In search of my body...not the one I ate!

Well, I was terrible last night. I did really well all day and then blew it!! I had veggie crisps which in and of itself isn't too bad except I ate almost the entire bag :scared1:. I also had half of an eggplant and mozzarella pannini that had way too many calories. I was supposed to just get salad but I caved.

Today is a new day AND my handy dandy Food & Exercise journal arrived yesterday. It is small enough to keep in my purse and I can track calories, fat, carbs, exercise and water. It is from calorie King and was $3.99. Here is the link if you are interested: http://www.amazon.com/Calorie-King-Food-Exercise-Journal/dp/1930448155/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201621585&sr=8-1

So far today I have had oatmeal, blueberries and coffee with cream (though it pained me to do so, I also counted the cream).

Have a good day!!!

You are right...all you can do is put yesterday behind you and start again today! I can't remember....are you doing a specific program? Or are you just trying to watch what you eat and make good choices?

Here's a question I could use everyone's input on...

I have been doing South Beach and am doing well. I am past all of the carb cravings, am losing weight, etc. But I am B-O-R-E-D with the food. I have a good friend who started SB with me, but she has bagged it and gone with Weight Watchers. She (lovingly) taunts me on the phone when she is having her "ice cream treat" for the day...or that she had toast for breakfast, etc. I have always avoid WW because I don't like the idea of counting...and having to figure out how many "points" every tiny thing you eat is worth. Constantly looking stuff up, etc. On the other hand, it definitely sounds like a better long-term lifestyle and solution.

Anyway, I am thinking of switching from SBD to WW. Do you think this will completely screw up my system and my body won't know what to do with this new nutrition program? All opinions welcome...

You could always try the Core program through WW...it's very similar to SouthBeach. It also can get boring, but then at that point you can switch to Flex. Check out their website and the descriptions of the plans.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and congratulations... It means so much to me to celebrate our victories (no matter how big or how small) with all of you...

I had tried SB for a time and while I like it, I missed my carbs... I realized that I couldn't go through life without ever eating bread again, it was just too hard... I think the key to any weight loss plan is to find one that works for you and your lifestyle. I had tried WW and agree, the tallying of points got to be a bit much, but I am not familiar with the new program so maybe it has gotten easier?

One thing to help fend off boredom is to keep introducing new foods to your diet. New tastes, textures, flavors, etc will help keep things interesting. When I was on SB, I loved eating spaghetti squash and mashed cauliflower as an alternative to pastas and potatoes... Maybe you can try that?

Paula

Congrats on the loss, Paula - that is great. Keep it up!!

I have good news, also. I weighed in this morning for BL challenge and lost 6.4 pounds!! And even better news - my blood sugar level has come down by 30 points! 30 more points and it will be normal - and I won't have to worry about taking any more medication or progressing to more problems from diabetes.

I do a low carb diet on ediets. My doctor suggested this, because the wheat-free diet I was doing on ediets was causing my blood sugars to be higher than they should be. Even though I wasn't eating sweets, the other starches (rice, potatoes, rice pasta, gluten-free bread) were raising my blood sugar level much too high. So even though it is difficult to eat gluten free, dairy free and as carb free as I can get, it is worth it to me to feel better and not have to take increasing amounts of medication (possibly even insulin shots) and suffer the complications of poorly controlled blood sugars in the future. Hopefully I will continue to lose weight well (with the training for the 5K at Disney in May three days a week and the cross training three days a week, I ought to lose something!) and this will bring my blood pressure down, since it is also a little too high right now. I get checked again in April - keep your fingers crossed that the levels come down where they should be!

Hope everybody has a great day!

Susan

WOW WOW WOW Susan! That is two big losses in a row! You are AMAZING!

I am a calorie counter (1200 per day). I did just order a book about Low Carb diets for vegetarians. I just want to see if it is doable for me. I am still on the fence.

My guess is that you may plateau or gain a bit at first when you add carbs back into your diet but I am sure it would be temporary until your body adjusted to the new food. My mom is on WW now and has lost 43lbs. She loves and says it really isn't as complicated as it seems.

I am starving today!!! UGGHHH!!

CHEERS :cheer2: to both Paula & Susan. Keep up the great job.

I have to agree with everyone else, you need more food and lot of water. A nice person on here reminded me of that and I believe it has kicked started my weightloss. Don't lose faith in yourself if will turn around :goodvibes Keep :yay: and the pound will catch up. We are all here for support :grouphug:

I would agree... you can't let the # of calories go too low otherwise your body thinks it is starving and will hold onto its reserves. That is why starvation type diets don't work over the long haul.

It sounds strange, but you have to eat in order to lose weight....

I am not starving myself... lol... I just felt really ill over the past couple days and thats all the food I could handle... i mean I ate 3 hot dogs on bread for dinner and had chips and because it was all lean stuff the total calorie count was like 410.... i couldn't eat any more... that doesn't include everything else i ate yesterday for lunch etc. lol...

I just don't really know how to add more calories to my diet without snacking all day which I am trying to break myself of...

I can understand about not wanting to eat while you are sick. That will get better in time.

Sounds like you need to add some fruits, veggies and some dairy to the mix to add bulk and to give you the vitamins and minerals that you need to function. I actually eat six times a day now where before I would eat three huge meals and snack on top of that. Here is my usual day:

- cereal and fruit for breakfast
- fruit for a snack
- lunch (usually a salad w/ some sort of lunch sized entre from JC w/ a calorie count of 300 calories+/-)
- a nutrient bar and another piece of fruit as an afternoon snack
- dinner (a JC entree' of about 300 calories, a serving of veggies and maybe a piece of bread or a small roll depending on my entree')
- evening JC snack (usually sweet and under 200 calories)

Basically, I eat every 200 - 400 calories every 3 - 4 hours and believe me, my stomach is looking for its food when that fourth hour rolls around... If I do get hungry in between, I snack on fresh veggies (red peppers or carrots if I want something sweet, celery if I am looking for crunchy, etc).

Hope this helps...

You could always try the Core program through WW...it's very similar to SouthBeach. It also can get boring, but then at that point you can switch to Flex. Check out their website and the descriptions of the plans.

I agree. I do WW (points) but Core is all about eating healthy, non processed food and only eating until you are comfortably full. What a great way to live, right?

I do points b/c I need to learn and relearn portion sizes. Also, i need to be accountable and I love tracking my points online. I know I sound like a sales person, but I am shocked by how much I love WW. I love being accountable. I love learning portion control and what makes me full. I love people clapping when I lose weight. I love eating what I love and not feeling guilty - there is no such thing as cheating. I love my weekly meeting and the support. I say try it - I have tried to go it alone, lost 30lbs, but didn't keep it off. This time i know I will keep it off, and I'm not content to sit back and say "good job! Now you're done!" because I have support and encouragement and I see it can be done.

I broke down in there before Christmas about my mom's cancer and they just let me cry...it was all about Christmas and how I take it all on myself and then it was about my mom - you know how emotions can swirl and bring out this stuff you're eating and not feeling? Well, it did. And for the first time in YEARS I didn't have a Christmas breakdown, in the corner sobbing. I didn't eat it. I FELT it and let it go.

It's not for everyone, but it is working for me, to my delight and surprise.

And so are all of you! I think things turn up when you need them. So for all of us this turned up, and if something isn't working, something else will.

Today I am super sick - it must be going around! - and worked all day and my husband won't be home until late. I need a day off, really off, from the house and work and my kiddo. But I felt better reading about how all of you are doing - good and bad. Like talking to friends. (Yes, this woman needs adult contact tonight!)

Susan and Paula! Weigh to go!

I weigh in tomorrow...if I don't lose lbs, I know I still made progress. I still made myself a priority...so if you didn't lose weight or if you gained, you are still doing good - you are still sticking to it! :cheer2:

Okay, that's my sick-girl oversharing and pep talk for the night! :-)

Ok, so I am feeling pathetic yet again!

I have been doing really well...I mean, all but perfect for nearly 4 weeks now. And that is just my food...I have also started running and am running 3-4 times per week. Everything is going well, right?

Well, since I have been so good, I decide to reward myself (no...not with food! :rolleyes1 ) and get some new underwear (based on our discussion last week...:rotfl2: ) and also some new workout clothes. I mean, I AM acually working out now, so I though that would be a great reward, right?

I should say that I have a true affinity for workout gear....always have. I just somehow always assume that as soon as I put it on, I will look all fit and toned... :confused3

So yes, you guessed it, I found myself back in front of a three-way mirror again today! :scared1: It was HORRIFYING! Now, I know that weight loss is a slow process...and since the last time I was in front of a mirror was only 2 weeks ago that there is likely only a few pound difference (which will not be detected by the naked eye), but STILL!

I somehow expected to see LESS of that dreaded SBF. But nope, there it was just staring at me....mocking me. And even though I know that I am doing everything right and that this will take some time, I ended up feeling like such a failure as I left the store. :sad2: :sad2:

I'll continue to move forward, but I just need some tangible, VISIBLE results.

Oh, honey! I am with you! On the workout gear (surely this will make me look slim and fit!) and on the no results to the eye. I have been in that mirror.

Well, you should be soo proud of what you have done! Running? Wow!:cheer2: Have you started putting stars on your calendar every time you do something good for yourself - food choice, exercise? I know it might sound silly, but you can see it all in one place and take pride in it.

You are making progress and your body will show it! Be patient and be proud of where you are!

And that's what it's all about, isn't it? Working so hard for a healthier you! Those are results you should be really proud of! :woohoo:

I've been on meds since Monday and I'm beginning to feel human again :yay: I'm so tempted to go to the gym and have a good butt-kicking workout (haven't been since Friday :scared1: ) but....I think I'll take it slowly and simply stay home and walk on my treadmill ::yes::

Good luck and let us know how you make out... I bet you will be surprised by the measurements....

Well I ate subway last night and I lost a pound!!!! I think I will eat subway for dinner every night until I die... LOL! I always lose weight when I eat subway... lol! I feel much better today. yay! :cheer2:

Uggghhh, the measurements! I will be doing that in 2 weeks with my PT! I hate that more than the scale. Good luck!!

 I am sorry you are feeling so lousy...tis the season. Personally, I think all of us moms need a solo vacation once in a while. Of course it never happens but it is nice to dream. You have a great mindset about the weigh-in. I still get myself so worked up if I don't see a loss.

Ok, so I am feeling pathetic yet again!

This is why I avoid shopping at all costs. I do all my clothes shopping online. There are no 3-way mirrors on the internet...yet. :surfweb:

So ladies and gent, there is a great show on Lifetime, "How to look Good Naked" and I think we could all learn a thing or two from watching. The title is deceiving and it is actually about women who have very low self-esteem because they hate their body or some aspect of it and are not living life to its fullest because of their preceived imperfections. I am not a crier by nature but I was mess after watching episode 1. Here is a link where you can watch 2 of the episodes online:
