In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

HELLO my lovelies!!!

Are you all sleeping off the hangovers this morning? :lmao: All but E, since she is a vampire!

I did drink wine and eat pizza but nothing like a buzz, sadly. I am glad you all had good virtual drinks!

I have been texting Kat and she is playing hockey this weekend! I'm soooo impressed with her! :thumbsup2 such hard work but great cross training!

Can you believe that in 6 weeks from now all of us doing the princess half will either be at WDW or packing to be there on Saturday? :goodvibes I can't believe it is coming up so fast and that an entire year has passed since the last one. OMG.

That kind of freaked me out! :scared1: But it will be good, right?

Jo - way to go and dig deep. Now relax. I'll be contrary and suggest an ice bath.

I did 8 miles in the snow this morning - streets, sidewalks, trail, all over the place. I wanted 10 but with all the high stepping felt as though I got a good workout. Pace was lousy, but that's okay.

Ronda

I LOVE  your kick a$$ dedication!

So, tell me why you suggest ice. I'm curious. I don't know a lot about heat versus cold, I only know that in acupuncture, we don't recommend ice, because it's counterproductive to what acu does. But why, I have no idea. :confused3 Some Chinese medicine thing. We see a lot of athletes, though. But if you're not doing acu, then that doesn't apply. School me! :goodvibes

Good luck on ur 5 Liz and EE

Thank you!!! I did my 5! WOOO!

So, tell me how your pacing is. Where are you now?

I really haven't read a lick since mid-week

I'll come back and catch up sometime I swear.

I really just don't have it in me emotionally or mentally right now. This has honestly been the worst week for me. I might be ready to talk about it a bit after the dust settles.

Until then I don't want to bring everyone down so I came to report the only shred of good news in my life right now:

I lost a pound since last weigh-in. It's only a pound, but hey, a pound is a pound...:upsidedow

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

A pound is great!!! Heck, I GAIN lie 5lbs on bad weeks!

Also, this is not the happily ever after thread. It's not the always sunny thread. And it sure as heck isn't the my life is perfect thread. You cannot bring us down. You don't have to share, but if you want to, bringing us down is not a concern.

Had a nice weekend! Dinner with inlaws Friday night, errands and family time yesterday, then went to our neighbors and played Just Dance! And drank wine!

Today I did five miles OUTSIDE with my neighbor. It was awesome. Also, Nike +? Didn't work because I didn't have the chip in. :sad2: Silly Liz! I am so becoming Amish!!! :rotfl:

Good Afternoon!

Got my 5 miles in early this morning (7am yikes!), had breakfast, and now I can't breathe. I don't want to get sick. Aghh!

Good Afternoon!

Lots of Vitamin C!!! I swear zinc works, too!

How was your 5? Tell us!

We averaged 16 minutes per mile and it was really easy. We were bundled up, so the weather didn't bother us. I all over the zinc & vitamin C drops (and hot tea!!!!).

Happy Sunday All

Liz, EE, Congrats on your five miles

My pace is about 15 m/m 10 miles = 2:40

Cathie, hows the new meds for your tummy? Are they still making you sick?
Hugs to you:hug::hug:

Kat, hows your shin after hocky

Amy how do you feel after drinking? Hope JCash did not get up too early.

Nancy, HA HA, I am asking you again,
Whats a core workout?
Pulled Pork CrocPot receipe?
What to eat before and after the race?

Is there an after party??

I am getting so excited for this race and my trip.

Meg, how are you? Did you go see the boy this weekend?

Lisa, Ronda, Kelly, Rob, E Happy Sunday

The girls had a birthday to go to this morning, but we had to rush home to see the Bears Game, OMG my DH has issues, he's a HUGE Steelers Fan, so no one was allowed near him last night, and now he is just on edge of the sofa. The girls are laughing at him.!!

We throwdown at Jellyrolls Jo!!! Tiara, bling, and all. Post-race - I was famished, so I at like a pig and didn't care at all.

Hi! Popping in quick reply - Jo, I will email you pre and post race stuff ASAP! Hopefully tonight.

EE, GREAT! :cool1:

I did the first two miles run/walk then slowed down for the last 3. Did it under 16 mins but not much...so loving the Nike run plus for this! I am going to work on the run/walk combos during the 3 miles during the week and then just work on endurance for the longer walks. I'll pick one long walk to do at race pace. I know I got fast quickly last year so I should do it this year, too. Anyway, felt great about the 5 miles and it was outside. Okay, crazy endorphin high. Must go parent and bounce off walls! :rotfl:

Liz - I take an ice bath after runs over 10 miles. Theory is reduce bloodflow = reduce inflammation = reduce soreness = reduce sanity.

RunnersWorld said:
Cryotherapy ("cold therapy") constricts blood vessels and decreases metabolic activity, which reduces swelling and tissue breakdown. Once the skin is no longer in contact with the cold source, the underlying tissues warm up, causing a return of faster blood flow, which helps return the byproducts of cellular breakdown to the lymph system for efficient recycling by the body. "Ice baths don't only suppress inflammation, but help to flush harmful metabolic debris out of your muscles," says David Terry, M.D., an ultrarunner who has finished both the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run and the Wasatch Front 100-Mile Endurance Run 10 consecutive times
It does help me with soreness. I've used ice in the past, but am going to stick with just the cold spigot for a while. I have to prop my feet up to get my toes out of the water. They turn blue and "that's not good" (said in the voice of Dr Seeker from Dinosaur).

If you google them there's scant scientific support, but lots of fervent ice bathers swear by them. I expect to have them weekly for a few months as I ramp up to the St Louis marathon. I'll give updates ; )

360 Miles DONE! :thumbsup2

Really. 360. But it was driving. Seth had to go back to school today ;)

on the way home, all by myself, I was admiring the beautiful snow covered landscape when I passed a car with a Maine lisence plate. For whatever reason the "snow stick" popped into my head and I started laughing right out loud. Alone. It was great :rotfl2:

WORD!

Today I did five miles OUTSIDE with my neighbor. It was awesome. Also, Nike +? Didn't work because I didn't have the chip in. :sad2: Silly Liz! I am so becoming Amish!!! :rotfl:

I'm sorry! It must have rubbed off of me and onto you! Give it back to me. (the Amish that is) I'm used to it

:woohoo: nice Liz!

Ronda - interesting on the ice stuff. There's absolutely no way I could do that though. I have reynauds & just can't get cold like that.

Ronda, Wow, I don't think I could ever take and ice bath, however, after a long run I do ice my knees, but after yesterday I did not have to and I feel good today, I just did elliptical for 30 mins ( level 10 for 5 min, 9 for 5 mins, 8 for 5 mins, the level 5 for 5min, 4 for 5, and 3 for 5, the push ups..

Nancy, I had to read the start of your post twice, sorry Seth could not get a ride with the neighbor and save you the drive.

5 miles done today too! It went well! Pushed D in the jogger for almost 4 of them and then finished on the TM. It went well. :goodvibes I did put my feet/lower legs in our ICE cold pool. :scared1:Usually I wouldn't until I hit 9 or 10 but I figured it couldn't hurt.

Not hungover. :thumbsup2 I quit drinking early, and drank water so I was fine. probably slightly underhydrated for my wog but it was ok. I actually got up at 7, fed J cash, and then we went off to meet a friend for coffee and a bagel, while Glenn and D slept in. Then I did my wog after.

A good day all around here. We also went to get strawberries and we took D to the park. Glenn just made a fire in our fire bowl so I am about to go hang outside for a bit. :goodvibes

ok Jo. Question #1 (maybe it wasn't actually your #1 question, but it's the one I'm answering first)

Pulled pork. I use a Tyler Florence recipe for the rub: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/pulled-pork-barbecue-recipe/index.html

I usually make the bbq sauce as well, but it doesn't always work out that way. I often use Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ sauce mixed with the pan drippings (& chicken broth if necessary to get the desired consistancy). Easy and yum.:thumbsup2

Core workout. I think you are asking what that means. If I misunderstood, please correct me!

Your "core" is basically all those muscles that stabilize your body for all those activities in life. Abs, obliques, lower back, and some would include glutes as well. So, a "core workout" would focus on these areas which are so, so important to, well, everything!:goodvibes

Meg, how are you? Did you go see the boy this weekend?

I'm good Jo! I'm at home this weekend. We have a stretch of two weeks where we wont see each other then I'm heading up to Vermont at 4 on my last day of work and will stay there as long as I want. The boy wants to spend a whole week together. When we get to Disney I might need to fill you in on a lot more. In fact you might need to shut me up, I can't help but gush about him. (Heck I might just email you more details at some point tonight or tomorrow.) Did I mention I forwarded him the last email about the race and he read every word?!

So ladies today I went to target and in the dollar section they had pink headbands with crowns on like springs on it. Think of all those holiday headband type deals only this had crowns. I got one to bring down, when I'll wear it I'm not sure but it was calling me. (I also bought $1 stretch gloves in case I want to bring them on race morning.)

I did 5 miles yesterday and felt great. I needed one really solid run to get my motivation back, that was it. I've heard all the talk about throw away clothes. I'm weird... it takes a lot for me to feel the extremities in weather. Do you all wear throw away clothes there?
