In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Hi Everybody! I just scanned the postings and will respond later (gotta get some work done first).

Goals, goals ~ no clue. I started this becuase I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. Meaning my blood sugar was normal, but insulin through the roof. My doc told me to follow a low bad carb diet and pointed me in the South Beach direction. I only wanted to do this, so that I felt better and the weight has been a big bonus. I started out weighing 232 lbs and I am down to 191 since mid-July. I'm short too, so I know that doesn't help. Before kids, I was a size 4/6 and weighed in the 120 range. I kinda thought 150 would be a good area, but everything I have seen says it's too much for my height 5'4".

I'm to the point where my insulin is in check, and I can have treats without hurting it. I don't have the dizzies or severe headaches from it anymore either.

See ya in a few hours.

Okay, so I was totally joking about the Maine bashing thing.

Ha! I figured you were joking. Mainers have a wicked sense of humor.

(E - did you like my used of the Maine slang wicked?)

Maybe grand children are the problem! :rotfl: BIL and SIL want to start trying immediately after the wedding, me and DH want to travel the world first and what will be will be. We are not actively thinking of children at the moment! MIL is desperate for grandkids, I mean DESPERATE! maybe I should buy her a puppy! :lmao:

By All Means - travel the world first!!!!!!

Reminds me of a quick story. Years ago, when Slimfast first came out....my father had a secretary. She did the Slimfast diet for MONTHS and didn't lose weight. She mentioned it to him, saying "I just don't understand why I'm not losing weight. I have a Slimfast every day WITH my lunch" :headache:

Morning all...

I had a great day yesterday with the kids...went to Treyner's scrimage for soccer and could not believe the team he is on...amazing...they are so good...I might just go to Chicago 2 weekends in a row to see them play...not much longer to watch him ya know...ugh...gonna get weepy now...

Carsyn and I had a great talk and we are going to go to the Y at a designated time daily...with a friend of hers...just easier to stick to a schedule...

Baylor is getting stronger every day...he has been on skates now 3 times...but blisters on his graft site will prevent him from re-joining this yars hockey I am afraid...but soccer cleats don't seem to bug him so that might give him some outlet...

We then....went to pick out a puppy...1 1/2 hours away...

yup...a puppy...we are getting a golden retriever and there were 3 boys to pick from...and they decided on the chubby one...who is twice the size of the others...paws are huge...named him Tank...soo flippin cute....never seen a chubby retriever before...his coat will be a dark red...just pretty...we pick him up in 2 weeks...this has been a huge conversation amongst this house...and a lot of education and thought...2 months worth of reading and training ourselves etc...it is a good choice...and something we will all work on together...will post pics in a few weeks...

Anyway...I have been totally uploading all calories on sparkpeople...loving it...will post yesterdays totals later...

Need to go look up what is up with Harry...have not seen any news lately...trying to get into a moment of what I can control and all...and now I am curious...

Dan comes home tonight...soo excited to see him...he is really my best everything...nothing feels the same when he is not here to share it with...and that just keeps amazing me every day...

Have an awesome day everyone...off to make home made Italian Night....:lovestruc

Okay, so I was totally joking about the Maine bashing thing. Sorry everyone did not get it. I really don't care what you bash or don't bash, if you are snarky or not snarky. Sorry you all took that wrong.

Nah, they're just jealous! Cause we live amongst awesomeness! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Okay good. I thought maybe you were serious! I was totally kidding on the Maine thing in the first place. :goodvibes

I just worry that my snarky can get taken wrong sometimes. I never mean to be mean, just playing around.

You and E are like superwomen to me. And I am NOT kidding or snarky about that. Fitness and healthy eating goddesses. :worship:

That would be great! I'll hold you to that! :rotfl:

Congratulations to your Cousin and his fiancee!
When I reached my target weight the first time it was 10% of my body weight. Depending on how much you have to lose that is always a pretty good place to start.

Cyprus seems to be a really popular place for UK Weddings, its fun! Plus, its a holiday as well!

I hope time mellows out the in-laws. On her day MIL is great. Time will tell, im sure I'll win her round eventually, Im here to stay! :rotfl:

Maybe grand children are the problem! :rotfl: BIL and SIL want to start trying immediately after the wedding, me and DH want to travel the world first and what will be will be. Kat. You are a rock star. If anyone deserves to sit at the popular table its you. You invited me over here, made me feel welcome and you love Flack. I don't know what you could possibly do to make yourself appear any more awesome to me!

Dawn - Horizontal mambo. That made me laugh so hard I swear I thought i'd given myself a hernia!

Cyprus sounds wonderful. When I lived in Europe I never made it that far east.

Yeah, I fought the kid battle for a while and my parents and in-laws have given up now. Thankfully the brothers on each side have satisified the grandchildren itch. Mr Kat and I are avowedly child-free.

And thanks. :goodvibes

Well. If I were accounting for my wine in my "points" that would be a bit of a different story. I'm not. It's been "in addition" to my food. Which is clearly NOT going to get me the results I desire

DUH. :lmao: OK. So. Here's ME. Doing practically the same danged thing.:sad2:

Now that Amy has completed her 1/2 marathon, I hereby nominate HER for DD (designated drinker) for a while ;)

I *still* say that there must be something about the air there...because you and Erika have got to be 2 of the most productive people on the planet

I didn't make bread yesterday....but I did make peanut butter/oatmeal cookies

Nancy, how many points are you supposed to have in a day? Just curious. I think I figured out at one point that I would be in the 22-24 range?

I hear ya on the alcohol. That was one (of many) things that killed me over the last 4-6 months. Mine gets compounded by the fact that it makes me want to eat more.

See ya in a few hours.

I am 5'8" and 150 is my final goal, so at 5'4 you may want your final goal to be lower. However, it totally depends on you and how you feel at that weight. It might be good to have that as a first goal and then reevaluate when you get there?

Your loss is great btw. I bet you feel SO much better! I went from 218 to 160 but have crept my way back up to the 180s over the last half of last year.

Lyz and I are both within range of your weight and are going to be accountablility buddies to see the 150s before summer, jump on the train!

Oh, and one final thing. I don't think anyone here is going anywhere. Just my outlook on life sometimes. Okay?

Kat, email me your weight and I'll tell you your points. Based on height, weight, age. I am at 22 right now. When I hit the 150's I'll be 21. At 5 7 and in the 170's I was 23. 180's 24, 190's 25.

It's pretty easy to use, the point system.

I have te meal down I am going to make tonight...now need to enter it into spark people to see if I can eat anything else throughout the day...:lmao:

Here is a serious question...what if these recipies do not have calories/nutrtion at all...is there a place to go to input all ingredients and then break down for the amount it is supposed to serve...? So I have an idea what to enter into spark people?

Thanks...and officially down to 243.0 today...heading down...not going back up thank you...

It feels really good...

Aimee, I think 150 sounds good. Get there, see how you feel. You can always revise in process! I do it all the time!

Dawn, I love goldens. They are my favorite. Is it purebred? Did you get it from a big breeder or a one-liter-per-year breeder? How are the hip problems in that line? BTW, the homeopathic stuff works well for the goldens when older. I had two I took care of and one had severe hip problems and the homeopathic stuff helped a lot. More common now, I think. Probably preventative stuff, too. My babysitting goldens were show dogs, though, field and retrieving show, not the trotted out dog show type. So they worked a lot and perhaps it was their line of field show that bred in the hip problems. What sweet dogs. And so trainable. You can literally train them to heel off a leash.

Are you training yourself or hiring someone? Is he home now or coming home?

Off to babysit the pregnant one. (Her husband is away, we are on call.) Family watching the Giants/Eagles game here. Oh, joy. The food. Must hide my mouth.

I am probably about 24 then, since we are pretty close in height and age.

Here is where Kat comes clean. Remember when Kat came clean??

I just weighed. 184.8. That is over a lb down from last Thursday. But, that means that since July 1, I gained 25 lbs. Isn't that nice?

Carsyn and I had a great talk and we are going to go to the Y at a designated time daily...with a friend of hers...just easier to stick to a schedule...

I find it easier to have an exercise schedule, makes it much easier to stick to. That way, if the mood takes me and I do extra exercise (:lmao: ) its an added bonus!

Baylor is getting stronger every day...he has been on skates now 3 times...but blisters on his graft site will prevent him from re-joining this yars hockey I am afraid...but soccer cleats don't seem to bug him so that might give him some outlet...

Great to hear!

Dan comes home tonight...soo excited to see him...he is really my best everything...nothing feels the same when he is not here to share it with...and that just keeps amazing me every day...

Have an awesome day everyone...off to make home made Italian Night....:lovestruc

I guess we won't see you for a while then! :rotfl:
Ooh, home made Italian...making me drool!

Cyprus sounds wonderful. When I lived in Europe I never made it that far east.

Where in Europe did you live? That is so cool!

Yeah, I fought the kid battle for a while and my parents and in-laws have given up now. Thankfully the brothers on each side have satisified the grandchildren itch. Mr Kat and I are avowedly child-free.

Well my brother and his fiancee had a baby girl in September, so thats my parents satisfied! Just have to hang on for BIL and SIL (and it WILL happen, they have a plan and they are sticking to it) and the In-Laws will be satisfied, then me and DH are free, free I tell you!

And thanks. :goodvibes

No need for thanks, I just speak the truth.

I hear ya on the alcohol. That was one (of many) things that killed me over the last 4-6 months. Mine gets compounded by the fact that it makes me want to eat more.

Alcohol is the kicker for me. I don't go out and drink all that often surprisingly enough, but over the past two months I seem to have constantly had a drink in my hand :rotfl: And, im a lightweight where alcohol is concerned, so one glass and Im face down in a pizza!

Thanks...and officially down to 243.0 today...heading down...not going back up thank you...

It feels really good...

You know what, that deserves a dance from me too

Kelly, I lived in Barcelona, Spain. I spent my sr yr in college there, '96-97. I also took a college choir trip in '95 to the UK -- London, Cambridge, York, Kent (not in that order). My college was really into branching horizons so they made such things very affordable through fundraisers and such, and the yr abroad was the same tuition and fees as a yr here.

My parents gave me a Eurorail pass for xmas that year and a friend and I did Rome, Florence, Venice, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam. Also spent a weekend in Switzerland and one in Paris. And before anyone thinks this sounds glamourous, remember we were backpacking students living on like $10-15 a day. Lots of hostel-hopping, staying with other friends who were spending their yr abroad in other cities, tuna, water, and bread. We allowed one meal in each country (except Vienna where the $7 piece of cake was all we got).

Loved the one drink and face down in a pizza. SOOO true for me!!

And the dancing banana... :scared:

That sounds great (hostels and no food included! :rotfl: )
York is an hour away from me - I love that place!

Are we not loving the dancing banana? I have to say - there is something quite sinister about it...
:lmao:

I'm to the point where my insulin is in check, and I can have treats without hurting it. I don't have the dizzies or severe headaches from it anymore either.

That's awesome. :thumbsup2

not much longer to watch him ya know...

I know. It *kills* me to think about it some days. :scared: Ok..well..not TREYNER...but my own son

yup...a puppy...we are getting a golden retriever

:faint:

Now THERE'S a challenge I so am not up to.

Nah, they're just jealous! Cause we live amongst awesomeness! :rotfl2: :lmao:

totally green with envy. For real.

Cyprus sounds wonderful. When I lived in Europe I never made it that far east.

I never made it that far east either. :sad2:

Wait. Never mind..Come to think of it....I never lived in EROUPE.

Nancy, how many points are you supposed to have in a day? Just curious. I think I figured out at one point that I would be in the 22-24 range?

I don't have the actual WW *stuff* in front of me....but...I get my daily number, which is like 19 or 20...then there's the "weekly" points that they allow you to use "however". Some people *save* them for splurges, etc...I divide them up so that I get an extra 3 or 4 per day. Then there are the exercise points. I'm what you call an "intense" exerciser (shocking, I know  ) and I get anywhere from 3-6 points per day for that. I like to average about 27 or 28 quality points...

But the wine? Not what I would call "quality" points. :sad2: And honestly? In 1 glass of wine, I'm probably drinking anywhere from 6 to 8 ounces - or an additional 4 points or more PER GLASS.

Now I have to go pull out the info again.

Here is a serious question...what if these recipies do not have calories/nutrtion at all...is there a place to go to input all ingredients and then break down for the amount it is supposed to serve...? So I have an idea what to enter into spark people?

I have software that does if for me. I can enter the recipes into my "cookbook" and it figures it all out. :wizard: Magical. (and eye opening  )

Liz - the dog is purebread...have seen both parents and yes...each dame is only allowed one litter a year...we had a town family we knew who got one from this farm...they are very reputable and have been raising goldens for over 40 years. Beautiful acreage....and they have a very informative website. They do not post puppies up for purchas or adoption until they are ready...they also started Golden Doodles a year ago...but after explaining our family...they recomended the retriever.

We spent over 2 hours with the puppies...but at 5 weeks they are still pretty little...Tank was wide awake most of the time...curious about shoes, smells etc...their was a smaller red one...he was biting everything in sight already...and then a petitte yellow one whom I fell in love with...slept the whole time...but the boys said it looked too feminine...:rotfl2: which it totally did...

I grew up in a hunting house with pure bred black labs...and they were also in shows...but Chad was a farm guy with no dos in the house ever rule...so this will be the first time for us to actually have a full fledged family dog like I would like...

There is a local gal named "Katie K9" and she is awesome...we will go to her classes when Tank is able...bought her training books already and have all of us listen to her show every Sunday afternoon...

She actually just published a cook book for making home made dog food vs buying it...and she feels that there is not the need for all te shots that vets push on dogs...rabies, worms etc. yes...but she is a proponent of a more natural diet for dogs and their care...I like her a lot...

She fully believes in training the kids and the dogs...last week she was telling a lady whose kids (age 4/6) would not leave the dog alone when it was eating...to use a spray bottle on the kids like you do a dog/cat when it is not behaving...she said...the kids need to be trained just like the dogs...no means no...and they need their alone time so no one gets bit...often when kids get nipped they are antagonizing the dog...and then blame the dog...

She also suggested more one on one time with the kids for the dog with the mom...training times...so the kids could get interaction they want...with a purpose for the dog...then they would be more abt to leave the dog alone until training time again...

Anyway...they allowed us to come out there to pick the first one and microchip it before they are picked over by pick up time...I contacted them through our friends after Baylor was burnt...knowing a good companion dog would be great for him...taking walks...etc...will help him keep moving in the right direction...

The kids needed to make sure things were picked up for 2 months before we would discuss it again...since puppies would be into everything...cat litter taken care of w/ no arguments etc..This is a responsibility....and nit just mine...so I wanted to make sure they were 100% on board...

I also used this time to educate them on puppy mills..we did a lot of research...visited "mall pet stores" and noticed the lack of knowledge about the background of the animal etc...

I know they thought I was being overprotective at first...but then...they realized all the responsibility in even picking out the right dog from the get go...

We left the house...talked in the car about the pros and cons of each puppy...and then called them back...

I tel ya...they will love walking him...playing with him etc...but he will be massive...I think Beethoven would have been a good name!

I forget, how close are you to goal? Based on your pictures I would think pretty close.

And what is this software of which you speak?

I do it the old fashioned way, add up the ingredients and divide by the serving size.

Dawn! I'm so excited for your new pupster!!!! I remember picking up my little pumpkin in late august, she was so little at 11 lbs and just adorable. We weighed her this morning and she is 63 lbs, she's such a horse lol. You will just love the puppy i'm sure of it! (and hey, TRUST ME, you will get a bunch of exercise chasing the darn thing around the house when he starts eating things he shouldn't!)

Hi everyone...

I am back home after one of the more cr@ppier weekends I've had in a while. The tension that is present on this non-profit board of directors that I am part of is just overwhelming and downright silly. I am at the point where I am questioning why I keep subjecting myself to it. The mission of the organization is a good one, but I can still volunteer if I wanted to but not at a leadership level. To top things off, after taking care to make good food choices all weekend and working out last night at the hotel, I still stress ate my way through McDonalds' fries and a burger today. I can't even say that it tasted good (it didn't) but somehow it made me feel a bit better. Now I am just pissed at myself for stress eating crap. I am planning on a JC lunch entree and lots of veggies for dinner and a ton of water to get the sodium from the McD's out of my system. :confused3

Puppies are so cute.... but man are they work. We had one purebred dog in my life the rest were all rescued dogs who became such lovable mutts. Have fun with him and train him early.

Did I tell you guys what happened with our dog while we were in Disney? We got a call from where we boarded him telling us to send someone to get him because he was so upset. After three days, he stopped eating, sleeping and couldn't get himself to relax. We had to frantically beg our neighbors to take him home and take care of him while we were gone. And yes, he is spoiled rotten and has total separation anxiety when we are not with him.

I am off to try and update my laptop. It has been running wierd lately and needs to TLC.

Talk to you all later,
Paula

As of last Friday's weigh in I was 153. Not bad all things considered...but not where I WAS and not where I want to be. At one point in time, I was down to 139. That, however, is not a weight that is easily maintainable for me. My body is quite happy in the 145 range, so ultimately that's what I'm shooting for.

For WW...I follow the "old school" points plan - the original. I know they've changed the system, tweaked it here and there - they are running a business. They HAVE to keep updating to keep people coming thru their doors. However, the original plan has worked well for me - I'm comfortable with it, and so that's what I do. God forbid I should ever lose my "points finder" slide rules (I have 2)....I will be one lost, sad, sorry soul

The software I use is a cooking thing. It's from the Taste of Home Cookbook/Magazine product line.

http://www.amazon.com/Cookn-with-Ta..._1_2?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1231712149&sr=8-2

Has waaay more features than I ever use, including recipes, etc...not *diet friendly* however! This particular product wasn't necessarily intended for weight loss/low calorie cooking. But it does have that nifty feature where it lets you enter your own recipe into the "cookbook" and breaks it down for you - however you want. You can do a total recipe amounts, per serving amounts....whatever. It gives all the info you'd find on a nutrition label...calories, fat, protein, fiber, various nutrients, etc.

If it doesn't have an ingredient that you want in it's database, you can add it. It's really pretty cool. I've had it for a loooong time now- probably 5 years or more....I'm sure there must be others out there that are similar.

TRUST ME, you will get a bunch of exercise chasing the darn thing around the house when he starts eating things he shouldn't!)

We had dogs when I was growing up - so did hubby. But the road we live on isn't really "dog friendly"...as in...it's a busy, main road. That was always our *reason* that we gave for not having a dog. Kids always thought that they were missing out. Well..when DH and I were in Cancun, and our niece stayed here with the kids? So did her dog. A 1 1/2 year old yellow lab. My kids decided that they didn't want a dog after all!

I am back home after one of the more cr@ppier weekends I've had in a while.

Paula! So sorry to hear that your weekend was so lousy.

Yes - stress eating at McDonalds stinks. But you know what? I'd honestly be more upset if you had said "and it tasted sooooo gooood":lovestruc The fact that you didn't even LIKE it....that's AWESOME. Ok. So you ate it. But, if the urge ever hits you again, I think you'll be able to deny it. And look - you have a PLAN on how to move forward. Totally rockin' :thumbsup2

Sad & funny about your dog all at the same time! Yep. They got feelings too! Spoiled little buggar couldn't stand that you "sent him on vacation"

I have a nice pork roast in the oven. Smells DIVINE...Now - for my next trick - I'm going to finish making dinner, without having a glass of wine! (wish me LUCK! :guilty: )
