Hey folks, soon we will be heading out for our adventure. Many thanks to all the help here on this and other boards. Didn’t have to post a lot of questions, just had to use the search box and most everything got answered. I hope that you find this TR helpful, interesting and maybe a bit amusing. I’m not a writer and I’ve never done a full TR before, so apologies up front. But, because of all the help that can be gleamed from these boards I thought that I would at least “pay the tab”, so to speak. This might get a little long, but sometimes context is necessary to really appreciate the whole story. :goodvibes

A little back ground, (okay, maybe a lot) first before we launch. popcorn:: Like many of us that come to these boards, I love Disney. I know that it is now a enormous corporate monolith, but I was so taken as a child to watching Walt on TV every Sunday night, and the things he showed me every week was truly magical (warning, I like using that word). Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto in a good cartoon, can make me laugh just about anytime. I knew all the words to the Mickey Mouse club theme before I could say prayers at night. My oldest daughter’s, first toy was a stuffed “dooh” (Pooh), that I had bought long before she came along. Disney World for me is the one place that I can be a kid and not worry about who’s looking and who’s disapproving.

In 1990, I met my DW. I was immediately taken by her and we became best friends before anything else happened. Since I had been married (badly) before, it took me seven years after we first met, to get to the point where I was able to make that type of commitment again. Thank goodness, she stuck around all that time waiting for me to get off the pot. Since neither of us had large families, we didn’t really want to put a lot of money into a big wedding. Instead, we decided to do something for just us. I really fell in love with the idea of walking out on a beach, saying our I do’s and then going for a swim or something. DW was game as she really didn’t want to be stuck with her very dysfunctional family at any type of event where alcohol might possibly be served. After some research we decided on the Bahamas as the site for our wedding. Before that, though, I had a bit of surprise. (I swear, I will get to this decade, just hang in there). Yes, we also booked a several days in the World. It was a great time. We stayed at Dixie Landings, before it was no longer PC to call it that. We rode on Mr. Toad and in Pooh’s honey pot. Sang “It’s a Small World” until we were insane. Drank our way around the World Showcase at Epcot and so on…..On our last night before boarding our flight to Nassau and after a great meal at the Yachtsman Steak house, I suggested a walk around the docks of the Yacht Club to stretch our legs, then up to the back gate at Epcot for Illuminations. On the way, we happened to meet up with “Captain Jeannie” who just happened to be starting up one of the pontoons that had been moored near by. I asked the good Captain could we possible have a ride up to Epcot? Her reply, at the amazement of my then finance was…”for you sir, on this magical night, it would be my honor to have you aboard my modest vessel”. DF stood there with mouth wide open, and hey, I was pretty blown by that myself. I paid for the cruise when I booked our trip and had secretly met with Jeannie right before we went to dinner to set things up….As we cast off, my DF still stunned that we had just “walked” on board and was about to go cruising. Magic my dear, just go with it… pixiedust: Off we go, up the lake towards MGM. Just as we passed the Tower of Terror (I love how it looks at night), Captain Jeannie killed the engines. With the opening music of illuminations in the back ground, I got down on one knee and pulled out an engagement ring, that for months, I swore to DF, that I couldn’t afford, and proposed. Magic moments at their best. After a few pictures by our Captain and a toast, we cranked up and headed down to the bridge for the rest of Illuminations. I won’t bore you with the rest, only to say that dreams come true, if you believe. Ten years later, the magic in that moment is still in our lives and is still a key part of our marriage. :cloud9: Also, about 30 little English granny types have pictures of our wedding in their beach pictures.....:love2:

Since that time in 1997 in the Bahamas, we had settled down, built a couple of houses and had 2 beautiful daughters. My girls are the center of our universe. They are bright and beautiful and full of wonderment. :cutie: Both are unique and magical and have been since they day they came into our lives. DW 1 is athletic, strong and a tom boy, but is the first to come to someone’s rescue when they are sick or injured.:jumping3: DW2 is all girly-girl with pink princesses; makes birthday cards for every friend and family member and thinks Dale Earnhardt Jr is the greatest guy ever (next to daddy). princess: At ages 7 & 6 they are already Disney vets and have been to Disney World 4 times. My favorite picture that sits on my desk is the three of us underneath the “Big Hat” at MGM, taken by a passing stranger that thought it was cool that a dad would be taking his two little girls over to Al’s Toy Barn, to get Buzz and Woody’s autograph instead of watching a ball game or hitting a golf ball. My favorite life moment was sitting cuddled with my two little princesses and my big princess on the sidewalk in the shadow of Cinderella’s castle, looking up at the sky while Wishes exploded all around us. (Yes, it was a teary moment) And while I cherish every second with them, I know that our time together is limited, so I strive to make every one of those seconds rich and meaningful. That’s the sort of thing you think about sitting out on the back porch in the quiet end of a very long day.:scratchin

Fast forward to January 2006. (See, at least we are in the right decade). I knew that our 10th anniversary was coming up in October 2007. My brain went into planning mode. What could I do, that would be special and really mark the occasion. What to do… (Think Pooh, think!!). Ah hah, let’s go to Disney World…right. That’s creative; we just were there in the spring of 2005. Hmmm, how about….hmm Bahamas, Disney, Disney, Bahamas…...ding ding ding ding.. Disney Cruise!!!! After some Googling and the customary reading of boards (this one, Passporters, AllEars, all the groups that had helped in the past.), I had a plan of action and a theme. We were going to recreate that time in October of 1997. A trip to Disney World, followed by a trip to Nassau!! Yes, now we are talking. But when? Disney in the summer would be brutal. October (our Anniversary) would not work; as I didn’t want to take the girls out of school (1st grade teachers can be tough and scary). Next possibility would be their spring break. Easter, no not Easter, Easter crowds are as bad as summer crowds. Well, let’s at least see...… yikes, sticker shock! Does the term premium season mean second mortgage? After many iterations in a spreadsheet…there….I had it pretty much worked out. I would make a deposit, and then I would make a payment a month until my yearly bonus in August and pay off the balance. This would be all out of “my” pocket, and no “house” funds would be used. Since it was premium season time, there wasn’t a ton of difference between doing a separate booking and a land/sea package (although I wouldn’t do it that way again). Since I wasn’t saving much of anything I decided to take advantage of Dreams Unlimited $100 ship board credit. At least I will get some satisfaction getting something extra in the deal. After few clicks at the Dreams Unlimited site, I was booked! Three nights at the Poly (a new spot for us) and 4 nights on the Wonder in a Cat 6 (cabin 6060) with a balcony. Yea me!!! Now, how was I going to spring it on the family? Again, this is where these boards come in so great. I found the “Pay if forward” thread and the really wonderful Dis’er, VerandaMan. VerandaMan graciously offered to send the family a postcard from Castaway Cay (from Mickey even) announcing that we would be cruising in April. (Thank you so much VerandaMan!) If this worked out, the card would come just in time for Mother’s day. Well timing isn’t everything and it was apparent that the postcard wasn’t going to make it, so I had to improvise. I created my own card using various pictures and graphics, gleamed from this and a couple other boards. I made my own Mother’s Day card and surprised not only DW, but DS’s with a big announcement that we would be on the big vacation next year. Yea Dad ROCKS!!! party: VerandaMan’s card came later, with a great Mickey signature, we used this card as our “official” notice that we would be cruising.

Before we get to April 2007 (and I promise that we will), we had to get through the rest of 2006. For a while, I thought that it might not actually happen. First, in May right after my Mother’s day announcement, we rushed DW to the hospital and into emergency surgery. Things were pretty serious for a while (make “those” arrangements type serious) and for a while, we had a tough time, but with some faith and quite possibly some magic things turned around. Then, one late night in June, the phone rang. It was one of those calls that we all know that it will be bad when you pick it up. It was. It was my mother’s nursing home calling to let me know that she had passed away. She had been sick for a long time, and while she was finally at peace, this was still a very hard thing for us to deal with. As an only child, all arrangements fell on me to complete and resolve. Thankfully, I had planned for this for sometime, and everything executed just as planned. But I was still shaken pretty badly. I thought I had braced myself for this, but really I don’t think anyone is really ready for the passing of a parent. While things recovered slowly, August rolled around, and it was time to pay off the cruise with my bonus. I felt really great when I pulled up my spreadsheet every month and recorded my payments. August 15th was bonus day, and I was all set to make the last payoff. That is, until I met with my boss and got my yearly evaluation. I was stunned and shocked to find out that my boss didn’t think much of the job that I had done. :furious: She became my boss in January as I was planning our trip and we never really communicated all that much. In our weekly meetings she never seemed interested in what I was doing, my projects or me in general. However, I was getting tons of support from my peer managers and my direct reports. I felt that everything was just fine up to the time we met. Needless to say my bonus came in way shorter than I had expected. This put the magical journey so carefully planned, in major jeopardy. After all that had happened in the previous months, the thought of cancelling this trip really had me sick beyond words. Of all the things that had happened this year, the one thing that made it mostly tolerable was thinking about this vacation and what it meant to me and to the family. Determined as Elwood P. Dowd, I vowed to make this right. I would find a way to pay this thing off, and not take money out of our savings to do it. I continued to brown bag lunch. I sold a collection of old books that I had from a long time back. I found a job at local grocery and moonlighted at night until I had made up the difference. Mission accomplished!! Our trip is paid for!!!! :woohoo:

Oh and one last major life altering event, before we close….Two days before Christmas, I fired my boss. After 16 years with the same company, I was done. Basically I told her exactly what I thought, that she didn’t value the job I did or me as a person. The conversation then turned personal, but end the end, I felt really okay about it. On January 15th, I walked out the front door of the company, and haven’t looked back!

So there we are sportsfans! Tomorrow we board our flight, and head to the World, then to the Cruise. We even tacked a few extra days in to cover Sea World and some time at Universal as the kids are starting to get big enough to go. I hope that I haven’t bored anyone with this little tome. I hope you, as I do, feel sometimes that how and why behind a story is equally as interesting as the main course. I will do my best to capture the essence of our trip, the highs and the lows, the good and the bad. All wrapped up in the magic of Walt and sprinkled with that magic dust that only a true believer can have.

See you real soon!!

Yay...another TR! Starting off wonderful too!

Your pre-trip report brought tears to my eyes, J-lat.

Wishing you and your family a WONDERful vacation, with fair winds and calm seas.

I can't wait to hear/read about it....the kids do grow up fast but at 20 my daughter still is all about Disney.

Well….we got back last Sunday night, and boy are we were all so very tired. It’s been a busy week of catch up, so I am just now filing the TR. I got to say though this was one very memorable, very magical trip. Everything went exactly to plan, and everything was just wonderful. I just got through downloading 350 pictures, and that doesn’t include 2 disposables worth that used at the Dolphin encounter and when I left the digital camera in the hotel.

Thanks for all the kind comments on the pre-trip report. I hope that I don’t disappoint anyone with this part. If you want the 10 second review, the best way I can sum it up is….….AWESOME! (I bet you thought I was going to work Magical in there…..stay tuned.)

To keep with board etiquette I’ll split the reports into the Park/Resort report over on the other forum:

And the Cruise report detailed here. (I'll post some picts too when I figure that out)

If you read the pre trip, I won’t recap many of the details. This was a special anniversary trip based on the wedding trip the DW and I took in October 1997 (Disney and Bahamas). This time, we had our two beautiful princesses with us (DD1=7 years and DD2=6 years). The last 12 months have been very interesting to say the least and we all as a family could have used an extra dose of magic and pixie dust to lift spirits and reconnect us as a family. Our expectations were met 10 fold from the time we arrived on the ground at MCO, until we exited our FL Tours car upon our return to MCO on the last night.

We booked this trip as a 3 day land and 4 night cruise through Dreams Unlimited. I said in my pre-trip that I probably wouldn’t do this again, however doing the Land and Sea trip does have its unexpected perks. For example, we never touched our luggage from the time we left our home airport, until we set them out in the hall the night before disembarking. Even though we only used the Magical Express for transportation to the Polynesian, Disney still picked up our luggage early Sunday morning to transport it to the ship. This was unexpected and I asked the bell guy several times, was he sure that he was supposed to take our luggage? Hey, I didn’t want my under-roos hijacked if you know what I mean. He assured me, that he does this all the time and that everything was a-okay.

At about 10:30 on Easter Sunday morning, we headed down to the lobby at the Poly and met Ty, our driver from FL Tours. Since there was no luggage to load, we were quickly on our way. As many of you know the drive out to the port is pretty boring, but Ty and I had a good conversation going, so time passed fairly quickly. A bit faster than watching paint dry or standing in the non-fast pass line to ride the Winnie the Pooh ride, but only barely. After a while, we cleared the hills and started to see the tops of the ships. First, there was the unmistakable stack on one of the Carnival ships, and then, there it was, the Wonder. I swear I heard the tinkling of pixie dust as the ship came into view. The back seat princesses suddenly got it. “We are going on THAT big boat daddy?” Yep, kiddos that’s the place. “Look Daddy, Donald is painting the back of the boat!!” There was a lot of silence, then a whole lot of whooping going on the in back. Ty maneuvered through the various gates and turns and pulled up to the curb. We exited, shook Ty’s hand and headed off. Note here about FL Tours - I liked the service just fine, but I think I would do some shopping around for a better price. After I booked the deal with them, the called me while we were at MGM, to let me know that since I was returning to the Royal Pacific Resort, and not a Disney resort, the price would go up $30. Now this trip was booked (and confirmed) over a year ago and they have know all this time that we were not coming back to the Poly, but were going to RPR instead so….why they are upping the price now, I am not sure. However, I wasn’t going to let that really spoil the trip, and just marked it down as a reminder not to book them in the future without doing some extra shopping, and to make sure that I noted here on this TR. By upping the price, they were exactly the same as using Disney for transportation, so I don’t know if there were any real significant gains here.

We dropped our backpacks, except for DW’s, with a porter and moved on to Security. For some reason that we still can’t figure out I set off the alarm. I do this from time to time at airports, but we haven’t been able to figure out why. DW thinks it is my magnetic personality. So I have to step to the side and get the wand treatment. DD 1 thinks this is a fun thing and insists on getting the wand as well. The security lady with the wand was happy to oblige and waved it over DD 1 She also let us know, that the day before, they had a 4 hour lock down due to a suspicious package in someone’s luggage. A small package wrapped in aluminum foil, caused one of the security dogs to sit down. Another dog was brought in and it sat down as well. This caused a full lock down of the terminal for 4 hours. The package turned out to be some chocolate.

After security, we headed upstairs. Since I didn’t think that it was a big deal to be the first on the ship, we didn’t really try hard to be that early. A very nice man verified that we had a) checked in online, b) checked in at the Poly. He gave us boarding card #4. The terminal was busy but not packed. Folks had already started queue up at the big ears. After a quick potty stop for the crew, DD 2 and I headed over to the kids club registration. That line moved somewhat slowly and boarding for cards 1 and 2 started while we were in line. When it was finally our turn, the castmate doing the registration, needed to see both princesses, since they got their wrist bands there. (Note here, you can do the registration on board, but it is just about as easy to do it in the terminal, if you aren’t in a big hurry to get on board.) Yikes!!! .DW and DD1 were no where to be found as they were walking around looking at things in the terminal. The castmate was just super and said, go get her, and bring here right back here. Don’t even worry about standing in line. She was my first hero of the day!!! After wristbands, they were calling cards 6 and 7 so off we go. By now, I was doing the big cruise dance BIG TIME. When we got to the place were we give them our Keys to the World. Wouldn’t you know…the DW’s cards (DW, DD1 and DD2) do not work!! This is now a trend as she had them go bad on her at the Poly as well. It was just like me setting off the security alarms. Disney has this covered, without a blink, after a side trip into a small area to get new cards made, we were back in line toward embarkation photos. As we waited our turn, there was a family was across the gangway in the other photo line. The mom in this line was visibly irritated about something and kept asking if these pictures were “mandatory”. Now, if the photographer really understood the woman, she could have easily waived them through and saved herself a ton of grief, but I suspect that she didn’t understand the word mandatory. She kept pushing them back in front of the backdrop. The woman, was just about to toss a rod as she threw her documentation to the floor and smiled extremely sarcastically at the camera. When the photographer wanted to shoot just her kids, she snapped a big old NO and moved her crew off the backdrop. Wow, so much drama, and we haven’t even gotten on the boat yet. I hope she got some rest….

On up to the doorway and they get our name for the announcement. It was then I truly understood everything that I had read on this and other boards. I totally got it… Sixteen month of planning, a serious health scare, death of a loved one, two jobs then sudden unemployment, it didn’t matter…it just didn’t matter. Lots of crew about in dressed in their finest. All applauding US!! All of them with Easter baskets full of goodies for the kids. This was a big concern with DD 2, that possibly the Easter Bunny wasn’t going to find her. More on that in a bit.

A castmate was pushing everyone to deck 9 to Beach Blanket Buffet, but we stayed the course and went to Parrott Cay. Not much of a crowd there, and that’s something that I really noticed just about every where. Even though the cruise was totally full, the boat didn’t seem at all crowded. (Except at the pools). The ship really accommodates the crowd very well. After a yummy buffet lunch including an Ice Cream Sundae for DW 1, we did some exploring. We found the Oceaneer’s Club, the theatres, canceled our Palo’s brunch reservation (we had a dinner res on the same day also) and walked out to the pools for some swim time for the girls. The pools weren’t quite full yet, but were getting there. The girls were in heaven. Even though we have a pool at home and they swim all the time, I think that they would have been very content to swim the entire cruise. Mentioned here often, the pools and the pool area are very small. People reserve seats by throwing towels and gear on the seats and then disappear. I watched a good spot go vacant for over an hour before someone finally moved a towel off the seat and sat down. I also had my chair taken as I went to check on the princesses to make sure they had on enough sun screen. Someone just took the chair right from my table. After a bit, it was time to check out our state room. We were on deck 6, room 6060. A very nice room, midship, with a great veranda (we will discuss that too in a bit) and huge bed. I was just a bit concerned that it was too close to the elevators, but it was never an issue. As we opened up the door, there were two huge Easter baskets courtesy of Mickey and the Easter Bunny (thanks Shirley at Perfect Gift). The girls were totally surprised, especially our younger princess, who was, like I said really worried that the Easter Bunny wouldn’t find her. Shirley had assembled 2 large sand buckets, personalized with their names and with games, Easter candy, more sand toys and 6 bottles of water each. This was great and the water came in really handy during the cruise.

The bathrooms are as tiny as described here on the boards. I am not sure how anyone could take a tub batch in one of those tea cup tubs. It very much reminded me of the small bathrooms you see in small European hotels. A tiny, but an efficient use of space. Nice shelf under the sinks for storing stuff. Having it split was nice though. We also had the steamer trunk for storage and a good size closet area. DW was able to unload all our gear (and we had a lot), and we never really ran out of space. Our suit cases however would not fit under the beds no matter how we tried. Even picking up the bed didn’t help. I walked out on the veranda, and was able to see the Vehicle Assembly Building over at Cape Canaveral. I seemed to be the only one really impressed by that as the princesses were in the process of ripping open their Easter baskets.

We met our Stateroom host, I.K from Indonesia. He was very nice, and took great care of us. We also found out our dinning rotation since we didn’t have it on our Keys from the Poly. We had the 8:00 pm seating at Triton’s – AP – AP (for Pirate night) and Parrot Cay. We wouldn’t be at Parrot Cay since Palo would be on our last night. So our lunch today and our disembarkation breakfast would have to suffice for that experience. After a bit of rest and checking the beds for various bugs and other vermin as reported on this board, it was time for the lifeboat drill. They really should supply double shot alcoholic drinks for that. Aaron was our leader and he was pretty funny and made time go by pretty quickly. He’s also part of the show cast, and made sure we waived to him during the show. He even took our picture for us. It turned out to be one of our better shots family shots… (More to come on our photo challenges).

We returned to the cabin to stow the life vests, and get ready for the sail away party. By the time we get up to deck 9 things were getting pretty crowded. We found a good spot right near stage, by the steps where the characters and crew come down from deck ten. Lots of energy and bad dance steps all around here. Our cruise director Darren made welcoming introductions, and various crew members were showing off some of their best dance moves (I guess). They gave away a couple of cruise backpacks which was nice. This also where we first were introduced to, what became our favorite castemate Lucy Jo. I think there is another trip report that mentions seeing a castmate over and over again during a cruise. This, in our case, was Lucy Jo. Eventually we would get to meet her and she was a delightful young girl from England. Unfortunately, not much of a dancer, but very energetic and a very sweet girl. In all, we must have had at least a dozen Lucy Jo sightings during all hours of the 4 day cruise. The girl definitely got around. The sail away party was fine, not as energetic as I had expected, but still pretty cool.

We went up on Deck 10 and waved at everyone that was on shore as the Capitan blew the magic Mickey horn. I then knew that we had gotten underway and all was going to be just fine. It’s a great way to start a vacation!! We did several laps around deck 10. Up front as moved up through the channel, it seemed like we were moving at light speed. It’s a great spot to really get the feel of the power of the ship. We followed Carnival’s sensation out of the harbor and out to sea, then it was a straight run to Nassau and more adventure.

After the party, I had scheduled my massage of the trip. A little bit early, but I really wanted to get the relaxation started. The Vista Spa on the Wonder was outstanding. On par with many hotel spas that I have used in the past. I was escorted promptly to the men’s lounge, where you are given a locker key and a place to change into your robe and rubber flip flops. You can stretch out on a couple of loungers until your masseuse is ready for you. I had Neeta from the Philippines. At the moment that she shook my hand, I knew this was going to be a great experience. Off to a massage room we go, and after a quick conversation on any medical issues (none), stress points (several), it was time to get started. Neeta was excellent. She kneaded with her elbows (I like that) major stress areas then finished up with some good technique on my calves and ankles. Unfortunately the time went by too fast. Overall it was one of the better massages that I have had. Not better than the person I see regularly, but she knows how to hit the spots in the right order. For a first time session it was above average, albeit a bit on the pricey side ($109 not including tip.). After a shower in the spa, I was ready to hook up with the family. We did some additional exploring and caught up with Cinderella, Belle and Snow White in the atrium. We had problems with character meetings all through the trip for some reason. The meeting times were clearly posted in both our Navigator and on the LCD screens in the Atrium, but for some reason we would always be someplace else or on the way to someplace. However, we did really well with Cinderella, Belle and Snow White though, both were in excellent form and lines move really quickly. I wish they would use some of that same systematic technique in the parks. You hand you autograph book to a character, she signs it, hands it to a cast mate, pictures (with the photographer, then with you personal camera, pick up your books, take small children by the hand and you are done!. Also they would guestimate how many people they could get through the line to see a character during the amount of time they had , then position a cast mate at the end of the line in that spot. The cast mate would waive off anyone that tried to line up after her. This made it really clear if you were going to get time with the character or not. Also the lines were much more tame and civilized here than during a character meal or when meeting a character in the parks. Only mild pushing of their kids to the front, and I only had one mommy trying to sneak her kids past us.

They were also doing the white background portraits. This was something that I wanted to get done with the princesses. We’ll discuss this comedy in a future installment. In the atrium, for some reason, you could really feel the ship moving. This was the first time since we were up on Deck 10, we felt the ship, and was one of the few times during the whole trip that we felt the ship move.

Since we were going to skip the opening (the Ventriloquist guy) show we had some time to kill before dinner, DD 2 wanted do some Bingo (she had heard the 1st in room announcements). Off to Wavebands we go for a few cards of bingo. So who did we run into..yep, Lucy Jo was helping run the Bingo! We played a few cards…okay we played $60 worth. Didn’t come close to winning, but hey, we are on vacation, so who cares. It was time to head back to the cabin and get ready for dinner.

Lets see.fast recap....we’ve been on the boat about 6 hours, we’ve had a big lunch, kids have been swimming, we’ve done laps around the ship. Watched some really bad dancing by cast mates, waved at people at Port Canaveral, gotten a massage, had a few boat drinks, met Cinderella, Belle and Snow White and played a few rounds of bingo with a young lady that I would end up seeing more than my closest distant relative…all before dinner….how cool is that….

Before dinner, I was going to try and get the girls portrait done on the white background, since they were really nicely dressed. Unfortunately the line was huge and we didn’t want to be late for dinner. Again another foiled photo opportunity. This was beginning to be a trend.

Dinner was at Triton’s. I really liked the layout of the restaurant, but we had table 44 which was a bit of a crummy spot. Near the service entrance, it was a lot of motion. At Animators’ Palette and at Parrott Cay, table 44 was really in good spots, but not here. We met our serving team, of Chintenna from Thailand, and Jan from Peru. Chintenna was very business efficient and businesslike, but very personable after she warmed up a bit. Jan however basically was hard to find most of the time. Neither server provided the “over the top” service that you read about here, and that I was seeing at other tables, but for us, it was just right. Eric (France) was our head server. I know that head server’s get a bad rap here, but Eric was a pretty decent guy and came by often to make sure everything was all right. We never got the “Excellent” speech, just genuine interest that we were getting what we needed and the everything met our expectations. We also met our tablemates. A great family from California. Their young daughter was the same age as our youngest and before long they were playing around the table like best friends. DD 2 has never met a stranger and I am sure she will have a great career in public relations or politics. Although their son seemed bored at times, they were great and we had a great time. The menu at Triton’s is French (very Americanized, French though). I opened with the Shrimp Medley, then the Normandy salad and then the Coquille St. Jacques,. DW had the Escargot and the Beef Tenderloin. Everything was just great. Most likely the wife’s steak was a bit better. Since the DW’s health issues of last year, she hasn’t been able to eat a full meal. Since she only ate half of her dinner, this caused Chintenna a lot of concern, but after we explained, she was okay and even offered to bring half portions. I vetoed that since I usually finished off what the wife couldn’t. Eric stopped by to see if we needed something made special. For desert I had the White Chocolate Domes and the wife had the Crème Brulee. I’m not a Crème Brulee fan, so I didn’t try her’s. The Domes were good, but not as good as Boma’s at Animal Kingdom.

It had been a long day, but a very fun day. We bid our tablemates goodnight, and headed up to the cabin. IK and made up the room for up, with our first towel animal and a supply of Easter candy. The girls were very excited to see that they would be sleeping in bunk beds. We rotated the sleeping so each girl got 2 nights in the upper bunk. It didn’t take long to get them in their jammies and into bed.

Before we all went to sleep, I wanted to get some air from the veranda. Hmm the door however would not open. Now these doors are subject to quite a bit of discussion, but I had opened the darn thing earlier in the day when we left port. No matter what I did, no matter what direction I flipped the handle or turned the knobby thingy it would not open. Determined, I first checked the hallway to see if IK was lurking about, then called stateroom services. They explained that it was a sliding door (like they answer this question about 200 times a day). Yes, I am aware of that, I had it open earlier. They agreed to send someone up and in about 3 minutes, someone knocked on the door. Talk about great service. At the door were not one, but two attendants to come open the door. The attendant walked in, tugged the door twice and it opened. I swear I heard the person at stateroom services laugh hysterically. I could not believe it, I literally was standing on my head to open the thing and a little bitty guy comes in and tugs it open like it was nothing. After a couple of embarrassed apologies, we closed shop for the night. After getting everyone to bed, the DW and I settled in. You could really feel the boat rocking as we headed south towards Nassau. Wasn’t long before everyone was fast asleep!

Next up Nassau Day and the Door part deux!

Ahh Nassau..we were awaken by the blast of the Mickey horn. After yesterday’s activities no one was ready to hit the deck early, but we are in Nassau ya’ll! Today we swim with dolphins! Okay we encounter dolphins but you get the idea. :cool1: I climbed out of bed over a very sleeping DW to go out to the veranda to check out the port. Everyone slept pretty well during the night, but the boat did do a far amount of rocking. The room squeeks when that happens, but I only woke up once. Well, I go to throw open the door and of course the #@$%@ thing isn’t working again! We are in Nassau, I want to see it from my veranda. I paid for a veranda and I want to USE IT. Not just peer through the obstinate piece of glass. Okay so the port at Nassau (and Nassau in general) isn’t anything to get all worked up about, but hey! We are here and as far as I’m concerned, it’s the best place to be right now. That is if I could get the @#$#$ door open. Another call to Stateroom Services…”.yessir, it’s a sliding door, you have to pull the handle down”….Errr. After another round of door orientation, Stateroom Services agrees to dispatch someone to “show me how to open it” (I swear it is exactly what she said). In the meantime it was time to get the troops moving. DD2 was up and ready, so we left DW and DD1 to get ready and we headed up to deck 9 for some buffet. Beach Blanket Buffet is really good with lots of choices. I got DD2 set up and headed over to the omlet station and placed an order. We found a seat outside under the awnings. It was a little bit cool and overcast which I thought might cause a bit of a problem today. We finished breakfast as DW and DD1 were just coming though the buffet, so I took DD2 down to Shutters to look for our pictures and then over to Micky Mates and Treasure Ketch for a look around. We had to meet at WaveBands shortly to start our excursion. We all hooked up in front of WaveBands. Make sure if you go on any excursion, you have your tickets. If not, you will be sent off to get them. Wavebands was pretty full as we entered and found a seat. And who would be helping organizing things. Yes, our now favorite cast mate Lucy Jo all bright and perky early in the morning. The Dolphin excursion was pretty popular as there were about 125 people in the club by the time we got ready to go. Basically you had to make sure you had your tickets and wavier before coming into the club. The wavier basically stated Disney was off the hook if the Dolphins decided to do something rude, or if the tender boat went for a dive etc. But if you didn’t have it, you either had to fill out one, and incur the wrath of Lucy Jo’s partner in crime (Kim this time I think). If you didn’t have your tickets, you had to go get them. After standing in line to turn in the form, you got a Simba sticker (encounter’s and swimmers) or an Ariel sticker (observers). Then you moved over to another line which is run by the Dolphin Encounter people to get a wrist band and turn in your tickets. While this seems complicated Kim and Lucy Jo did a good job of keeping everything happy and light. I loved it when a lady in front of me in the wristband line didn’t have her tickets. She said she had sent her daughter to get them. Kim, didn’t hesitate to have a bit of fun with the lady and send her to the back of the line until her daughter returned with the tickets. I love it when people who think that they can circumvent the rules, get what’s coming to them. After getting everyone a wristband and a towel, we headed downstairs like a pack of cats to the dock. Lucy and Kim escorted us down to the dock, but then handed us off to the Dolphin Encounter people. We moved down the docks, past the two Bahamian Navy ships (they need to get those squared away big time), then through the little immigration/mall area, then over to the docks that had the ferry that took us over to the Blue Lagoon/Dolphin Encounter. It is about a 7-8 minute stroll over. There were some street vendors selling ice cold water for $1 per bottle. We picked up a couple since DW had left ours back in the cabin. We hopped aboard the boat and headed off. We made one stop near Atlantis to pick up hotel and pedestrians. Soon we were off. Its about a 35-40 minute ride one way to over to the Encounter, and the weather was starting to clear up some. We arrived at the Encounter as another group was finishing up. The encounter is next to the Blue Lagoon beach area. The area looked really clean, but there was no one there. It didn’t look like it was operating. It would have been nice to go over to the beach after the excursion. The first thing that happens after you get off the boat is that you are taken to a large outdoor classroom to learn about Dolphins and what happens during the encounter. You can also upgrade to the full swim if you want. Our “instructor” was a nice guy and made everyone comfortable as he went through what you should and shouldn’t do during the excursion. He stressed that the dolphins are well cared for, and that the staff did everything possible to ensure the safety of the dolphins and of course, of customers. He even mentioned that the dolphins get regular days off. They also have some baby dolphins that were recently born as well as some sea lions that they adopted. After his talk, we moved down to the excursion area. There are lockers and bathroom to change into. You should not bring a video camera into the excursion area as you will get wet. We brought one of those disposable waterproof cameras that worked pretty well. I might in the future look into getting a waterproof enclosure for our camera, as the disposable didn’t really do that great of job picture wise. We were sent in groups to two separate encounter platforms for our sessions with the dolphins. Each platform is encircled by a dock/seating area. Our dolphin was Andy and our trainer was Ike. At first we all got into the platform area for family group shots with Andy. Each segment of the encounter gets photographed and video taped as well as any pictures you want to take. The water was pretty cold but you get used to it pretty quick. DW wasn’t too happy having to get in up to her chest though. After group family shots, we get back out of the water and each family gets a turn individually. You get to pet the top and belly of the dolphin, you get to take a close look at his teeth. You get to feed him, and then you get a “kiss shot”. Lastly, “have” to dance with him. This is somewhat embarrassing, but in good fun. If you don’t do well at dancing, Ike and Andy let you know about it. :rotfl: We were very lucky. We were the last family on the platform to do the encounter, so we got the whole platform to ourselves. Meaning, we didn’t have to do much of anything embarrassing in front of people we might see later. :thumbsup2 DD1 was got a bit scared, when it came for her turn to dance and didn’t want to do it. Ike was really good, and sent Andy off to get DD a present. He came back with a rock from the bottom of the lagoon. This made DD feel better but she still wouldn’t dance. I think it was because Andy liked to chatter while he discoed, and it really made DD nervous. Since everyone was back at the locker area and Ike didn’t seem to be in much of a hurry, we got lots of extra time with Andy. DD2 also go a rock and each girl got to feed him several more times. We thanked Ike for the time and Andy and moved up to get our shoes, towels and gear. In true Disney tradition, all roads end at the gift shop and nothing different here. Our pictures and video had not gotten up on the boards yet since we were last off the platform. So we took the girls to get a snack, bio break and shop. There’s a nice, but small picnic area under the palm trees that overlooks the lagoon. We also walked behind the encounter area to visit the baby dolphins and watch some training going on. After getting our picture package and video (you get to view the video before buying it.) we headed out. Ours was pretty comical, especially me doing the Cabbage Patch with old Disco Andy. DW wanted to make sure it didn’t end up on You Tube, so we bought it. She can’t wait until our Family Christmas to pull it out and show it to all our relatives…..:happytv:

The Dolphin Encounter was a very cool thing to do. Our girls were at the right age to do it and really got a big kick getting in the water with Andy. While it was on the pricey side, it was worth doing at least once. Except for DD1’s reluctance to dance, everything was really smooth. The Dolphin Encounter people handled everything really well. It was a great time!! We headed back to the ship, dropped off the hotel and pedestrians passengers and returned to the docks. Disney even had a towel drop beside the Dolphin Encounter boat so you could drop towels without having to go back to the ship. We decided to check the kids into the Oceaneer’s Club and go back into Nassau for some “adult time”. Basically the wife wanted to shop the strawmarket. The Club was assembled in Wavebands doing some Disney trivia, so we dropped the kids there and headed back out. After a stop at the Starbucks (wife’s caffine fix) we did couple of turns through the market and the surrounding blocks. Since it was Easter Monday, a few shops were closed. We were still able to pick up a few things and head back. We wanted to catch Hercules, The Muse-ical tonight and we had to get showered and dressed. When we got back the girls had transitioned up to Beach Blanket for dinner. DD1 was content to stay and eat, but DD2 was not having a good time and was ready to go. Formal Mickey and Minnie were set up in the atrium so we stopped by to meet them. Unfortunately DD2 was dressed in the clothes she came back from the Dolphin Encounter in so the pictures weren’t great but okay. Again we are character photo schedule challenged. We picked up DD1 from Beach Blanket and headed back to the cabin for showers. Tonight was “dress up” night, the 4 night cruise version of formal night. We saw several folks in pretty formal attire, but most were in either suits or nice jackets etc. Wouldn’t you know that they weren’t doing white background portraits that night. It was the ship and the ship rail backgrounds. ERRRRR. We got in line and got both sets done. The girls shots were great, :thumbsup2 the family shots were okay ;) and the shots of DW and I, well….:upsidedow lets just say the shots of the girls were GREAT!
After a round of pictures we headed over the Walt Disney Theater for the show. I was totally amazed at the theatre. It rivaled many small performance houses that I had been in. Great sightlines and good acoustics. DW1 who hates getting her picture taken, asked me to take her picture beside the big photo of Walt, it was an amazing picture. She absolutely knew that Walt created Mickey as she has several of the Draw Disney Character books and practices daily drawing Mickey, Minnie, Pooh and others. How could I deny such a request?

We found seats about 4 rows back in the middle. As soon as we settled in, a waiter came by to get our drink order. DW and I were just giddy to light the drinking lamp, so cocktails for us, and smoothies for the princesses. Yahoo, bring on the show!!popcorn::

I know that a lot of folks aren’t fans of the Hercules show, but I thought it was very cool. A little on the sassy side, but the music and the singing was really excellent. The girls loved it and we all had a great time.:dance3:

I have to say this about the folks on the Wonder that perform in the shows and perform as characters, they were simply amazing!! Every show was done extremely well. The characters at every meeting were spot on with their performance. Their costumes, hair and makeup just perfect, even first thing in the morning. These folks were very busy throughout the cruise, performing, being characters or assisting in character meets or even assisting people with questions or needs. We were totally impressed; as we saw Meg in Hercules, play Belle in the Golden Mickey’s and in Dreams. She also did all the Belle character meets AND read to the kids during Belle’s Story Time. Each time she was totally in character, with meticulous make up and hair and a smile that would light up the darkest day. The princesses and I had a big crush. Okay, so I had a big crush. She was cute what can I say.

After the show, it was time for dinner. Tonight it was Animator’s Palette. I didn’t let anyone in on the secret about the show. Our tablemates were at Palo, so it was just the 4 of us. Table 44 in Animators’ was much better than 44 in Tritons. We were at the end of the racetrack so we got a good view of the show and all that went on during dinner. For dinner I took Chintenna’s recommendations. Basically, I just said…feed me! And of course she was happy to oblige. I started with the Smoked Salmon parcel with baby spinach. The salmon was wrapped around a square of cream cheese. Chintenna thought it might be a bit heavy, but it was really very good. DW started with the wild garlic mushrooms. This was a neat dish of mushrooms in a puff pastry. The girls have fruit to start and DD2 had the Cheese Cannelloni. The kid’s menus are pretty much the same, however we encouraged the kids to try things off the regular menu. Unfortunately DD1 is such a picky eater; she totally would not eat anything that she absolutely did not recognize. The other thing is that neither are big sweet eaters and we could not get them ONCE to even try a dessert. Chintenna was totally amazed that neither kid asked for, or accepted her enticement for desserts. For entrée’s I had the bacon wrapped filet…nice, but not great. The wife had a veal dish that was not on the menu. Veal medallions with a tomato and white bean type of sauce. Very good, she got the winner that night. Desserts were Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie with 3 types of sauce and the wife had the chocolate cake. Who ever runs the pastry department for Disney (and the Wonder) should be commended. Every dessert or sweet snack, we ate during the vacation, was the absolute the best. :thumbsup2 As a fledging pastry chef (my new career), and can truly appreciate the effort and quality that went in the preparation of these desserts. Notice that I haven’t mentioned our assistant sever Jan. Well that’s because he was pretty invisible throughout the entire cruise until the disembarkation breakfast. Then he started to show some personality. :confused3 Eric, the head server stopped by a couple of times to make sure things were good, and to remind us to hang around for the show. We also chatted about his time on the Wonder and his career with Disney. (He started at Epcot at the French Pavilion) I found him really engaging and interesting. We also talked some about the new ships coming online. The new ships are a great interest to a lot of the crew and it seems that they know about as much as the public about what routes and ports the new ships will take.

:offtopic: Okay time for a rant here. There IS a dress code for meals in the main dinning room (albeit fairly relaxed). This does not mean that you have to wear a suit, tie, or even nice pants. However, wearing a sleeveless shirt, and providing those around you with a great view of hairy pits on a grown man, is NOT the most appetizing thing. Also, could ya leave the baseball caps back in the room too? I’m as causal as the next guy and had to do some digging to come up with a shirt that had buttons, but c’mon. Next time put on your best Jeff Gordon Tee and leave the Yankee’s hat in the room dude. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

After about an hour or so after our seating the show really starts. The room starts out in Black and White as you all know, and then slowly the colors are added to the pictures on the walls columns and lights change. The “show” is that all the servers suddenly disappear and comeback with full color vests they do a parade around the room, and then bring out the head chef for a bow. I was just a little under whelmed by all this. I thought there would be more to it. Everything I had read made it seem like a really magical thing, but in a way it was just….there.

After dinner and the show, we gave our good nights to Chintenna and to Eric (Jan was AWOL somewhere), and headed out side for a stroll around deck 4. Before we go there Captain Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Chip and Dale (my favorite suit characters) and co were doing a sit-down greeting in the atrium, so we stopped by there for some autographs and pictures. No formals this time, just a quick sign and snaps. Then out on the deck for some air. We tried to take a different route every night so that we always ended up outside somewhere. I dropped the family unit off at the room, then headed back to Diversions for a nite cap. On the way back, I ran into….you guessed it…Lucy Jo, this time dressed in a pretty whacked out ‘80’s disco outfit. It was 80’s night in Wavebands. I stopped in for another nite cap. How could I refuse the lovely Lucy Jo. Actually there wasn’t a lot going on in either Diversions (got a couple of ball scores) or Wavebands. So I headed back to the cabin for the night. GOOD NEWS!! IK and co had gotten the sliding door FIXED…YEA! I now could go outside and see…well the DARK! Small victories, ya’ll. :woohoo:

Next up heaven on an island called Castaway Key.

Wow, your Nassau itenerary (dolphins, kids in clubs, shopping) went exactly like ours, only a couple of weeks later. Cool!:cutie:
