CathrynRose - can you suggest something that would work for long hair which is thick and curly (but I want to be able to blow dry it and wear it straight most of the time)? The layers will need to be long to avoid the bozo look.
How is the best way to ask for a particular kind of cut? Do I say "long layers"? I guess I should bring the pics, but aside from that, is there anything I can say to assure myself of getting what I want (specifically a GOOD cut)? I am asking as I have had some very bad experiences! I am all ears in the suggestion department!This would would work :

Okay.....pictures I will bring! If I bring a few different ones, would that be better to give a stylist an idea of what I like? I just want to have a contemporary cut that can be blown out straight but can also be curly when I am lazy (or when it is humid outsideYou have to bring the pictures. Those cuts both are long shag's. Pictures are very helpful. Even pics of things you do NOT like help.

The reason words don't work so well is there is not "universal" language in beauty. Hairdressers use a lot of different terms fo a lot of different techniques. Pictures speak volumes!
