In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Liz, honey, you can only have one lover (plus your husband) or people will talk. So which is it...DC or movie theater popcorn? :lmao::rotfl2:

Not much of a tea drinker, so no help from me. (only green tea - hot.) Except that I would have to ask about the caffine content? Paula - do you drink reg? Decaf? Do you worry about that at all?[/B][/COLOR]

Nancy - I have my caffienated tea in the morning and then I usually switch to decaf after that. It doesn't always happen, but I try. When I am staring at my bedroom ceiling at 2:00AM for no good reason, I know it is time to cut back on the caffiene. Of course, I also pound water back so now I am on more of a two pints of water to one pint of tea thing now. And, yes, I spend a lot of time in the potty...

See, this is why I love you. Hells yes. I swear I could make a mixed drink at 11, and serve at 10. But maybe that's just me mixing up my childhood with repeat viewings of "Auntie Mame". :rotfl:

Liz - how did you paint such a vivid picture of my childhood. In addition to mixing drinks, I was an expert at making coffee and doing laundry by the age of 10. The things we learned to keep our parents happy...

Amy - feel better soon...

Erika - I am with you on the moderation thing. Don't forget, I had to go cold turkey on soda about seven years ago for medical reasons. When I could start drinking it again (after two years of not being able to), I just didn't like it and moved on.

I still try to avoid fake sugars like the plague though. I just don't feel right when I eat them. I was basically main lining DC in college since I don't drink coffee and tea was too difficult to deal with when you didn't have a means to cook. The high volume of nutrasweet totally screwed me up health wise and it took me a while to come down from that. So - I guess I am a little gun shy about nutrasweet these days. Live and learn right?

Absolutely, Paula. And true, nutrisweet can affect people in different and nasty ways. So there are definitely people who don't tolerate it well.

Hey Paula...um, bike? ;)

Completely OT...is anyone watching the Idol finals tonight? Any favorites?

We watch it. That is to say, I watch because the kids love it. They are all musicians, so it makes sense. Speaks to them, you know? Usually I just sort of half-heartedly follow along with them, but I liked this season a bit more. So we are ready for tonight. Anyone else?

Liz, honey, you can only have one lover (plus your husband) or people will talk. So which is it...DC or movie theater popcorn? :lmao::rotfl2:

Ha! :lmao: Well, I am on again and off again with MTP. And to have a lover, you have to have it a lot, huh? Hmm.

I really don't drink that much DC. But when I have it, I enjoy it.

Liz - how did you paint such a vivid picture of my childhood. In addition to mixing drinks, I was an expert at making coffee and doing laundry by the age of 10. The things we learned to keep our parents happy...

I burst out laughing at this! So true! But we are better for it!

BTW, I just taught Em how to cut with her knife and fork and hold them European style. God, this is the BEST part of parenting! Getting to decide how they should be! It's total control! Bwahahahahahahaha.

Ok, I love you dearly but there is no way I am typing out what we ate at each meal! :lmao: I don't even know if I remember. Though I definitely remember Palo...and when I write that part of the TR (remember there are still 2 days to go!) I will include that food since it was so over-the-top good.

As for my conversation with Pete/Walter...might have to podcast that to you! :rotfl2:

Me too, me too :rotfl2:

The straw market actually burned down a while back. Now there is just a much smaller version of it while they are preparing the space for a new one. We went in. (Again, we are used to this type of thing. Asia is 10x more crowded and nothern Africa is 10x more aggressive, so this seemed pretty tame to us.)

Only about 1/2 the stalls were open, though. We were the only ship in port so LOTS and LOTS of stuff wasn't even open. Festival Place (the building that you go through after you get off the ship) was totally closed. Not one booth was open.

Everyone was selling the same stuff. Literally the exact same stuff. Rows and rows and rows of it. And basically all crap and nothing we were interested in. They were definitely vocal in trying to get us to buy stuff, but once we said no thanks, they let us walk on by. No one touched us or reached out (though they do that in some of the Mexican ports and definitely all through Asia).

However, on our way out of the straw market on the street, a man approached us selling these little carved, wooden turtles on a string. You could make them walk and make them pop their heads into their shells, etc. by pulling on the string. A cute kid toy. And Cammie loves turtles, so we figured what the heck. And I love to haggle. He started out at $10 for ONE turtle. I walked away with FOUR for $4. A buck each. Even if the thing breaks right away, how can you go wrong for a dollar, right? We will put them in the kids' stockings at Christmas. (Yes, my Christmas shopping is about 1/3 done. Go ahead and hate me. ;) )

And WOO HOO! I did it! I think I finally broke Lyz! :lmao::rotfl2:

I love bargain shopping!

I burst out laughing at this! So true! But we are better for it!

Liz - glad I could make you laugh. My sister and I both remember one Christmas morning where we woke up, our presents are all there and we can't wait to tear into them, but we can't. Our parents are still asleep, so I head out to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee and Donna sets out two chairs for my parents to sit in. Once the coffeeis made, poured and properly sugared and creamed, we woke them up and got busy with presents. Yes, my parents had quite the amount of control over us. From what I understand, it is one of the perks of parenthood.

Erika - not much to report on the bike yet. I am slowly getting used to it and am working on gear shifting, etc. I am still hanging out at a local school parking lot and field and am gearing up to graduate to the bike trail this weekend. I am even getting the bike shorts out for that ride. :scared1: Not sure the world is quite ready for that sight, but they will have to just deal.

Amiee - Hope work is not kicking your butt too hard this week. How is the mechanic doing?

Amy - Yeah on the Disney fun card, but boo to the no shirt. Happy shopping later in the year I guess. Feel better...

LisaZ - a 13 year old? How did I miss that? Raising kids in general scares me, but teenagers even more so.

LisaV - so need details on your upcoming trip.

LisaPR - how on earth did you raise such a star athlete as Shelby? That girl has a bright future ahead of her. That's for sure.

Lyz - thanks for the compliments on the NAWIC event. It was a lot of work, but I had a lot of help. Did Erika really answer all of your questions? Really?

Kat - Hope you are doing well. The Canes are going to take this next game. I'm sure of it.

Nancy - Had an awesome cardio workout today. I was thinking of you and your bike ride for inspiration so thanks.... :flower3: Tomorrow is Jesse day and core workout - ugh - kill me now. (just kidding)

Ronda - how have you been? We miss you - just sayin'

Dawn - good luck with the tea drinking. Don't forget - water is really best.

Steph - I am so proud of you for your walks. That is awesome progress. BTW - we had frost here yesterday too. I used the heat in my car in the morning and my AC in the late afternoon. Strange...

Stacey - how was the trip? We are dying to know.

Sunny - Hi....

Roddy - Don't forget, you, Amy and I have a Star Trek conversation scheduled for next week. We haven't.

I hope got everyone. Not much to report on here. Just catching up on things from the last day or so and trying not to veer off plan too much. Thankfully, I have a JC sweet treat waiting for me tonight and I am looking foreward to it. Triple chocolate cheesecake and I have some fresh raspberries to go with it. Yumm....

Catch you all later,
Paula

Paula--thanks so much for reaching out to everyone in your last post. I was just, just sitting down to do that.

Ronda, Stacey, Roddy, Sunny--come out and play!

updating my playlist again.

Just added some Beastie Boys and more Lady GaGa & Black Eyed Peas. :thumbsup2

Had the Drama Club awards night tonight. Got to present a few awards. I'm really going to miss the seniors next year (there were 26. yes 26 seniors.)

Raising kids in general scares me, but teenagers even more so.

Most teenagers are awesome! Really. I've had my faith in the youth of our country restored from working with the Drama Club. Of course, there are always a few that you wish you could drop-kick :rolleyes1 but that's generally frowned upon.

Nancy - Had an awesome cardio workout today. I was thinking of you and your bike ride for inspiration so thanks.... :flower3: Tomorrow is Jesse day and core workout - ugh - kill me now. (just kidding)

Glad I could help! :goodvibes

oy. Seems like there was so much that I wanted to say - and it's all gone from my head right now :headache: rats.

So many things that I could say to that... :rotfl2: I'll be good though and keep those thoughts to myself.

It wasn't my own sponge toffee tutorial people. It was wikipedia's take on the crap!!!

And I booked WDW for my birthday. May 30.

Love to all of you. I so have to catch up.

We will need a TR LisaV, lol. So glad you get to visit on your bday.

You are going to WDW in a couple weeks?!?!?!:cool1:Are you flying? Details woman!

LisaV, please please answer Lyz's questions.

Here is Arby's nutrition info on the 2 types I would be interested in. I only have had the passion fruit one.

Diet Blackberry FruiTea Ingredients 0 calories 4 carbs 0 sugar
Passion Fruit Iced FruiTea 100 calories 25 carbs 25 sugars

The diet kind has splenda in it.

The passion fruit one has pure cane sugar. ( I am leaning to as much natutral as possible)

Wowzers, that's a ton of sugar. Actually, way too much for insulin resistance (at least while trying to control it). I don't know if I would spend that many carbs on sweet tea. I would rather have a WW dessert instead (alot less carbs in comparison).

Be honest, moms. Would you ever allow your 11 year old to be carried out of the house because she was tired? She's like 5 ft. Okay, maybe 4' 10". But she's tall and thin and not a little girl - she's a young lady! She totally tells her mom what's what, but nicely - like, "Mom, I told you Emily wasn't allowed to have chocolate milk!". funny like that. But really, why is my otherwise intelligent friend of the last 26 years allowing her child to act like she's 5?

Wow! When pigs fly would I carry my child who is only a few inches taller than me. Injury would be completely different ~ then I would become Wonder Woman.

Nope. By the age of 11 she should be carrying ME because I'm tired. Or drunk. Or just plain lazy

:rotfl2:

:rotfl2::lmao:

For size reference (this will make sense to those of you with kids)...she is 6.5 years old now and JUST hit the 40 pound mark last month. I'm willing to bet that Miss Emily is bigger (though she is turning 5 in just 2 months! Wow!). She has grown a lot this year, though, so that is awesome. She is still the shortest in her class, but now the next-to-shortest is only about 2" taller. Of course, the tallest kids in the class are well over a head taller than she is. I will have to post pics of her hanging out with friends at some point; the size difference is pretty incredible.

Wow, way to make it about my kid, eh? Sorry! :rotfl2:

Completely different for Kel. BTW, Taylor weighs 45 lbs and will be 5 next month. I bet she was adorable as catcher.

(Petting the bottle of DC like a lover...)

OMG. Breaking news. Got approved for Mirena. Going in tomorrow. Soooo excited. Lyz, it better be everything you raved about!

Liz ~ you will adore this. Get ready to say goodbye to your monthly friend (for the most part)

OMG, you all have posted alot!!

Disney was RAINY yesterday. I mean we need rain here, but this was ridiculous. So, after our shopping excursion to the outdoor store, we hit EPCOT and DH got his fun card. Of course Norway was out of the shirt he wanted. The card has no expiration date, so we'll get it some other time. Walked around world showcase a bit and then headed to Big River Grille for dinner. Planned on going back to EPCOT for illuminations, but another deluge started, so we headed back home.

I started out the day with a scratchy throat, itchy eyes. By this morning, I had a horrible head cold. So, I am kinda loopy on all those wonderful cold meds.

Tea rocks! Have any of you tried truvia sweetner? It is pretty good and is all natural.

Off to attempt to catch up.

Truvia is pretty good. I prefer it in cold drinks though. Bummer on the rain.

Of course, I also pound water back so now I am on more of a two pints of water to one pint of tea thing now. And, yes, I spend a lot of time in the potty...

Paula, I can't make tea for the life of me. But I love it.

Liz - glad I could make you laugh. My sister and I both remember one Christmas morning where we woke up, our presents are all there and we can't wait to tear into them, but we can't. Catch you all later,
Paula

It's not as crazy this week, but I am completely in charge until late morning. :scared1: I am confident it will get better. My mechanic is doing well. He worked on my car this weekend ~ tire rotation, oil and transmission (I swear, no pun). He's been dropping me all kinds of messages through the day this week. We are getting along well. If this is all we have, I am happy (for now).

Since this is a weightloss thread, I haven't checked my weight, but I did measure. I lost almost 1/2 inch on my waist since early April. I will take it! I'm also able to wog hills (one is about a 35 degree incline).

I know what I wanted to ask.

Quinoa. it intruiges me. what does one do with it? :confused3

Nancy, I agree with EE in that you can use quinoa as you would any other grain. Rice or couscous or barley, etc. I have a couple of dishes that I make regularly with quinoa.

The first is a quinoa casserole, which I don't have the recipe for on hand but will try to dig up. Super healthy and very filling!

The other is more like a main-dish rice dish, if that makes sense. Here it is:

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (can use spray if desired)
2 onions, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
3/4 cup uncooked quinoa
4 cups vegetable broth or stock
1 tablespoon tomato puree
3 tomatoes - peeled, seeded and chopped
Italian seasoning to taste

DIRECTIONS
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and red, green and yellow peppers; cook and stir for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, and cook for about 2 more minutes. Stir in the quinoa, vegetable stock, and tomato puree.
Return to a boil, then cover and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, or until quinoa grains are soft. Stir in the diced tomatoes and season with Italian seasoning. Cook until heated through, then serve.

Oh and since Lyz will ask, it is pronounced keen-wah. I live in fear of her questions, you know. :lmao:

Which reminds me, Day 7 trip report is almost done. Unless you are bored reading it? Let me know. You won't hurt my feelings. I do them as memories for the family regardless.

My trip.

My trip is nothing to say. :lmao: Booked it just a couple of days ago. SW went down to $59. They had a late night return flight Sunday. BWV standard studio was available for Friday and Saturday.

And voila. The magic of DVC. :worship:

Magic just beat the Cavs - shocked. Great game if anyone is listening.

Lisa - Lakers are assassins but Houston gave them a run and Denver has been looking fierce.

Erika - adore your TRs.

Cutie - husband? You have far set eyes too. Far set eyes are beautiful.

Liz - no, yes and hahaha. (That's no to babying the baby. Big mistake. Then you have someone who refuses to wash the dishes! right! Mirena. It's vunderva. You will have breakthru bleeding for a few months. Just get thru it. SO worth it. Hahaha to everything else. Oh and I can't stop thinking about cheesy popcorn.)

Nancy - TOTALLY into Lady GaGa right now. LOVE Poker Face. Neat you got to hand out drama awards.

EriKa - don't stop posting tr! And I'm familiar with how to pronounce quinoa. Not sure how to spell it. Anyway, substitute for rice. Very interesting. Must research.

Speaking of research. I just perfected bacon in the oven. Anyone? Anyone?

I have more. What was it?

No AI for us.

Amiee - I can't believe you can say your mechanic worked on your car this weekend with a straight face.

Amy - I'm so jelous you live so close to DISNEY. Boo.

Going to bed. I'm exhausted. Lots of big emotions tonight. Will check in tomorrow.

So I wanted to share with you guys my newest neighbors! They are so cute!
