Steph--WOO HOO on the loss! Way to go! You are making GREAT progress!
I like your choices--nice job! My husband is not a fan of oak, so we don't have any in our house.

Our floors are maple and all cabinetry is cherry, so we have a mix of woods going on in every room!
I am officially CAUGHT UP with work! Phew! Things should regulate now. I will still have my daily stuff to do, but I shouldn't end up overwhelmed again (well, till fall that is!

)
BIG news at work for me! I got offered a sabbatical position! Ok, for those that don't know...a sabbatical is a specific type of leave-of-absence for a professor. You are given an entire semester "off" from teaching and all responsibilities and you still get paid your full salary for the entire time. During that time "off" you are supposed to be engaged in some type of research, educational endeavor, and so on. Basically, something that is going to help you grow academically and the like. Another option is to go be a visiting faculty member at another university for the semester.
So, anyway....I was offered an Educational Consultant position at......DISNEY!!! For the Spring 09 semester....so, January - June (as in 6 months from now)! Now, this is by NO MEANS a "done deal." First, the university has to approve the appointment. That isn't a problem in terms of working for Disney...the issue is with timing. I have to get my paperwork in by LAST April, so I missed the first deadline. There is a second deadline in July and I may not even be able to get all of my paperwork in by then in order to get approved by the University. (If I miss the deadline again or if they say that I can't even request the leave since I am so late, I can put it in for the fall semester, but I would way rather be there in January as opposed to the fall when it is gorgeous in Maine.)
The other issue, of course, is my family. It means pulling the kids out of school and moving them down there for 6 months (and I would home-school them for that half of the year). My mom has already agreed to come down with me to help with the kids and all of that. She has a Ph.D. as well, so she would be a huge help not just with babysitting but also with the home schooling. And then there is Jeff. What to do??? He COULD come down for long stretches of time and work from home (that is absolutely acceptable with his boss), but I don't know if he WOULD be willing to. He could come back up one week a month or something to deal with the house and also work from his office up here, etc.
Lots to think about!
What would YOU do? This is a major dream for me. Not only is it Disney, but it is working in The Seas with the dolphins, which as you all know, is what I used to do and is my passion (marine mammal behavior). Is it worth uprooting the kids? Or should I forget about stuff like this until they are out of the house?
Try to give me an honest opinion here. I know it sounds all great and wonderful, etc. But think of the reality of this. All of the details of moving and uprooting 3 kids, for 6 months, and having to home-school them and all that goes along with that. Having some sort of apartment to live in...would have to find something furnished and short term, blah blah.
