In spite of Magic Bands, I will still need to carry....

Where did they say that? They allude to it, surely, but I don't think they ever say it.

It was on one of the main promotions on the DVC site and I think perhaps on the MDE site. They have changed from what they used a couple of months ago but if I run across it again I'll post it. It was very definite about leaving everything behind except the band on your wrist.

Of course! I remember reading that in the early mailers...might have been the one with the free flash drive. The first thing I thought of was my DVC discount. They don't want us to use the discounts or at least make it more inconvenient :rotfl:

Yup, and that's a big reason I wonder how the MBs are so helpful.

If you're only looking at MBs as a way to making shopping and getting discounts easier, then you probably won't see them as too helpful.

They get you into the park without having to pull out your AP or ticket.
They get you into your room without having to pull out your key.
They allow you to pay for your purchase without having to get a c.c. (even though yes if you want discounts you either have to have the AP discount card, your AP, DVC card, etc.)
They allow you to use FP+ without having to pull out your paper FP.

With regards to convenience, I think Disney hit the mark here. Eventually I'd like to think all the systems will be tied together and you won't need to pull out your ID and DVC/AP cards for discounts, but that's a while away I think.

And not for nothing, I don't care what Disney says... I never go ANYWHERE without my ID, C.C., and cash. What if I have to leave Disney property because of an emergency? What if their computers are down and I need a backup form of payment etc?

I try not to leave my "fate" up to others, but instead, always be prepared for the worst.

I happen to have that mailer here with me. I may need a Disney intervention. :rotfl:

The first mention (page 4) only says, "... you'll travel lighter throughout your stay ..."

Page 8 talks about the bands. Nothing about only needing it, and does specifically call out that your "Credit card must be presented at Disney Resort hotel check-in for purchases with MagicBand."

Everything else is about parks, resorts, tickets, fastpass, and not about the bands themselves.

As I mentioned - they are using different ads now but it was specific before. I double checked after a few people were touting it as one of the benefits over the old KTTW cards. But of course RFID is RFID so that didn't make sense and made me go double check the language.

Certainly could be, I just literally can't find anything that says it at the moment. But like you said, it doesn't really do anything the KTTW cards on the Disney ships weren't doing, and those weren't replacing your wallet/purse, so ...

Now if they find a way to have it automatically apply discounts (which should technically be possible, MDE even recognizes my credit card as a Disney Visa automatically), that would obviate the need to carry most of your cards, though you'd still need your ID to be served alcohol if they card you. And its just not wise to go anywhere without your ID and any medical coverage info anyway.

Yes, and if you have a Disney Visa, you'll need to carry that to get discounts as well...and TIW. Pretty much your wallet :goodvibes

Just got back on the 21st from another week a WDW and DCL. I didn't use the MB and just asked for a standard KTTW Card. Had to carry all the other cards for the discounts anyways including the TIW card so what is the point of the MB. I also had all the bands set so they can only open the room doors. We used our CC for charging and our MYW tickets to enter the parks.

I know, I know... We are non-conformant but if I have to show the old cards to get the discounts and use the CC and not the MB to avoid double charging me then what is the point of the MB? :confused3

ROFLMAO!!! Can you just imagine the day to come (and you know it will) when the main computer data center is for some reason offline and they can't scan the MBs???!! LOL The entire property will be inaccessible for entry and purchase and these new SLOWPass+ thingys wont work!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
