tolerable level for her soon.

I thought those who were not "in the salon" getting their hair done could be in the "theater" having popcorn, cookies and candy while watching Tangled.

For those wanting more activity, I had a craft table set up with various Disney princess coloring crafts (sticker, door hangers, puzzles and mini posters)

Then the plan was that once the movie was over and the girls hair had all been done we would have cupcakes and open presents.. then they would all go home.

I can't wait to start having these kinds of parties with Alexa! Sounds like a lot of planning and a success for your little princess... By the way, you made Alexa's day. She was so excited to get a present from her friend Zoe! She spent two hours yesterday morning playing with the princess puzzles. [/COLOR]

And Buddy.. Please don't forget about him... he and I had a really bad fight yesterday... it was a long day.. #1 reason I will be needing the ladies trip!

So are you saying I made a wise choice in NOT doing H&V? I thought about it... just for that before-RD ADR... but ultimately decided against it.

Yes maam, wise choice! :thumbsup2

OMG! :rotfl2: YES!!! Steve wanders off too... always makes me think this is where the kids get it from.

Isn't it crazy how the fathers think it's appropriate to do that???

OMG! :lmao: Not awful of you... but who knew that bats could be so.. endowed :rolleyes1 and flexible. Ok... enough said. ewe... gross darn bats.

Hi Ann!
Long time - no see! But now I am all caught up again! :woohoo:

First of all - happy VERY belated birthday to beautiful little Zoe!

I love your updates and am sorry to read about your bus issues - I think it convinces me even more that I am not a fan of Disney transport.

Can you believe we have never been to Tusker House since it turned into a TS restaurant?

The tigers look amazing ..... they are so fun to watch and I am glad you enjoyed your day, even though the Yak Attack was not what you thought it would be.

Congrats on the boys airfare ...... and shucks, if you do the ToT 10 miler, we will miss you by a couple of days again! :sad2:
I guess we HAVE TO plan for DL in 2013 to finally meet up!

the buses can be frustrating sometimes. There were days when it seemed like every bus came but the one we wanted and then the next day the bus we wanted yesterday comes and the one we did not want yesterday is no where to be found. I just confused myself i hope this made sense

Hello again Ann

I have been missing in action on your TR.. I really need a day to sit and read everything and look at all the pictures you have posted but I have been going through so much lately.. If its not job related issues its dealing with the news of my dad getting diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. The last few months has not been the best time for me and my family.. Can I just go hide in a deserted cave and not come out. I think we may have two possible leads for my DH on jobs. One will put us in Northern Virginia and the other will put us one hour away from DW.. Oh i so hope he gets the second job because I will be spending every other weekend at the most magical place of them all..

Give your sweet daughter Zoe a belated bday hug from me. I hope she is doing better..

How exciting another trip planned for DW.

Hopefully I can catch up on your TR in the next few days

Hey I hope that you are feeling better! I also hope that Zoe is feeling okay!
