In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

Here's my update:

Name, Age, and Family ~ Paula, 37 (and yes, officially closer to 40 than to 35 now) and single

Weight Loss Program, History and Current Goals ~ I have been on Jenny Craig for the past 18 months and have lost 50 pounds so far. I am working on the next 50 now. I don't have a specific number goal in mind as I am building more of a lifestyle change than anything else. Of course I would really LOVE to lose at least 100 pounds. And despite my always talking about this guy named Jesse, he is just my trainer and he totally kicks my a$$.

Favorite Exercise and Healthy Snack
I used to hate exercise, but I am now becoming addicted to it. I am on a mission to lift more weights and conquer the illusive push-up (I am almost there)

For healthy snacks, I love Pirate's Booty if I am craving salt (120 calories for a serving) and I have to have my chocolate from time to time.

Favorite Indulgence
taking some time just for me... like a day off to do nothing...

Best Disney Pixie Dust/Magic Story

My family was at Disney this past December to celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. So many special things happened on this trip, but watching the smiles on their faces grow bigger with each day was awesome. Whether it was lunch on the porch of Tony's Town Square restaurant as the parade went by or watching my mom chase after Chip and Dale, it was all just perfect. Oh - and I got to meet some very cool gals from this board on that trip as well. Can't forget that.

Hi gang,

Did a whole lot of nothing today and it was wonderful... Food wise did all right as well. Off to bed soon since it is back to the grind tomorrow.

Cathy - WELCOME!!!!! Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself.

See you all tomorrow,
Paula

Good for you Paula! You deserve a break!

Okay, okay, I will update too!!

Name, Age, and Family ~ Kathryn, 33, married to Daryl, 38. Two cats, Trinity (7) and Maya (10 mos).

Weight Loss Program, History and Current Goals ~ Low calorie since Feb of 2007. Lost 59 lbs, with a 6 mo maintance in 2007, as of July 2008, but gained 32 of it back in the last 6 mo of 2008. Recommited Feb 1 and a down 12 lbs. Goal is to hit 150 and remain there, but my goals for this year are more centered around healthy habits and less concerned with actual poundage lost. I do 1200 calories, exercise 4-5 times a week, plenty of water, with an emphasis on veggies, lean meats, and unprocessed foods.

Favorite Exercise and Healthy Snack
Ice hockey, kickboxing. I have started doing 30 day shred on off days, as well, and some free weights (as level 1 doesn't hit triceps very hard). Healthy snack: ff spinach dip and veggies

Favorite Indulgence
Alcohol. Yes, I know. :)

Best Disney Pixie Dust/Magic Story
At Animal Kingdom in Sept 2008. We had paid at checkin to upgrade to savannah view, and there was a construction crane in front of our window. We went to the front desk to see if we could get moved, and they refunded our upgrade fee and put us in a concierge level room.

Good morning everyone!

Erika, SUPER CONGRATS!! You did awesome. Send some congrats to your mom too. She is a total rock star!

Welcome Cathy.

I got my 12 in yesterday. It was long and tedious to say the least. I averaged an 11:08 mile pace which is fine and actually about 30 seconds off last weeks long run pace so I am getting a little better with the longer runs. Next week is 14. I need to think about my route. This week I took a route with a mondo humongous hill in it. Smart, I know. I ate really well the rest of the day. I weighed myself before my run and then after I had my Cytomax with protein powder and a sandwich after my run. I was 1 pound more than when I started the run so I did well with my hydration and everything. :woohoo: Jeez, 3 years later, I might be getting the hang of this!!

Nancy, I agree, training for the full is a commitment. This is probably my one and only. Note the probably. I can't rule out anything anymore until I try it first!

I will do an update too:

Name, Age and Family: Lisa (42), married to Mike (40) with 2 kidlets Shelby (14) and David (7).

Weight loss program, history and current goals: I really don't follow a weight loss program. Mike did the SBD for awhile a few years ago and lost lots of weight. We all changed the way we ate at that point and I am just cleaning up our diet more and more every year. I bake our bread, make our granola bars, make trail mix etcetera. I am currently very into the Eat-Clean Diet. My history is that I was always active in sports and always really thin. Then I got into bodybuilding in my early 20s, divorced a total jerk, married Mike and had Shelby. She was a huge baby and I gained a lot of weight. Then I just kind of gave up exercise, ate a little less cautiously and dedicated my life to her basically. Seven years later, David came a long and Shelby was really active. I realized one day running out to Mike's truck to get paperwork for him that I was in really sad shape so I started walking. Then I started jogging a little and walking. Now I am a full runner. I run 25+ miles a week on average. I skate ski in the wintertime for a change of pace and bike when I fit it in the schedule. I also lift weights on a regular basis. My current goal is to reach 127. I started out 3 years ago at 150 and the weight is coming off slowly. I am currently 3 pounds from my goal weight!!

Favorite exercise and health snack: Yup, running. You guessed it. It just clears my head, frees my spirit and sets things right in the world again. My favorite healthy snack would have to be an apple and almond butter. Yummy!

Favorite indulgence: Black and blue!!!!!

Best Disney pixie dust/magic story: Hmm, I guess I really don't have one either. We have had so many special trips. I think my most memorable would be the WDW half in January of 2008, my first half, my first time to Disney sans family and I was so bleeping proud of myself. Before I crossed the finish line I spoke to my dad (internally of course) and thanked him for getting me here. It was just special to me in a lot of ways! :goodvibes

There, I am caught up to date. Have a great day everyone!! :flower3:

Good Morning Everybody! Woke up very late ~ 6 minutes before Ryan was supposed to walk out the door for the bus. :scared1:

Agh, I hate time changes! It messes me up bad.

Gotta run ~ have a good day!

Ok, are you ready for the longest post EVER?!?! :lmao: Now that the tri is over, I am no longer self-absorbed and can respond to what has been going on in everyone else's lives these past few days.

Gold star indeed.

But that's just him being a man. And I don't mean that in a bad way. Or condescending (sp?). Just that the male brain seems to be much more logical and detached than the female emotional brain. :grouphug: Not that either one is more right or wrong than the other- just different. Ok, so maybe you might benefit from "compartmentalizing" a bit more now and then, and perhaps he'd be well served if he allowed himself to see how each segment of his life can influence the others.

LIZ--sorry about Greg and that he doesn't get it. Really. Just sorry. And total GOLD star PLUS a Goddess Crown for how you handled it! I quoted Nancy here because I think she just nailed it. When Kel first got sick, my friend Dan called and invited me out for beers. (Tennis pro Dan ;) ) So we get there, I am teary and a mess and he just gives me a hug, says it'll be ok, and then talks about the Michigan game for an hour. :confused3

Goat and Rainbow Trout. Mmmmm mmmm good.

:scared1: Lisa, I don't even have the words! :lmao:

Hey! Are you loving those shoulders now? You better be Erika wave winner. You better be.

Lisa, so I have a picture that I didn't post. Why? Because you can totally see the enormity of my shoulders and back. But I will post it. For you.

So Erika how did the TRI suit work???

It was FINE! I got the knack of the zipper (couldn't find the right type of string). Of course, as soon as I got to the event, I had to use the bathroom, and since I had some time, I figured I would just deal with or ask someone for help if I had to do. And it was fine. And it was GREAT at the transitions! It totally held the girls in place for the run, which was the main reason I bought it.

The dancing banana? :scared1: Hurry, just get it off of me!!! :scared:

Now, that being said, I do not care for the dancing banana. I don't hate it, but don't care for it because every time I see it, all I hear is "Peanut butta jelly, peanut butta jelly, peanut butta jelly and a baseball bat." And I die a little inside. :sad2:

FINALLY! Someone gets it about the banana! I have said it since the first volume of this thread! That thing just FREAKS ME OUT! Thanks, Roddy! :goodvibes

Listen. Thanks for getting it. It just made me feel really bad. Like, if I had just tried I'd be fine! And it's not that easy, and I thought I was doing good. Feeling it, owning it, moving forward.

I do the best I can. I just, no matter how well intentioned, need to be told that if I just did x it would all be fine.

I can't stick my mom in a box. And I wouldn't want to.

I think he has a point, like Nancy said. And for most other issues I would agree with him. But I'm not going to police my feelings.

You ARE doing great processing it all, Liz. I would be FAR more worried if you never talked about it, kwim?

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I found the intro on Page 1 and am posting mine here.

Hi Cathy and WELCOME! I am so sorry to have ignored you. I have been self-absorbed! :rotfl2: I think you will fit in perfectly around here! And me and Lisa (Princessrunner) are from Maine. And LisaViolet is from CA as well. And we have some NYers who are close to the CA border as well.

I'll let you off the hook for now, but I will grill you soon. :rotfl2: We need to know EVERYTHING here!

EriKa - loved the race report! So exciting to read. Was it cold riding the bike wet? How far was the ride? How far was the run? Hilly? Was this in your "town"? Did J and the Kids come? Did you and your mom ride together?

Cathy - welcome! I am the same as you. I lost 70 lbs in 2003. Down to 155. Had a baby. Lost that weight. Looked great in 2005. Then for the next 3 years stuffed back on 40 lbs. Arrgh. I am so disgusted with myself. (And this is the story I've been telling for a year now. One of these days my disgust, my head, my heart, and my appetite will line up and I'll be a losing machine.)

Night all.

I was actually completely done with the tri before my mom even started. Which turned out to be great. Not only could I cheer for her, I was her assistant at the transitions. She would have had a really hard time transitioning otherwise. Everything was basically flat. Some basic rolling hills on the bike, but nothing major. It was gorgeous here. Sunny and 50! So the temps were perfect. And that tri suit dried super fast! And I had layers if I needed them. This wasn't in my town, but only about half an hour south of here. So an easy distance. And no, J and the kids did not come. At my request. Seeing/hearing them at the transitions would have just gotten in my head and thrown me. And having them at the finish would have meant I couldn't get my mom prepped for the swim. So it worked out really well this way. My mom was there so I didn't feel "alone." And J and the kids and I celebrated when I got home.

As for the second part of your post. YES. It will all align for you. You know that and I know that. 90% of this thing is timing. I am convinced of it.

Stacey--glad you are off pain meds!

Steph--glad you moved your computer!

Paula--we hit an UnderArmour outlet yesterday, too! (We went to Kittery on a major shopping spree after the tri.) OMG, Mecca! I was in heaven. (Liz, LisaPR, and Steph take note...there is a UA outlet in Kittery!)

But actually, Kittery was SAD. SO many closed up shops and store fronts.

Today I woke up S.O.R.E. OMG, I hurt. My shoulders in particular are killing me! I guess I really did rock the swim! :rotfl2: Did I mention that I shave THREE MINUTES off my training time? That is huge! So I must have been hauling booty. My glutes also hurt, though I can't figure out why. And my calves! All over body ache. Well, I put my body through its paces yesterday, that's for sure!

Ok, time to get some work done. I will be on and off all morning, though. But it is Monday, which means I have to do time up on campus this afternoon and evening. Bleh.

LisaV, this is for you. It is really hard for me to post this pic. And I will do my best not to delete it. I have a bunch of layers on here, so there is some extra padding, but you can definitely see that classic swimmers' V-back that I have. See? Told you my back was BROAD. And you all thought I was exaggerating! :scared1: I mean, look at how freaking WIDE I am. Scary! :rotfl2: And if you look at the other pic of me, in the WISH shirt after I just finished, you don't notice it from the front at all, or not nearly as much.

Good Afternoon!

ERIKA - Your pictures are fantastic. Very awesome that you did the tri with your mum. Just how cool is she!

CATHY - Welcome :cool1:

Ok, I'll do an update too!

Name, Age, and Family ~ Kelly (27) married to Alan (27) since August 2008. No kids, no pets!

Weight Loss Program, History and Current Goals ~ I have rejoined WW. I have used it before and lost almost 40lbs, which I kept off until after the wedding. I then regained around 15lbs. Thanks to WW and the wonderful support of this thread I have lost 10lbs and am 5lbs away from my target.

Favorite Exercise and Healthy Snack
I would rather do exercise at home than the Gym. Gym folk scare me with how fit they are :rotfl:
I do a Disco Dance DVD and use the cross trainer.
Favourite snack - Sugar Free Jelly. 0 points on WW and stops the sugar craving!

Favorite Indulgence
Tin of Sin. Anything in it!

Best Disney Pixie Dust/Magic Story
I don't have a Disney Pixie Dust or Magic story - sad I know! So I'll tell you a nice Honeymoon story. We went on a Nile Cruise for the first week of our honeymoon and it was fabulous! We didn't tell the staff/reception etc that is was our honeymoon, but it was mentioned once in passing to some other guests we were chatting to, who were celebrating their 30th anniversary. Well in the restaurant on the last night we were surprised by the whole of the waiting/reception staff with a honeymoon cake and they sang us a song :lovestruc

Final results are in--

Mom WON her age group! First place! :cool1:

I managed a top 10 finish in my age group, so that is ok. If I had nailed my run, I would have placed third, though, so it is a bittersweet end! (There are monetary prizes for top 3 in each age group.) I came in 25th overall for women (out of about 150). Next time, right? :rotfl2:

P.S. I beat every single one of the women in the 18-29 category! THAT is worth something! Totally schooled those 20-somethings!

Look who is kicking some 20 something butt.... that is awesome.

Yeah Mom for winning her age group!!!! :cool1: :woohoo:

Totally awesome and goddess crowns are well deserved for both of you!!!

Not much going on here this morning. Overslept this morning so it is taking me a bit longer to get in the groove this morning (yuck). JC weigh in is tonight - looking forward to it and then cardio workout and grocery shopping (don't you all wish you were me tonight - ha...).

Back in mainlining my morning cup of tea and then to actually get some work done.

I'll check in a little later,
Paula

I still think you are exaggerating. If you are wide, then I have no hope!

Just remember, "wide" petite girl, you make us large folk feel like a beached whale...

I think I have another game scheduled now, Sunday in Charlotte at the NBA arena!! Wt h?? This one is free, too, details tbd.

Name, Age, and Family

Erika, old as dirt apparently, married to Jeff with 3 kids ages 6, 8, and 9.

Weight Loss Program, History and Current Goals

Well, there is a lot to say here, but I will do my best to scale it down. Lifelong jock, though my weight went up and down +/- 20 pounds all through HS and college. Aerobics instructor and fitness trainer through grad school and was a teeny tiny size 2 for years. Had 3 kids in 3 years, stopped all exercising and packed on weight. Kept weight on well past pregnancies. Started running in 2008 and haven’t stopped. Workout all the time now and have 10 pounds to go before goal.

Favorite Exercise and Healthy Snack

RUNNING. And I NEVER thought I would say that. Healthy snack? I don’t know that I have one. As a vegetarian, I eat a ton of fruits and veggies daily and basically have a healthy eating lifestyle.

Favorite Indulgence

Pizza. And alcohol. Word.

Best Disney Pixie Dust/Magic Story

I have one and it is really good. But I still can’t get through it without crying. Maybe someday I will share it.

If you are old as dirt, than I am what, old as the roots given that I am not that far behind you.... :rotfl:

Be proud woman - you just finished a tri with your mom no less. Age is certainly not going to stop you!

Where the hell is everyone today???

Nancy? Liz? Lyz? Amy? All of the Lisas? Sarah? Steph?

Sorry! I was...

AT THE GYM.

Spin class! The instructor greeted me enthusiastically by name and said she had missed me. Isn't that nice? :goodvibes After the class, she stopped me, we shared war stories (her son DIED of a brain tumor years ago. How AWFUL is that? ) and she said she'd pray for my mom.

Then I went to buy a water bottle - Paula's exact one - and vitamins and extra D for active women - that's me, didn't you know - and then new running shoes. And then home to shower and eat my veggie burger.

I am Erika's disciple! :rotfl2:

Okay, love you all, gotta go get the kids from school. Be back in 20.

So. Have to go to bed so I can exercise tomorrow. Oy to the vey. This will pay off, right?

Oy to the vey :rotfl: That's awesome.

I took Shelby prom dress shopping yesterday. She tried on soooo many dresses.

Glad you were successful in the dress shopping. We went on Saturday, and found dresses for my daughter and her friend. The friend's mom was so happy to have her daughter actually try this stuff on -- it is so not her thing!! They both looked great.

Still, I am pleased overall for my first tri!

Oh, and by the way, I WON MY WAVE. First place for women in my wave! :lmao:

Congratulations!!!! So excited for you -- good job! :worship:

Listen. Thanks for getting it. It just made me feel really bad. Like, if I had just tried I'd be fine! And it's not that easy, and I thought I was doing good. Feeling it, owning it, moving forward.

Oh, Kelly. I saw an interview on youtube with the new guy that will be playing the Doctor's next regeneration. He's definitely excited and respects the role, so I'll give him a chance before I get to disappointed. I hope he get's a hair cut though, he looks like Edward Scissorhands right now.

I'll have you know that because of you and Kelly, my husband and I have been watching Doctor Who episodes that we get on dvd from the library. We should probably be exercising instead of watching tv, you know!

Fantastic!

What a gorgeous weekend - it hit close to 80 degrees yesterday, which was perfect for Caylin's softball practice. We were running around all weekend, so it sure wasn't relaxing but still fun.

I plan to spend the week trying to undo the damage from eating and drinking too much all weekend. We cooked up a storm yesterday, so are set for dinners for the week -- which is good, as we have evening activities almost every night.

Hope you are all having a great day!!

Afternoon everyone! I am so with the poster who mentioned a fitness instructor greeting them by name and saying that they had missed them; I anticipate that happening when I go back to my kickboxing class. And spin classes:worship: ...WOWZA...I swear there is NO better way to get good legs than spin class. A couple times I honestly felt like I was going to collapse, but then you just pass that point and the euphoria is awesome!

 Here's a question...does anyone else have a SO who is trying to improve his/her fitness along with you? My SO works 12-hour shifts 4 days on, 4 days off (day-day-night-night). He REALLY wants to get fit, and has a gym membership (different gym than mine), but like a lot of people has bad eating habits. How do you encourage a loved one without making them feel like you don't like them the way they are, but while supporting them in their efforts? It's really hard!
