In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate, VOL 7! Princesses? Nope, just us Goddesses!

Back from being on campus all day to LOTS of posts!

Dawn--so sad about the sisters and their families. And listen, I am absolutely NO FAN of the insurance industry as a whole. Seriously, I think it is one of the most corrupt industries in our society. That being said, until things change it is important to work with the existing system and and make sure you have adequate coverage. For example, with the sisters...any working adults with children need to have disability insurance. Long term and short term. That way you don't lose everything because you are out of work. And an umbrella policy like Ronda said. And catastrophic medical. And so on and so on. Is it a scam? Well, for the most part, yes. But better to suck it up and pay now as opposed to being injured and poor later.

$300,000 liability on a homeowner's policy seems low??? Ours is a million, but I think that is set by the state? Not sure. We trust our agent entirely so we just get whatever coverage he says we need.

Liz--yes, homework in K. We do that here, too. My kids all had homework on the first night of school. They were bummed and I was like, "Man, even I don't do that!" They laughed.

Nancy--yes, your busy season is here! STAY AWAY from the baked goods!

Cathie--hope you had a good day in my favorite park!

Hi KAT!

Lisa--Um, no complaining about your love life. You were in NYC and didn't even ASK for my brother's phone number. :rotfl2: You know, the one who is the exact same age as you, has never been married, and oh yeah, works for ABC which is owned by DISNEY.

I got some good news at work this week. So, for the past year or so I have only had to go on campus on Mondays. (Remember the days of the JumboTron???) Well, I just got my schedule for next semester approved. I put in for all online and they accepted it! I am so psyched.

And really, I know I shouldn't complain about having to go there in person once a week. I do. But once you have been working online primarily, it becomes a total imposition to have to actually show up somewhere as opposed to do things on your on time. I get SUCH an attitude on Mondays. I'm like, "Really? You want me to actually be there? Don't you know who I am? I don't work that way..."

OMG, Jeff just can't believe I have the nerve to whine about it. :rotfl2:

Two things. Paula - Peanut butter and chocolate? One piece needs to go to Ohio. And one north of the border. :lmao: Stat.

Sorry - the cake is long gone, but I can post a link to the recipe. You can find it here:

http://www.kingarthurflour.com/reci...1&spJobID=156597033&spReportId=MTU2NTk3MDMzS0

And yes, Lyz, I noticed that the name of the cake is buckeye. Perfect for those from Ohio!

She loves it. She never stops speaking. EVER. God Bless those teachers. I wish them luck as I laugh and dance out of there.

Liz - A classic quote if ever I saw one. Glad she is having such a great time at school.

So tired today... the effects of the weekend I guess. Got a great spinning workout in at the gym tonight. 40 minutes, 15.5 miles and 455 calories burned plus it felt great!

Nancy - before you ask, yes I did go to JC tonight and gained 1 pound. I am not surprised given the amount of the above birthday cake that I consumed (and the ruben for dinner, and the drinks on Saturday night, and the...) but it is a little frustrating. Guess I'll have to hit that 75 pound mark next week instead right?

OK - time to finish the work I brought home so I can collapse into my bed. Loving the many trip reports that you travellers are providing. Dawn, good luck with the insurance stuff. Not a fun thing to be dealing with.

Hi to everone else... talk to you soon (when I am no longer comotose from exhaustion)

Hey everybody. I am beat from a very tough test. From the class poll, it sounds like I probably had one of the best grades. Very tough religion exam. I'm going to try to post about the nuns early tomorrow. I am just too tired to do them justice.

I had dinner on campus tonight and it was yummy and cheap. I'm used to burgers, pizza, and other junk from my previous college life. We have healthy food like create your own Mongolian BBQ, roast chicken with veggies, etc. I had a veggie/egg BBQ with a drink for just over $4. Beat that Mickey D's. I don't have enough time to go home and I am not going to eat supper at 9:30. So it works.

Busy here today. Love it.

Love you!!! You totally got my back, doncha!!!!

:rotfl:

Bottom line - please everyone, look at your home owners insurance. Because if someone gets hurt at your house - the policy needs to be greater than just a compensation claim. It needs to be enough to cover the medical costs and any sort of compensation. HP may decide to go after the family personally to recover the difference. If the neighbor boy would have been hurt, there is no way the amount of coverage they had would even touch both hospital bills.

I'm going to look into it right away. You know I've always been more concerned about replacing my house with my homeowners than someone getting hurt.

Health Insurance company for sister B and her husband took all the Home owner money that there was for Sister A's policy. Then they went after Sister A personally and they have since lost their house and everything they had.

So now - Sister A and her husband who was burned the worst - live in a run down apartment - he is dissabled permanently - no hands and bad facial burns.

Sister B - lost their house as well because husband and wife both spent 3 months in the burn unit and both are dissabled.

That is the reality of health care.

Sister A had enough of a home owners policy that Sister B and her husband could have been compensated for life if it would have not gone to pay back the health insurance company.

Sister A could have also made enough to help her family not live in poverty. Now - the amount they owe is so great - her credit is shot - she will have to work forever to get the health insurance paid back.

Ok. Why IN HEAVANS Name would one sister(B) literally go after her sister(A) personally!!!!! That is 10 different kinds of f'd up!!!! I have a real, REAL, problem with that. I can see the homeowners insurance, but to go after them. Someones a real selfish prick.

And. We don't burn candles. EVER.

Yes, we are doing everything as a group of four...we haven't gotten any time to ourselves really, but I don't expect oit to change much. His parents are so uncomfortable and paranoic when they're somewhere new so looks like its tour guide cathie and carlos!!!

Are Carlo's parents enjoying WDW?

Dinner and san angel inn which we actually all enjoyed very very much! The menu has changed as hasd the salsa, and overall I find it to be even better than it was last year. Could still use a bit more lighting though.

No! The atmosphere in Mek-e-co is mucho perfecto!

And then either shopping or swimming. Either way no matter what they all do I may opt to lay by the pool

So jealous!

I'm off to watch the rest of Jay Leno. I sure hope that he gives Kayne West a verbal beating

BIG Sigh. I watched it. I felt bad for Kayne. He is really regretting his actions. He screwed up MAJOR and realizes it.

Lisa--Um, no complaining about your love life. You were in NYC and didn't even ASK for my brother's phone number. :rotfl2: You know, the one who is the exact same age as you, has never been married, and oh yeah, works for ABC which is owned by DISNEY.

Gulp. I bet she didn't even think of it! And by the way. You sure do pimp out your brother. Does he know this?

Great News!!!

And here I thought I was going to wake up the thread this morning! Forgot about Aim's 3rd shift dealio! :lmao:

Anyway, Good Morning! Getting the kids on the bus and then have to plan my workout for the day. It seems those f'ing shin splints are back! This is going on three months now!

Morning here too!

E - I agree that the sisters and theri families should have had dissability - and better coverage for their homeowners. That's what I feel as well. We do not plan for worse case scenarios many times as human beings - often feel we will be the lucky ones that will not have any death or catastrophe happen to them.

I have talked to 3 attorneys so far and each of them are saying that the $300,000 policy is average/adequete and normal around here for someone who doesn't have a ton of money. I do not understand this at all. The expense of a hospital stay is so great - how is a total of $300,000 big enough for a few people?

Lyz - the sisters are/did not sue each other. The health insurance company of the sister who was a guest - sued and won to be reimbursed from the homeowners insurance of the sister who owned the cabin. Then the health insurance sued the sister who owned the cabin in a civil suit for the rest and won as well. I don't even want to know the amount of the hospital bill for 2 people at the burn unit for 2-3 months and several surgeries. Gotta be over 2 million easily.

Lyz - you are dead on about the fact that most insurance agents and people - spend more time talking about what it will cost to replace your home/everything in it if there was a catastrophe/fire than the laibility if someone was hurt.

The woman who is in touch with me from the boards - her 4 year old daughter reached under a treadmill for a toy and her cousin turned the treadmill on at the same time. Major friction burn - 2 surgeries already and more to come due to her age and scarring.

Just an accident and now what is already a horible situation between the 2 families as far as guilt on all sides and trauma - can be compounded by something out of either of their control as far as what the insurance companies may do. Tread-mills are next to fire pits for percent of injuuries resulting in a burn in the US.

I am off to get breakfast made and then a walk before the attorney meeting. I had a horrible day of food yesterday. Need to post my food choies here daily.

Nancy - I understand the emotional beating you feel when you know what you should not eat/drink - it does not taste or even feel good when you do it - and yet you still manage to find a way to not follow what common sense and your internal compass. Do not like that at all.

Good morning. I hate Tuesdays. I can never get to bed at a normal time after class and my wake up call really hurts. Sigh. I'm going to try to pop in from the library again today to post about the nuns.

Sorry - the cake is long gone, but I can post a link to the recipe. You can find it here:

OMG Paula! My GF made that EXACT cake over Labor Day weekend. It is AMAZING. And I am a total dessert SNOB. Love that cake. Love, love, LOVE it.

(phew - I think I need a cold shower now :lmao:)

Sorry about the gain. I too was up this morning. Ticks me off.

Oh - and I've been thinking. In a few weeks here we'll be setting our clocks back for daylight saving time....but when do we get to universally turn our SCALES back??? :confused3

I'm going to look into it right away. You know I've always been more concerned about replacing my house with my homeowners than someone getting hurt.

I need to review my policy. I think we're pretty well covered. But *thinking* I am and *knowing* I am are different things...

BIG Sigh. I watched it. I felt bad for Kayne. He is really regretting his actions. He screwed up MAJOR and realizes it.

Me too. What would your mother say? OUCH. Yeah - cut right to the core on that one. He was an a$$, and clearly remorseful. Now I think if would be nice if Taylor Swift steps up and accepts the apology so that everyone can move on.

So - another dull day around here :rolleyes1 Biking is on the agenda for this a.m.

Nancy - I know... wish it were that easy!

Enjoy the bike ride!

Good morning everyone. Up to my eyeballs in work this morning and it is not even 9:00 yet. Ugh...

Hope everyone has a great day and for those of you on vacation, do something fun for all of us saps who are stuck working!

You won't believe this. So I called in to my fave women's talk radio station - won tickets worth $100 to a local cities "Taste of" night. All excited because it is featuring 8 restaurants I have never tried.

Then while I am pulling this site up to tell you all - I get a call from the nurses office. Baylor's nurse.

Seems Baylor was sitting in his desk at school before the bell rang and a kid namked Sam who is in his class and a former friend - walked up to Baylor and asked Baylor if he was still friends with Sam's girlfriend.

The girls name is Abby and her and her twin sister are not only family friends but good friends of Baylor's since he was 3.

So Baylor said yes.

Sam BTW is about 40 pounds bigger than Baylor and is about 3-4 inches taller.

Sam then proceeds to punch Baylor in the side of his head/ear area 3-4 times.

Baylor sitting in his desk did not get a chance to defend himself or swing back. Teacher in the room jumps up and has to pull Sam off Baylor.

So the nurse has him with an ice bag - I talked to him and he says his adreniline is pumping right now so he doesn't feel it hurts too bad. I pick him up at 9:45 am anyway for lawyer appt so will bring Tylenol with.

They better not plan on having him back in the class again is all I have to say. Sam was in it because he almost failed out of school last year and has some seriously huge family issues. I feel bad for the kid but if this will trigger him to wail on someone - what is next?

Liz - I will trade you Kindergarten for Jr high any day!

OMG! Dawn! What a nightmare! Baylor is home for the day now? Yes, let me keep kindergarten for a while!

So.

Anyone doing well? :lmao:

I'm tracking food this week - weighing in on Friday.

Let's see if I've got it right:

Lisa V and I are emotional - yes, Lisa, I'm with you on this! Emotions, emotions!

Kat and Cathie are on vacay. Ronda is back to work, Erika is running around as per usual :goodvibes. Steph is MIA. STEPH! Amiee is getting ready to tell us about the nuns, Amy is working 3rd shift. Paula is kicking a$$. Nancy is getting slammed during busy season. Kelly is trying not to get injured. Oh, and Kelly - you DO look thin!

There's some newbies I liked but whose names I can't remember - sorry, I suck.

Lyz, you're good, right? :rotfl: You have good things going on - tell us.

Lyz, you're good, right? :rotfl: You have good things going on - tell us.

Well...I just printed the Buckeye Peanut Butter-Fudge Cake Recipe. I'm golden!

Ugh, had to pay for my citation this morning. $135.00  Molli is sick. Fever of 102.4. She stayed home yesterday and today. Taking her to the dr at 1:30. I ate very well all day yesterday until hubs came to the office and we worked together till 9pm. Needless to say, I was starving and rattled and buried all that under a Mexican Chef Salad. Bad, bad, bad. I mean it tasted good, but oh so bad for me. Maddi has a homework assignment that she and I are so excited about. It's a picture of a pig and we need to decorate it unconventionally. I'm humming to get started, so many options. Thankfully for me, she thinks everything should look like a rainbow. Fun. So, all in all, I'm just about right. Drama here, drama there, procrastination here, fanfic there.

As promised, the nuns (and some other details about the trip)!

So after we were finished with the Monks, we headed to our hotel in Bardstown to check in. A few of us went to a pizza place and a few went to a Mexican place. I was in the Mexican place and yes, I did have a margarita. The mango variety. Yum! We chatted and got to know each other a bit, then returned to the hotel to study. We took over the lobby and it was great (moved tables, pulled up chairs, camped on the floor, lol). Totally took over.

Sunday came around and it was time to visit the nuns. They are the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky. We arrived early and Sister Imogene was thrilled. She is an older lady and gets around very well (she's 86). We walked into the cathedral to begin our tour (St. Vincent's). I have been in a few Catholic churches, but this church was breath taking. They have 2 balconies simply for the nuns who can't move around too well. The infirmary is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. One of the nuns (can't remember her name, but I will call her Social Butterfly), motioned me down to her level and told me to look up as she was talking. We met in the bathroom, btw. Adorable lady. She explained that the ill were either pushed in their beds or wheeled in chairs to the balconies to participate in Mass.

My time is running out, if I can log back in at the library, I will edit and add. Otherwise, it will be after work. Cliffhanger!

Edit to Continue:

Our social butterfly nun went on to explain that one of their callings is healthcare. In case you don't know, nuns and monks take care of their own who are sick. The Sisters opened two hospitals in the Louisville area and were the first to treat minorities as equal in the hospital. Fearless, I tell you.

Sister Imogene was once arrested in Birmingham, Alabama in the 50's for teaching a class of African American boys. She said she would get arrested daily if it meant her kids would get an education. She also told us of stories about how their order became an orphanage. There was a cholera outbreak and one of the sisters was tending to a husband and wife (they eventually passed). They had two boys who were a year apart. This was before child protection and welfare laws, so the sister was determined that the boys would be taken care of. They ended up coming back to the convent with her and that was the start of the orphanage. The two boys entered the priesthood as thanks to the sisters for helping them thrive.

As we walked through the campus, we couldn't help but be moved by the love that filled the air. Every sister would stop and chat with us.

Discussion about the architecture to follow!

OMG, sitting here with ice packs on BOTH shins. The pain!!! Seriously, worst shin splints I have ever had. And I thought I was done! A week and a half and they are back. WTH?!?!

HELP!

OMG! Dawn! What a nightmare! Baylor is home for the day now? Yes, let me keep kindergarten for a while!
Update - cancelled the attorney appt today because he needed to go to doc instead.
School wanted his bumps and bruises documented and before they allowed him back in football to make sure he did not have a concussion.

The kid hit him twice. He has a bump on the top of the cheek bone and one in his hair behind his upper ear. Face is already bruised.

School already conatcted police dept (DARE officer) and we have to press assault charges. School has no violence policy and laws surrounding it are enforced no matter what.

Sam is kicked out of school through the end of the week and will not be back in Baylor's class. They are hoping these charges will get him into some anger mgmt counseling. The kid was in rehab for drugs last year (7th) grade. Parents have no control and this may actually do some good for Sam. I feel bad his life has not been the easiest but he needs to change his choices before he gets in real trouble.

Baylor - typical 13 year old boy - is more mad about the fact he wasn't standing up and could not fight back. I told him he was lucky because he too might have been suspended.

That is the worst part of having boys I think. You do not want them to be wimpy but you do not want them starting problems either.

OMG, sitting here with ice packs on BOTH shins. The pain!!! Seriously, worst shin splints I have ever had. And I thought I was done! A week and a half and they are back. WTH?!?!

HELP!

Carsyn has been having them for about 2 months - icing in big buckets every day. She is misserable. I have never had them but can only imagine how hard it is beinga Mom and needing to be everything and dealing with that pain!

Hope it get's better soon.:worship:

Glad Baylor only has bumps and bruises.

So let me get this straight...you now have two separate legal issues with two different boys (or parents) in Baylor's class??? I think I would get my number changed if I were you. Or maybe just relocate. :scared1:
