In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

Paula-- a rest day is rarely a mistake. You have been training hard and your body benefits AS MUCH from rest as it does from training.

Lisa/PR--glad that we are on the same page about HR. :goodvibes I find that knowing what my HR is during my run is distracting. I then spend the entire run thinking is it too high, too low? Should I speed up? Oh crap, now that I sped up it is too high and I guess I should slow down. And on and on. Better to just run.

On tap for me today is a 3/4 mile swim followed by a nice and easy 4-miler (no speed drills or intervals).

I am relegated to the TM these days because of the hamstring. I ran outside on Sunday when we had an inch or so on the ground and just running on that little bit of a slick surface flared things up again. And since the roads are uneven right now due to yesterday's storm, I don't dare run on them. I am pretty sure that it was the uneven surfaces that did me in to begin with.

But running inside is downright PAINFUL for me now! Do you remember me this time last year? I was terrified to run outside! Just terrified! :rotfl2: Now I will brave almost anything nature throws my way just so I don't have to do the TM! :lmao:

Ok, time to load up my iPod for the TM. I have a couple of podcasts still, so that always helps. And I think I will put a good book on there, too. If I can get lost in a good story, I can run forever. Ok, not forever....yet.

WOW, LYZ!!!! Happy Birthday!!!

32. Hmm. Let's see. That was a horrible year for me. But it's not the age, you know? It's not 32 per se, but my crazy life. How was 31, overall? Because if you weren't in love with 31, chances are you fall in love with 32.

And a one, and a two and a one two three.....

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday dear cutie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to you

Will be back. Much to say. Yes, Erika so curious. So Ronda of course we want to hear about the marriage from the list. Yes, yes, yes.

And speaking of curiousity and bugging the crap out of Erika. Erika!!!!! Why Somalian refugees - as opposed to other refugees. Please and thank you. :rotfl:

Happy Birthday Lyz!! :dance3:

So, I am kind of wallowing in some disappointment right now. I did not get that job I interviewed for. :sad2: They didn't end up hiring any of the people they interviewed so I am not sure what that means. I did find another job to apply for and will do that later.

Back to tracking today and I will probably do some pilates. My legs are pretty sore.

So, over the last couple weeks I have decided that my least favorite body part at this point are my thighs. So, what are the best exercises to tone them?

I'll be back later to catch up, once I can read more than one post before D slams my computer shut!!

Not a cool kid at all either! In fact, I am the nerd that employs some of my high school foes.

ah. Sweet justice

I think it's good you both watch it. I can envision myself watching things like that with Emily.

And Gilmore Girls. We are huge into Gilmore Girls.

Heart rate: Erica was wrong.

I almost fainted :faint:

I do not disagree with her here.

Glad I kept reading :rotfl:

I am well rested after my night off last night. Here's hoping that decision doesn't come back to bite me later when I am training and getting my butt kicked. (Nancy - hope your session went well this morning).

Food for the day is planned and packed. It is going to be a good day!

Here's hoping the same for all of you.

Paula

I'm glad I rested. 3 days off was HUGE for me. Today, I had a super workout. Only complained a few times (pull-ups. ugh) And now I feel really good.

Having your food all set to go is a great feeling, isn't it? I always start my day feeling much more confident and in control when I know I have a plan in place

Today is my birthday. I am 32. boo. hiss. boo.

HAPPY B-DAY LYZ!
party:

But running inside is downright PAINFUL for me now!

Head games. I play little mental games with myself to keep me going. :rolleyes1

And speaking of curiousity and bugging the crap out of Erika. Erika!!!!! Why Somalian refugees - as opposed to other refugees. Please and thank you. :rotfl:

And while we are bugging the crap out of Erika, inquiring minds want to know if you've made that Dr's appt yet? :confused3

Amy - sorry to hear about the job

Steph? Where are you? I think she got lost in lab-walking-he!! :scared:

Dawn? You still at WDW? Are you back?

Stacey? Sarah? Hellloooooo???? Where are you guys?

Inner, outer, top or bottom of the thigh??

Best all around exercise for your thighs: Squats baby.
Second best all around: Lunges.

Best thigh definition: Leg extension drop sets. Burn baby burn.

Great for inner: Abduction.
Great for outer: Box step ups with side kicks.

Whew, Nancy, you scared the beejeebies out of me. I thought I typed something WRONG!!!!

So, I am kind of wallowing in some disappointment right now. I did not get that job I interviewed for. :sad2: They didn't end up hiring any of the people they interviewed so I am not sure what that means. I did find another job to apply for and will do that later.

I really am sorry you didn't get the job. Things are SO tough out there right now. :sad2: So, so bad.

A friend of ours told me this morning that he lost his job last week. He had been talking about the possibility for weeks. He's rather dramatic, so quite honestly I take most of what he says with a grain of salt. But, it happened. And it gets worse. He had a company car. It is being "picked up" tomorrow. He's single (divorced), no job, and now no car. And as he says, how is he supposed to get a loan to buy a car if he has no job? :confused3 He's even skeptical about whether or not he will be able to collect unemployment - because as it turns out, the owner of the company he worked for wasn't exactly following all the proper rules. (one of the reasons the company went under!)

Although we feel like we are ok and *safe* at this point - it's so scary. So darned frightening to think what could happen. Until we hear from the Army concerning Seth's ROTC scholarship application, I'm going to be in pins and needles I think. Just knowing that his education will be covered would be an incredibly HUGE relief.

Sorry to be such a ray of freakn' sunshine here. I guess the good news is, I won't be stress eating today, because I'm currently in a "gotta save more spend less" mode ;)

Amy - so sorry about the job... I know how highly you thought of that position. There is a better opportunity out there for you.

Nancy - glad your workout was a good one. I totally love having my food packed and ready to go. When the bag is empty, I'm done until dinner. Sorry to hear about your friend's situation. It is terrifying right now with so many people on the cusp. I am grateful that I am still employed but cautiously optomistic about the future.

ok - I have a few minutes.

32. Hmm. Let's see. That was a horrible year for me. But it's not the age, you know? It's not 32 per se, but my crazy life. How was 31, overall? Because if you weren't in love with 31, chances are you fall in love with 32.

31. Well weight wise, it was a roller coaster. I weigh exactly what I did last year when I was crying to you guys. That is a disappointment, but completely my fault and I "get" that. I did gain 11 lbs last year and lost them. I did make a bunch of new friends (you guys) and that part of my 31st year rocked. My children are now both in school and that rocks. 31 was not bad, but I'm still not the supermodel I want to be. (as soon as that happens my life will be perfect. Right?)

So, I am kind of wallowing in some disappointment right now. I did not get that job I interviewed for. :sad2: They didn't end up hiring any of the people they interviewed so I am not sure what that means. I did find another job to apply for and will do that later.

Amy - sorry about that. Wierd they didn't hire anyone. Uhg to this darn economy. I hate it. And Nancy - your friend!!! Yikes!

I'll be back later to catch up, once I can read more than one post before D slams my computer shut!!

 So cute.

LisaV - love it when you go "and a one and a two..."

EriKa - loved your list. I'd like to go thru it point by point, later. But what really struck me was how much you gave up for a boyfriend. I'd have never expected that! Never.

Paula - good job on the loss. Espically since you were expecting a gain. I'll say it again, when you treat your body right the majority of the time, it does not punish you for a few comfort days. You gain weight when you are consistantly off. These are the rewards of your new lifestyle.

Ok - off to give Mol a blowout.

Sorry Lyz, I forgot HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Hmm, 32, that was a long time ago. I think I was thinking about getting pregnant when I was 32.....:rolleyes1

Ronda--you were married? For how long? How'd you get out of it?

We both married for wrong reasons. He was, to use an ancient, but fitting term, a scoundrel. We had nothing to divide and he left after a two years – went to grad school. A few years later I divorced him. It was a pre internet world and I didn’t really want to find him. The attorney placed an ad in the county seat newspaper. It ran three or four weeks. I went to court, swore I was not pregnant and was granted a divorce. I took my name back and kept the decree handy when his creditors would look for him.

After getting a new phone number in 2007, I received a few calls for him. Debt never forgets ; ) It also demonstrated to me that he had not changed a bit.

All - Thanks for the running advice. The W4 run was easier this morning. I even finished strong in the last minute. I will keep the speed down and move to week 5 next week. I like the idea of returning to previous weeks and moving faster. They have some HRMs at the gym. I will try one Thursday. Mine’s in the mail ; )

Ronda

Definitely! We do most of our cooking over the weekend, and just heat stuff up for the rest of the week. It's much easier to avoid the fast food when there is an already cooked yummy meal waiting for you at home.

Hmm, 32, that was a long time ago. I think I was thinking about getting pregnant when I was 32.....:rolleyes1

I was studying for the CPA exam at 32. My life now (at 40) is much easier. :cloud9:

The kids were back at school today, only a 2 hr delay. Sunshine is a beautiful thing! Gotta start melting all that white stuff.

The week has been good to me so far, on track with exercise and eating. I start the new session of aerobics tonight, and am so looking forward to new music and new moves. The calf is back to 100%. Life ain't bad. At all. :)

At 32....one learning to walk, one nursing, and one in the oven. And working full time (about 75% from home at that time and Jeff was with them when I had to be physically at work). Need I say more? I gained a lot that year.

Back from my workout. TIRED! I did the whole tri today. It wasn't my planned workout, but that is how it rolls sometimes. I am SO fatigued. And I held back. I didn't swim, bike or run my fastest. I just wanted to do the course slow and easy. But I can't get over how tired I am. And I want to eat everything in sight. Everything. I ate high protein after I was done...and I am still just ravenous.

Ronda--thanks for the 411. At least the divorce wasn't messy!

LisaV--not sure why Somalia. Will find out. Maybe LisaPR knows?

Aim-- on the job front. They were lucky to even interview you and bask in your awesomeness.

So went to JC totally expecting to have gained two pounds this week. The scale showed a loss of .25 pounds. I totally busted out the happy dance for that!!!! Still can't freakin believe it, but I am totally celebrating it. :worship:

...

Roddy - fellow ostracized band members unite!!! I played clarinet and saxaphone (and no, not at the same time) in my school's band. We were a competition marching band and were one of the few teams that had a winning record. So we were kind of cool in a minute sort of way...

I am off to grab a book and enjoy my rest time before I fall asleep.

Talk to you later,
Paula

Congrats on the loss!

I am with you on the band geek. Flute, piano (jazz band), drum major of the marching band. Whee!

princess runner - This is a stretch, but one of my body idols is Linda Hamilton. Her physique in The Terminator was amazing. She saved the WORLD. I also love the way Angela Bassett looked in What's Love Got to do With It. She saved herself. It's not necessarily athletics, but I'll bet neither of them throw like girls (sorry Kat).

Hehe. I used to love the way Jennifer Garner looked in the early years of Alias.

:lmao: I was sewing, of course. And watching the Secret Life of the American Teen. Have you guys seen that at all? DD watches it. It's good and disturbing at the same time - she's a 15y.o. who is pregnant (on the show - not my DD:scared: ) Stars Molly Ringwald as her mom- so not the 16 Candles image! :rotfl2:

I am not sure about that show either, and I don't have kids.

Happy Birthday Lyz!! :dance3:

So sorry.

Whew, Nancy, you scared the beejeebies out of me. I thought I typed something WRONG!!!!

So I guess my kickboxing class is good for the thighs? Tuesday includes walking lunges (front and side), and Thursday has tons of squats (usually with a step). Both have tons and tons of kicks and balance double/triple kicks, like where you double or triple time the kicks without setting foot on the floor, or only lightly tapping. Each class includes at least 8 sets of 4 double kicks, front and side, Thursdays is on the step.

What is a leg extension drop set?

OK, caught up now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LYZ!!!!

LYZ--how far are you from Columbus again?

I ask because I have a free entrance into the Capital City Marathon and Half Marathon. I might do it. May 2nd. Just thinking at this point.

First of all, I just wanted to fall in line here with a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LYZ." I'm glad your and Liz's names are spelled differently or we'd have to assign you numbers. "Lyz (or Liz) numero uno and numero dos" :lmao:

Second thing is a request. Just for an experiment, I would like for someone to please fix Nancy's computer where she's not allowed to do this --> :confused3 <-- for about a week. I just want to see what kind of withdrawal she experiences. :scared1:

Nancy, if I didn't care, I wouldn't bother. :lmao:

So I'd like to say how much this support really means to me, and to my mom, but it will just make me cry...

and Good God, where are you all??? Are you all watching the last Bachelor episode? Or is that just me?

Hello? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

"Thank you, Simone. Frye, Frye, Frye?"
