In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate, VOL 7! Princesses? Nope, just us Goddesses!

OMG, No way! I can't believe I am waking up the thread and it is after noon! Sheesh. Hope everyone is having a good week-end!

I was at work at the crack of dawn this morning (seriously - drove into work while it was still dark out...). Thought about waking up the thread, but didn't have time. Froze my bummocks off while standing in the rain (thanks Ida) watching more scaffolding go up. Seven hours later, I got to come home and try to dry off. Can I just say that working outside in foul weather totally sucks!

Anyways - rant over. I am off to get in a hot shower and try to warm up.

Gabrielle - I have a dear friend with Celiac's. It is not easy, but there are a lot of options out there. The folks here have some good options that aren't based on pre-packaged, non gluten free foods.

DawnC - thanks for the rock star comments. I am sorry to hear about your co-worker. Way too young - so sad.

OK - so need to go defrost my toes now. Catch up with you all later.

Oh and you all cracked me up with last night's bantering. :rotfl:

Hi Everyone

Lyz - The Go Go/Zhu Zhu hamsters are crazy popular!

Paula - I LOVE seeing your before and current photos, it never fails to amaze me! You look Fantabulous!!! :cool1:

DawnC - So sorry about your co-workers husband, that is way too young

I never thought I'd say these words - I can't wait to get to work on Monday! Ive just found out that my Florida itinerary has been sent to my works email address which I can't access until Monday! Im so excited!!

I hope everyones having a great day - the weather here is shocking! Severe Weather Warnings for floods and gale force winds so I exercised indoors today! :upsidedow

Hey all. Busy but good weekend.

Kat. OMG. The ice skating.........a total and complete disaster. Let's just say scooted (not even skated) around the rink with the great assistance of the wall ONCE then we decided we'd had enough. I got HORRIBLE cramps in the arches of my feet. Not quite sure why. I used to be decently good at ice skaiting in high school and the only thing I can figure is that I am 100 pounds heavier now. I pushed myself away from the wall a couple of times and got going a bit, but once the cramps set in, I couldn't do anything. Poor Carlos never let go of the wall, he was so wobbly. Yeah. So. Interesting time. Not the romantic hand holding endeavor I had invisioned. AT ALL. But, incredibly funny :) We decided to go roller skating and perhaps see if we can be good at that before trying to be on ice skates again lol.

Great date night however. I am so proud that he even TRIED ice skating. It was something new for him. And getting him to try something new is tough. So excited for that! We also played at Dave and Busters, ate at Johnny Carino's (one of my favorites) and saw A Christmas Carlos in Imax 35. It was pretty good. A little heavy and dark at times for Disney, but the animation was outstanding.

Good morning Goddesses. Up and at 'em.

I am up way too early. I went to be really early last night. The Pilgrim Pacer run at a local suburban park was yesterday. I did the 10k. It fit perfectly into my Marathoning for Mortals schedule as Saturday was a 6 mile run.

After the race we came home and began our ascent of Mount McLaundry. How can two women generate that much laundry? A long dog walk in the afternoon and a church dinner honoring volunteers rounded out the day. After that, I went to bed.

Race report from yesterday.

It was not a Dead Last Finish, but it was uncomfortably close. The weather was 50 and misty. The race start was 9:00. For me it was perfect. I am a vampire runner (never run when the sun is up) and I like to run cool.

The event was half marathon, 10k and 5k. We started at 5 minute intervals. The half went off and I went to the back of the cluster of people behind the start. They counted down the 10k start and the people around me moved forward, but with little enthusiasm. It was then I realized I was surrounded by 5k people. I weaved in and out and got across the start. I'm pretty sure I was the last one out.

The route was out and back. The surface was asphalt and, while it was moist, the footing felt okay. The first mile wound down into a creek valley.
The next mile was fairly flat along the creek and a dam. Miles 3 and 4 were up and back down the other side of the valley. Five was the welcome flat and the last mile was the climb back up the start hill. Wow. That sncked. It was an uncomfortable, hurt your quads, alter your stride, feel your toes jam the front of your shoes descent and just as lousy coming back up.

I planned to do a run 10 minutes/walk out the mile interval. I stuck to it. Knowing I have a planned walk coming makes a huge difference for me.

About the near DLF. Until this year I'd never been around racing before. I've done a few fun runs this year. I chose this for the hurry up and wait, get your bib number on right, navigate the water stop experience. It was the right distance the right weekend. My miles were 11:38, 11:59, 12:20, 13:01, 13:09, 13:08. With the little bit at the end it worked out to average 12:25.

That's my target for the Donald in January and what my long runs have been around. I was happy with how I did. That said, I placed 242 of 251. The pace of #249 was still under 14:00. The last two were 17 and some change. The 5 and 10k were billed as run/walks, but the walkers stuck to the 5k. Some of their pacing got into the 18-20 range.

They also had a separate start for Girls on the Run. I looked at some of their information online. It seems like a great program to get girls aged 8-13 running. They gathered around signs for various localities and buddied up before the start. Very cool.

I had a good time. I gained experience. I learned I *can* run up hills. From the forecast I have some lousy weather running experience coming up this week.

DGF went with me. After the start she retreated to the car and listened to a Sue Grafton novel. I texted her at the turn around. She was waiting for me at the finish. It was great having her there and her support feels wonderful.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I need to go fold shirts now....

Ronda

Wow, quiet around here today!

Ronda, great job on the race! I agree about the support, its huge. Ive done a charity run/walk a few times and it was great having DH waiting at the end!

Erika - 6miles! You are my hero!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! :upsidedow

After the race we came home and began our ascent of Mount McLaundry.

 Laundry. The bane of my existance.

Loved your race report Ronda. Very, very inspiring to me!

Fun, unhealthy weekend for me. :rolleyes1 Tomorrow I'm back on track! :thumbsup2

Wow - very quiet day around here today.

Ronda - awesome job on the 10k. I am toyin around with the idea of doing a 5k in mid December to get the whole experience thing down. Not sure yet, but knowing this crowd they will talk me into it.

Cathie - sorry to hear about the ice skating snafu. I havn't skated in easily 30 years for that very same reason. Ankles and arches become way to painful to endure it.

Erika - woo hoo on the run with the kids.

Today was a quiet day for me. Church, breakfast, workout with Jesse, long walk on the treadmill and then home for laundry, cleaning and general goofing off. Jesse is sick so we stuck to a good core workout today. Totallly kicked my butt as we haven't done that in a while. Was talking to him about how i am getting bored with my food plan and when he suggested switching out my breakfasts for oatmeal with protein powder mixed in so my question is this - what should I be looking for when I shop for this stuff? Any particular brand better than another. How much should I use, etc? Time to educate me people...

Off to catch up on some magazine reading...

Good Morning!

Ive got my itinerary! Oh my it looks so good! Early starts and late nights but Im sure I'll manage! :rotfl:

I'll post the details later tonight if anyone is interested!

Have a great day everyone :upsidedow

how exciting! I do want to know!

I'm not sure I mentioned this, but when I weighed myself last Friday I was down 2 lbs from the week before. But before anyone gets too excited, I had a weekend of debauchery and as a result this morning I had erased the entire 2 lb loss :headache: The only consolation right now is, if I *hadn't* lost weight last week, I'd be even worse off this morning. So, back on the horse. It's a new week.

Hope everyone is getting their Monday started on the right foot! :goodvibes

Good morning! Let's move it! (I need Nancy's whistle!_

Ronda--awesome job on the 10k! Great RR. And I think your pace was GREAT. If you had been in a bigger field, you would have been more middle of the pack. Seriously, I have major standards for my races. They have to allow walkers and there has to be around 500 racers as a minimum. The more, the better. It's all about ego for me. I just don't want to be DLF or clearly way in the back. Stupid, I know. Because I am out there doing it and more people aren't. But still. You did SO well with that pace! And FWIW, if you maintain that pace for the Donald, you will be top 50%. No kidding. Another reason I love Disney races!

Oh and Ronda--one more thing--keep your race results from this 10k (print them out if this was chip timed and available online) so that you can submit it to Disney for corral assignment. This is a decent time and that way you won't end up starting way in the back and have to spend the first 2 miles navigating the walkers!

Kel--YES! Interested. Post the itinerary!

Nancy--back on the wagon with you! I am doing *fine.* Not outstanding, but fine. Food is ok and exercise is ok. Need to ratchet both up a notch this week.

DawnC--welcome back! You are coming to my neck of the woods this week! Where in NH? I am half an hour from the border, so even though I am in Maine, I spend a ton of time in NH. If you have any big-ticket Christmas shopping to do, think about doing it when here. No sales tax in NH. Adds up quickly, especially when buying things like say....jewelry...(tell you husband!). The weather is unseasonably warm! Let's hope it stays that way for your visit.

LeAnne--we are 16 weeks out from the Princess. Are you using a training plan? There are tons available. Pick one otherwise you will end up super confused about your training. Also, get yourself to a *real* shoe store. A specialty running store. You need to have your feet analyzed so that you have the right shoes. Yes, this makes ALL the difference. You CANNOT just go to a store and find ones that "feel comfortable." Recipe for disaster. You need to be professionally fitted, especially the first time. Do you pronate? Supinate? If you don't know what these are, then you need to get to a running store ASAP if you plan to do the Princess or even the 5k. Ask whatever questions you have.

Which reminds me...Paula, if memory serves it is time for new shoes for you. Liz, you too. FYI--Olympia is having a great sale! I just got my Sauconys (the ones that I ah-dore) and which are usually $100....got 'em for $57. Huge score.

BUT...don't go to Olympia or any chain store like that unless you already know what you need. Go to a real running store first. And for heaven's sake BUY your first pair of shoes there. Do not go to a good running store, take their time and knowledge, and then go find the same shoes they recommend somewhere else cheaper. Just a crappy thing to do. You should at least buy your first pair there. Yes, it will be more expensive, but think of it as paying for a class as well. It is a huge educational experience.

YES, good shoes cost money. Please, please, please do not cheap out on shoes. If you have any plans of ever doing anything with running/walking, you must invest in the right shoes.

Here ends my PSA for the day. :rotfl2:

Cool. I will. I wondered if it would be worthwhile. If not, my plan is to get close to the front of the last corral. I'm sure I'm the only one thinking that.:rotfl:

Lyz has revoked my whistle. I'm only allowed to bark now :upsidedow

I need to up my game a bit as well. I have 4 solid days to do good work before all hell breaks loose here. Seth comes home on Friday :yay: , so that will be a sedentary day (7+ hours in the car :scared:). Saturday should be o.k., but then starting Sunday the Thanksgiving Madness will start at work. :headache: I'll be all sorts off schedule!

WORD! And no matter how expensive those shoes seem, they are still cheaper and way less painful than PT when you inevitably get some kind of injury from over training in shoes that just weren't up to the task.

Cool. I will. I wondered if it would be worthwhile. If not, my plan is to get close to the front of the last corral. I'm sure I'm the only one thinking that.:rotfl:

Definitely turn in your time for a start corral assignment. Disney does a rather decent job of placing the groups appropriately - and you really do want to be where you belong. I learned that one the hard way :rolleyes1

Erika ohmigosh! If my math is right I *AM* going to be able to move up a corral at the half in January. They want proof of time if you expect to finish sooner than 2:45. That's around 12:35, I hit 12:25 in this weekend's 10k! It's splitting hairs, but I think I made it. I thought the requirement was in the 11s. Ohmigosh!

I am so glad you mentioned it. I didn't think I was anywhere close to moving up!

It's too late to email, but it's printed and ready to go!

Ronda

This gets a banana!
 and jumping jacks:yay:

Good Morning...

Erika - OMG what have you had for breakfast this morning? I could picture you rattling off all of that shoe info at a mile a minute pace. Too funny and yes, I am due for new shoes. The slight twinge in my knee after a 3.5 mile walk yesterday is telling me that as well :confused3. Need to get fitted because my cross trainers won't cut it anymore. Hoping the knee twinge is nothing serious.

Ronda - whoo hoo on being able to move up a corral!!!

Kelly - the trip itinerary sounds awesome. So wantt o sneak my way into that tour.

Nancy - hang in there!!! Didn't Seth mention something about sharing his workouts with you to torture you? Something to look forward to right?

Not much going on here. Just a crap load of work!!! Gotta run...

Awesome news, Ronda! And hey...10 seconds per mile is so NOT splitting hairs! Glad I could help!

Nancy--you must be out of your mind excited to see Seth! Can't wait to hear all about it! Has Becca been living in the sweatshirt??

Kelly--what a great itinerary! And the VIP tours! You know that you will HAVE to do a TR for us, right? That's a pretty full schedule you have there, but I still think you can manage to do a LIVE TR each day! :rotfl2: And of course...you HAVE to find time to sneak way an see New Moon! OMG, you will be able to see it before it releases in the UK! I'm pretty sure it will be playing at the theaters in Downtown Disney. Just a short can ride from the Hard Rock...

Paula--here is my protein powder of choice:

Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein Powder.

It has ZERO carbs, 2g of fat, and a whopping 26g of protein per 100-calorie serving (1 scoop).

I prefer the chocolate flavor and put a scoop in my oatmeal. I also have no problem mixing it with just water and drinking it down. Most people mix it with milk, but I usually want to forgo the added calories so I will just drink it with water and slam it (it isn't horrible, though...sort of reminds me of slim fast. Tastes chocolaty but has that slight after taste). I am not a coffee drinker, but I know folks who mix it in with their iced coffee.

It is available all over the place, even Wal-Mart, though we all know I don't shop there! :lmao: But most drug stores have it, and for those in the mid-west, it is at Meijer's. Not sure about Target, but likely. I get mine from drugstore.com often when I am placing orders for other stuff. (Note: so much cheaper buying certain household meds and toiletries from drugstore.com. And yes, they have free shipping.) It is also one of the least expensive forms of whey protein, so overall a good choice. You should pay anywhere from $12 - $16 per huge container. The price on Amazon is $32 but realize that is for TWO containers, so still at the right price point, just a tad on the higher end.
