In the mood for a hair style change

Where are you all finding these hairstyle pictures? I'm getting mine done tomorrow and really need suggestions!

I'm 44, but look much younger (with freckles and everything). My hair is dark brown, fine, but thick, and wavy. Frizzy when it's humid. I like to have longish bangs so I can sweep them to the side.

Find me a hairstyle!!

My mom and I googled "Short hairstyles" before we went to the stylist. There's a TON of websites dedicated to hairstyles. I just tried to find a hairstyle I thought looked best with my face shape.

On ivillage.com, you can go to the makeover section and upload a pic of yourself (with your hair pulled back) and "try on" different hairstyles. My kids thought it was hilarious.

This is cute for curly hair:

I liek this one too, but a bit longer:

CathrynRose - can you suggest something that would work for long hair which is thick and curly (but I want to be able to blow dry it and wear it straight most of the time)? The layers will need to be long to avoid the bozo look. :lmao: A challenge, I know. :rotfl2:

How is the best way to ask for a particular kind of cut? Do I say "long layers"? I guess I should bring the pics, but aside from that, is there anything I can say to assure myself of getting what I want (specifically a GOOD cut)? I am asking as I have had some very bad experiences! I am all ears in the suggestion department! :lmao:

You have to bring the pictures. Those cuts both are long shag's. If you want to use wording - but I honestly prefer when people *don't* (Brenda, do you agree?) They use the wrong terminology, then it starts to get confusing.

Tell them what you want your hair to do, look like, fall when it's done. KWIM?

And for me - it's easy, I watch 'em like a hawk. :cool2:

And if it were me, doing those cuts - I'd flat iron your whole head, and cut you dry.

I'm really into cutting dry now (particularly razoring). I think it gives a better representation of what you're ending up with.

Okay.....pictures I will bring! If I bring a few different ones, would that be better to give a stylist an idea of what I like? I just want to have a contemporary cut that can be blown out straight but can also be curly when I am lazy (or when it is humid outside :lmao:). Oh.....and long shags are okay on curly hair.......right? I just don't want to look like bozo. My hair is rather long right now, so I will be presenting as a blank palette, so to speak. ;)

Oh yeah. You'll be good. :)

FYI - Jennifer Anniston's hair is thick and curly.

I do agree!! :thumbsup2 Pictures are very helpful. Even pics of things you do NOT like help. :)

The reason words don't work so well is there is not "universal" language in beauty. Hairdressers use a lot of different terms fo a lot of different techniques. Pictures speak volumes!

Yes - good point!!!

CathrynRose or Buckalew11 - do either of you know of a good website a 12 year old could go and look at "teen" cuts? Everything that I have looked at did nothing for me or didn't have much to look at. I wouldn't let her get her hair cut into anything they did showed and none were something that she could really wear either.

The three things she has to have is - no bangs, shoulder lenght (has to be able to pull into a bun for ballet, and easy to take care of.
