In serious need of help from veterans

I would go ahead and call disney. Make sure you have CRO (central reservations office) and not WDWT (Walt Disney World Travel Co). The travel company requires a larger deposit and has a horrible cancellation policy. W/ CRO you can cancel 5-days out from your vacation; but who would want to do that right.

Get your rates for your room first. It should be what I posted ( I think this was the message I replied to) or somewhat close to that. Then ask what the dining plan would cost. I think they give you one lump sum and don't break it down so you will have to break out your costs. You'll have to back out your room and park tickets to get what you will be paying for meals. I say you can eat counterservice for about $40 per meal. Kids meals are about $4-$6 each and I usually pay $10-$12 for an adult meal. If you get milk, they are huge and the kids can share, ice water is free!, get extra cups and split the huge sodas, and at the counter service in tomorrowland their chicken plate is out of this world for a counter service meal. Check out allears for menus and prices. If you want table service meals each day, then I say you probably want to consider the dining plan (I have never used it so I can't give you much input on it). If you will be mostly counter service then you may want to book a room only and get your tickets from a broker (mousesavers has some recommendations). If you will return to the Allstar for breaks, then you would not want to get the meal plan unless it can be used at the food courts.

Also, I think the POP is considered a value resort just like the AllStars.

Pop Century is a "value" just like the All-Stars. I still wouldn't do the dining plan (unless it were free). What we generally do is eat breakfast in our room (while everyone is getting ready there is time) with some items we pick up at a grocery store (most town car services do a grocery stop with their service...by the way, we also pick up a case of bottled water and take a few bottles each day into the park with us) and eat 1 or 2 meals (character or other) out. For lunches, since it's just my hubby, 7 year old son and I, we generally order 2 "combos" and split among the 3 of us and there is plenty (by 7 year old is a BIG eater). At dinner, we sometimes do a sit-down...and sometimes something else (but never the turkey legs...they just gross me out).

I'd figure out which is the "cheaper" deal for you. My experience is that we generally come out ahead paying as we go than for a plan. My cousin and her family just did the plan and came home with "extras" they hadn't used (mostly snacks) and now can't use.

As far as AAA goes...yes, their discounted rates are usually good. I don't remember how long you are going to be there, but sometimes an Annual Pass (just for 1 adult) saves money since you get a room discount and other discounts too. Right now rates are only posted through 4/13 but if you are going before then I'd be happy to check for you (just PM me).

Now for the last question...should you take a trip you really can't afford. Sorry, but NO! Yes, life is short...but debt (especially credit card debt) is LONG and COSTLY. Instead...why don't you sock away what you would pay on your credit card each month and take it when you know you can afford it. You (and your thrifty hubby) will be much happier. Delayed gratification is sometimes sweeter. Sorry to be the party pooper.
