In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Good Sunday Morning Everyone! :cheer2:

So much to catch up on! We were in Rhinebeck, NY yesterday for a goat show. Had an ok day - not spectacular, but Becca did get a reserve champion with one of her goats :thumbsup2 It rained (what else is new. I've ordered my own personal ark blueprints....:rolleyes1), we didn't get home until 11:00 last night and I'm just plain physically and mentally exhausted right now.

Dawn- hope you are having a great trip! We don't camp very often. Rarely. Like three times in 20 years...hope the weather is good- tenting in the rain would totally suck.

LisaV
- What's this you say about not drinking your water? Get on it, woman! And I too want to know how the wedding went.

(funny. I first typed "weeding" instead of "wedding". subliminal messages from my garden now being channelled...:rotfl2:)

Pretty much - its kind of the noise you make when you dry-heave, you know, the 'buerk' sound! Its doubley attractive when you make it because you are crying so much at a TV show! :lmao: I don't know where the word 'gipped' comes from!

:rotfl: Now I get it. Good guess Lisa!

It's 88 here and I'll be spending my evening shoved in a lawn chair watching softball. Oh the sweat. I may jump in the river.

It hasn't hit 80* here in a couple of weeks. Rain. That's all we've had. Cold, damp rain. I'm so freakin' sick of it.

Oh--the LINDT Chocolate Store here is going out of business and is having a massive sale. As in 75% off. You know those awesome truffles? OMG, an entire POUND for--wait for it--THREE dollars! I had three throughout the day. So yeah, I am a bit off, eh?

So, how many pounds did we purchase? :confused3

Usual buzzed post from me tonight! i am on my wine diet for now!!

wine=grapes=fruit. I say it's all good. ;)

Anyone have any big Father's Day plans? :confused3

Does anyone else feel like we could get rid of Fathers Day and Mothers Day? Seriously, who needs a tie? Can't we just be mindful and celebrate the people in our life daily, or when the mood strikes us, instead of this mass produced holiday?

YES! "Hallmark Holidays". That's what we call them. Invented by sales and marketing people to guilt us into feeling obligated to buy cards and crap that we don't need. The gestures then often become meaningless and insincere.

Simple things. Time. Dinner. A random flower that you found that reminded you of someone. Those are the things that I think are important. Those things show that someone is thinking of you because they want to. Not because some ad agency told them that they were supposed to.

Now that I sound like the Grinch that Stole Father's Day....anyone doing anything FUN with the dad's in their life today?

Good morning!

So it's Fathers Day here. Does anyone else feel like we could get rid of Fathers Day and Mothers Day? Seriously, who needs a tie? Can't we just be mindful and celebrate the people in our life daily, or when the mood strikes us, instead of this mass produced holiday?

I'm not anti holiday. I'd like to hang onto the ones from my faith and Thanksgiving. But really, lose Mother Day and Fathers Day. All we do is ***** about the anyway. There's got to be a better way to celebrate parenting. Have one day, Parenting Day. Give us all off, encourage community service, feature stories of parents who raise kids in difficult circumstances, etc etc

Thoughts?

I couldn't agree more.

And Nancy, yup, "Hallmark Holidays". We don't celebrate them around here. My parents asked nicely for us not to really recognize anything like that, when we were kids, and it has stuck. This household also doesn't exchange gifts for anything, and doesn't celebrate anything like Valentine's Day. Birthdays and anniversaries are a nice dinner or a trip.

The exception is for the in-laws, as they don't subscribe...

I think we should just be mindful and celebrate the loved ones in our lives. However, the advertising industry is unlikely to get behind that one!!

In fact, my parents are in Mexico at my cousin's wedding. My uncle re-located there in the 1970s and married a local, so I have two cousins there.

Hope everyone is having a great day! Mine is likely to include lawn-mowing and laundry, but at least the weather broke a bit today.

Hi gang..

Back from Binghamton. I was voted in as board chair and now the responsibility of the whole thing is starting to sink in. It'll pass, but am a little panic stricken at the moment. Did ok food wise. I am down a bike ride for the week so I need to fit that in this week.

Had dinner with my dad (and the rest of the family). Nothing too crazy, but we did buy / cook him a lobster. He was loving it.... I am not big into the Hallmark holidays either. If I see something one of my parents will like, I get it for them. I don't wait for a holiday or anything. We were brought up on making memories as opposed to accumulating stuff, so kidnapping one of them to go do something is way better than just buying a gift.

Anyways- need to go do some work now. Have a big proposal for work on Tuesday.

Talk to you all later...

Congrats on your chairmanship Paula! :woohoo:

Anyone out there a fan of Extreme Makeover Home Edition? :confused3 There's a rumor flying around that they are doing a house near me....trying to confirm (or deny...) but wowza - that could be a cool thing to see!

Good Morning Everyone!

YES, YES, YES!!
I totally agree with you. My Mum had lost BOTH of her parents by the age of 16 :sad1: so Mothers Day and Fathers Day are particularly hard for her. In the morning she goes to the Cemetary with flowers, and then comes home and stays there. Understandably, she doesn't want to go out and 'celebrate'.

A 'Parenting' Day would be so much better.

Well, its 9.41am and Im going well with my water, half a litre drank so far!

And, its that time again...Blood Donors! I can't go to one of the daytime sessions because Im working, so im going straight from work to donate. You know what that means - biscuits and cups of tea! :lmao:

Have a great day everyone :upsidedow

I did some damage this weekend.:headache: The scale has rocketed up to show just how "off" I am. Water? not so much. Food? tons. Exercise? nada.

Back at it today. On my list of things to do today are "journal" and "water". If I keep those 2 words in front of me all day I'm hoping to do a much better job of treating my body the way I should.

And we finally have a small break from the rain - so it's off for a bike ride this morning. :thumbsup2

/
Really? Am I playing by myself today? :confused3

So, when I said we had "a small break from the rain" I meant it. Weather channel had 0% chance of showers here this morning, and 5-10% chance of showers by lunch time...yeah. well. Someone didn't tell the RAIN that. I got soaked on my ride. :sad1:

Of course, it stopped soon after we got home

Hallmark Holidays - eh I don't have the energy to get fired up about it. It just is. I'm more disgusted that Jon & Kate have screwed up their lives and are advertising a "big announcement" for Monday night and that would be that they are divorcing. OMG! They have totally lost sight of reality. WHO markets the divorce announcement. Even real celebrities quietly have a publisist release it.

I'm journaling also Nancy. Reserve champion is awesome!

Kelly - tell me how your mom lost both parents by 16, and what she did after that?

Paula - congrats on the chairmanship of the Odyssey!!! Thats alot of responsibility.

EriKa - yes, how many pounds of Lindt chocolate was purchased? Hmmmm?

Hi! Back from Boston--haven't read yet. But the DVC event was AWESOME. OMG, the kids loved it. And we got lots of free DVC stuff. I am doing a review of the event for Pete, so you might get to hear all about it if he decides to use it. :goodvibes Otherwise, I will post a report about it (as I will send Pete the write-up for the Blog anyway).

Ok, off to catch up!

I only purchased ONE pound of chocolate and gave most of it away. So, phew. Of course, with being away for the week-end and eating meals out, I did not do too well. Not awful, but not exactly on program either.

The rain, OMG, the rain! It has been raining for days and days and days. And there is no end in sight! It hasn't been out of the 60s in forever it seems.

Hallmark Holidays--we don't do much with them either. Of course, the schools make a big deal about Mother and Fathers' Day, so we "celebrate" those, but only minimally. Usually hand-made gifts and cards, etc. Otherwise, we are like Kat's family....my parents prefer to just blow all of that crap off, but Jeff's parents insist in everything--cards, phone calls, gifts, etc. SO annoying.

Paula--exciting news about the election! Congrats!

Hi Kelly!

Liz! Glad to see you here!

LisaPR--oh, the new job! How is it all going?

LisaV--wedding? House hunting? DO tell!

Ronda--got your PM and will be heading that direction later this week! :thumbsup2

Lyz--I'll run today if you take a walk. Deal?

We had Extreme Home Makeover here about 2 years ago or so. The house is just a mile and a half down the road from me and it is on my running route so I pass it all the time. They did a beautiful job, but the family doesn't appreciate it. :sad2: Long story full of drama that was in the local papers, etc. for ages during and after the process.

Kelly - tell me how your mom lost both parents by 16, and what she did after that?

:sad1:
My mum has 2 brothers and 1 sister, and my mum is the 2nd youngest. She was 14 when my Grandma died (Cancer), which only made her younger brother 6 years old. Because her older brother, who was 22 and sister who was 24 worked, she left school to help my Grandad take care of him.
When she was 15 her dad got diagnosed with Cancer, so her and my dad decided to fetch the wedding forward (they had planned to get married when my mum was 18) and get married when she was 16 - her dad just made it to the wedding then passed away :sad1:

My mum and dad helped my aunt to raise my uncle - the older uncle at this point had decided it was too much, he didnt want his wage contributing to the house so he left. It was only last year, around 3 months before my wedding that they spoke to each other again :sad2:
It makes me really sad every time I think of what happened, but they all just got on with it you know, pulled together so my Uncle wouldn't go into care.

Welcome back! :)

Good morning...

Nancy - sorry about the wet ride. It has been raining buckets here as well. There was a funny story about a missing item in this morning's paper. There is a hunt on for the sun... Congrats the reserve champion. very exciting.

They did a EHM house near me not too long ago. The house is beautiful, but I was totally fascinated by the sheer logistics of getting it all done in a week. Lots of preplanning and prep work is all I can say about it. Haven't heard much about the family since, but this was a family who got their mortgage paid off, college tuition, etc so I am not sure what the money situation is. I always wondered how the families deal with the taxes afterwards since the assement on the house probably doubled what they used to have.

Erika - can't wait to hear about the event. Sounds like fun.

Work has me pretty busy today for this presentation tomorrow so can't stay long. Have a great day everyone and I'll post my weigh in results later tonight after my workout with Jesse.

MMMMMM, chocolate.

Deal. I saw this and the girls and I hopped up and out. Hour walk in. All over the park and ball fields. Don't know how far, just how long. Up and down staircases and hills. Oy.

:sad1:

Thank you for sharing. Wow. I can't even imagine. :flower3:

Paula - I'm under the impression the fallout afterward is not good. Regarding taxes and upkeep...

OMG, Lyz! You ALREADY walked? Crap! And it is POURING rain here. :lmao: I am definitely getting the short end of this stick! SUPER proud of you for getting out there!

And yes, the fall-out is bad due to taxes, etc. The family near us was talking of having to see the house, etc., but so far they haven't.

SHOOT!

I had a whole post earlier. Don't know where it went? :confused3 Lost in Cyber-Space I guess.

anywho.

Just a momentary rant from me. Feel free to bypass.

I'm SO freakin' annoyed right now. I screwed up. Totally and completely my own fault. Seth's college health forms are due next week. We knew that - no trouble. He had his physical in January, TB test 2 weeks ago. Good to go, right?

Wrong.

I just read the paperwork that I'm supposed to be filling out. They want all the health info on THEIR forms, not the ones we already have. It says so in bold, red letters. Crap. Wish I had read that sooner. Now. That's bad enough, but it gets worse. I had spoken on the phone with the gal from the clinic at Norwich 2 weeks ago concerning Seth's physical form. Never once did she indicate that it needed to be on THEIR forms. She indeed told me that the physical form that was on file at the high school would be JUST FINE. However, the bold red CAPITAL letters tell me "No attachments. USE NORWICH FORMS".

bah. I need help now. Call the peditrician. (whom I LOVE. I've always loved them.).

They were less than helpful.

2 weeks. They want 2 freakin' weeks to transfer data from one f*ckin' form to another. Fine. I want to schedule a Dr's appt. Nope. Won't let me. "we have no appointments". Really? What if I tell you my kid is SICK.

So - then I point out the fact that the Dr.'s office failed to give Seth a notice of his TB test & result. I need that.

"It'll be on the paperwork once we fill it out".

Basically, I told them I would be stopping by to pick up his TB results TODAY. It should have been given to him at the time of his appointment, and I want it NOW. I will drop off the college forms for you to fill out, but in the mean time I want his TB result so I can at least prove to the college that he has all his proper medical stuff in order, just not on the right paper.

oh. and to add to the crapfest, I ate 2 m&m cookies. To the tune of 150 calories EACH. Somebody pass the tequila please....:rolleyes1

Tequila??? Did someone say tequila?

Why yes I did. ;) My nerves are frazzled.

But - here's my update (and if you don't feel like reading, suffice it to say the Dr's office redeemed themselves)

I took the paperwork to the Dr's office (25 minutes away). Went in, all organized, envelope clearly marked, etc, etc. Saw Ms Crabby-Pants-phone-answerer and, well, turned to a different receptionist and very politely explained my plight.

Asked if I could possibly have the paperwork by noon next Tues (6/30 - still time to Fed Ex) and in the mean time, if they could get me a copy of the TB test...fax it to me when the have a moment? Just in case paperwork is NOT ready I can send what I have.

Nice Receptionist tells me to have a seat, the nurse will look it up. Less than 5 minutes later - nurse calls me up. Hands me COMPLETED PAPERWORK. :worship: I wanted to kiss her

Honestly -whole trip was less than an hour. I'm a much happier camper now than I was before.

But I could still use some tequila...
