In Search of my Body...Not The One I ate...#3 "Crowning Goddesses As We Go"

Nancy, I will let you know how it turns out. Instead of using 1/2 cup of cream in the melted portion, I used 1/4 cup cream and 1/4 cup irish cream. I also added another dash when I was folding the chocolate into the whipped cream.

I think that I am going to frost it with more whipped cream with sugar and another dash of irish cream folded in. I am considering adding some cherries from cherry pie filling to the top as a garnish, wish I had fresh raspberries...

Also made three kinds of stuffing, peeled and cut up potatoes for the mashed potatoes, crushed the crackers for the oysters... so all I should have to do tomorrow is get up at about 8 to stuff and stick the turkey in the oven, then do that last 30-45 min of prep that is inevitable no matter what... boiling/mashing the potatoes, frying up the giblets for the gravy, etc. And yes, gravy = drippings + flour + giblets in my household. :)

Happy bday E! Nice chatting today.

My boss told us all to leave at noon today, but cleaning lady was coming so I hung around til 4 or so, when both boss IMed me and said GO HOME and CTO threatened to bodily close the office. Have I mentioned lately how much better this job is??

I won't be on again until tomorrow night, so Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Buckle Up.
This is me.
Catching up.

(did you like that Liz?)

It was a SURPRISE party. For me, for my birthday. It was totally fun. I have never had a surprise party before.

J and Karen have been working on it for a month. The fact that J did this is flat out overwhelming. He is anti-social, you know. But he called all of these people, booked our local bar, everything. And he was downright charming all night. And the WHOLE bar sang happy birthday to me. With a cake. It was so wonderful. About 30 people made it...including my parents. Plus people from both of the mom's groups that I am in plus my tennis team.

I will post more tomorrow. Time to pass out.

So this is still rocking my mind. You and I live alot of the same experiences and I so totally "get" how big this is. It's huge. I'm so happy for that.

I know Dawn. I was in an absolutely foul mood last night and boy did it show on the DIS. It took all my energy not to edit, edit, edit. See Lyz I'm trying not to edit out. But better on this thread than other lovely consequences.

Lisa, I do see that. And boy oh boy have you been a rock of this group lately. Such a positive light, you are.

Quick fly by from me. GREAT day with the family today. The kind of day that restores your faith in people and family and life and all of that.

All 5 of us spent the day in the yard (at 26*) getting ready for the first big snow tomorrow. We were all raking and picking up sticks and all having leaf fights and loads of fun getting our chores done. The girls were hilarious burying themselves up in leaves, etc. Just wholesome family fun.

And then, all of the men in the neighborhood (which is just 4, because remember the 5th house is vacant because they moved to Florida)--they all went over to the neighbor's house who moved and did their fall clean-up yard work. Raked the leaves, trimmed hedges, picked up down limbs, all of that sort of thing. And this really touched me. They are getting no credit for this. The folks who moved will never know or see what these guys did for them. They just did it because it was the nice and decent thing to do.

So today just made me glad that I live where I do, grateful for my friends, amazed by my husband, and in love with my kids. Word.

E - loved this!

Liz--glad you are loving your week-end. And yeah, I want to know the book, too!

Still waiting. (where is that toe tapping smiley?)

My food shocks you? That I am domestic enough to cook, you mean?

lol. Well kinda. I don't mean that snarky. You are such a study of extremes. With everything I know about you, songbird, hockey bad a$$, I suppose domestic goddess fits right in.

Saw Twilight. Loved it. My infatuation with Robert Pattinson has reached a whole new level. *swoon* :lovestruc Of course there were a couple of little scenes left out that I would have loved to have seen (nothing important to the plot), but overall I loved it and will probably see it at least 2 or 3 more times.

It's fun listing to you and Liz go on and on over this.

Lisa - I never took a word of what you said as selfish... I am over the moon thrilled that you feel comfortable enough to start letting your thoughts escape from that bottle that we all tend to overstuff. Feel free to empty away. I don't post my thoughts looking for reaction. I post more as a way to get them out of my head and work through them.

Word.

Paula, I didn't realize you even knew who the 'Canes were!! I think the Rats weren't doing very well because all of their players were here in Raleigh, since most of the 'Canes have been injured. The team isn't doing awful, just the game today sucked.

zzzz. snort. zzzz. opps, fell asleep there for a minute.

Before I go any further....today's points were 28. Had a couple of cookies tonight (oatmeal w/butterscotch chips) - warm, from the oven. Totally satisfied my need for a sweet *fix*

mmmm

:yay: Doesn't it feel great to be in the "zone"??? This morning I got on the scale - DH asked me what it said. My answer was "it says I've been working hard this week and eating carefully". I thought that was a good answer! :goodvibes

I think so too.

J is home all week, though, so that tends to gum up the works. We have a system around here, me and the kids, and when he is around during the week we all just get out of whack! Neither good nor bad...just out of whack and the system gets all fouled up.

Yes! Get it.

The reality is that we are not "true" fans at all. None of us (not even Jeff) watch any sports games on tv. Not sure how or why, but that is just how it is. On campus, I have total fun with it, though. Like, if students wear a Red Sox had or shirt on an exam day, I tell them it is an automatic 5-point deduction. OR...they can earn extra credit points if they write the phrase "Yankees Rule, Red Sox Drool" on their exam sheet. It is really fun and they like that I joke around with them about it. But I can't back it up at all...I have no real knowledge of what is going on in the sporting world.

Hi Lar Ious!

Thanksgiving traditions... when I was a kid, we always drove up to Rochester, NY to visit my aunt and uncle. Never a fun trip for me, as my cousins were 15+ years older than me and there wasn't much to do up there. My brother and I used to do snow dances in the hopes that Erie would get snowed in and we wouldn't be able to make it up there!

:rotfl:

Oh, I forgot one thing... I may wind up traveling this year after all. My mom's best friend is dying of cancer (morphine drip, hospice care deathbed vigil) and since I have Fri off, I may go up to be with her in Pittsburgh over the weekend if the end comes this week. Depends on timing and weather.

Sorry for your mom. Hard to watch your best friend die. I can't even imagine.

Amy - I loved Twilight. I am all obsessed and swoony and rereading the books now! Only one of us wasn't swoony, and she liked Carlise. So I told her she could have him as long as I got Edward. ;)

So Mol when to see Twilight yesterday with friends. She loved it. I let her go partly because you loved it so much.

k I am alive and well!:goodvibes
I haven't had two minutes to myself

I know things are crazy right now.

So I have spent way to much time with my husband because he has me eating and eating all the wrong stuff! you would think he would be supportive of my weight loss but NO he isn't! He loves to eat and loves to see me eat with him.

Yes, understand this. It's really sabatoging!

in other news Samantha bagged her first buck! ( shot and killed her first deer for you non hunters) It is a tiny 3 pointer. Tomorrow I eat lunch with Tyler in school for kindergaten thanksgiving dinner! YEAH my fav!

Go Sam! And EriKa, your respect had me rolling.

All went well at JC - lost 3 pounds this week... yeah!!!!

Job wise, I was told that I have a job and will continue to have a job for the forseeable future. Basically, I am on a protected list where even if things totally tank with the state, my company will find a place for me. My company boss explained that the big wig from the state doesn't really say what he means so it would explain my confusion. My company boss had just left a meeting with the state big wig and had received the list of those to be protected and I was very much on it. So, life is good for now...

Three things. 1. Yaay on the weight loss. 2. Great news on the job. 3. It's so hard to go on vacation!

This whole "I finished my Christmas Shopping" thing is making me CRAZY. How on EARTH can you be done????:confused3 ...

I agree and I think they are just showing off. Showoffs.

Kat, I will be all the way in Asheville for christmas.

Ahh the Biltmore. What a great tour.

I had an awesome time out by myself tonight shopping. It is amazing how much easier shopping is when you don't have a toddler pulling things off of racks and shelves!!

No Kidding!

WAKE UP!!!

Shut. It.

I have to admit that I am not havinga good day although I did not gain anything last night and refused to let myself eat into oblivion...

Progress!

I'm way too tired to catch up. I'm really just tired. I am going to rent that BWV Bview NY week reservation. Look how I have to see it one last time in print. ;) I'm very saddened. But it just wouldn't be responsible of me to go. I'm saddened because as I booked it day by day it was like playing the slots. And things were fine here then. And I saw it as a light at the end of a lot of emotional work ahead of me. Well I'm smiling thinking of how far I've come so that's a good thing. A lot of big decisions are necessary very soon. I"m very tired.

The parents conversation is making me cry.

Lisa - oh your vacation. So sad. Very sad.

The parents conversation, I have not had to straddle the fence yet of child and the parent to my parent all in one. To those of you facing these things.

...happy thanksgiving to anyone who might be headed out (or won't be online) for the holiday

Travel safely!

You too Stacey!

Okay, down 1.8 this week. All time low of 157.4. I am .6lbs from 80lbs down! And by golly, I am going to make that next week. Watch me!

Yaay Liz. That is awesome. And one more thing. Not enough idle, random chatter from you.

I am down to 241 today so just 3 more pounds and will be at 20 pounds total loss for the trip...not great at all but better than a gain ...and I am fitting into clothes I have not in a long while so that is okay...

Yes, again, progress and awesome.

We just dumped the POLY MK view and some other resorts resies that were spendy...and found a 2 bedroom condo for only $60 a night from a recomendation from a friend..saving us over $600 and right now the right decesion to make...

Well, for the best, even if it hurts.

Hey everyone,

I am having a much better day.

My JC consultant suggested that I keep a piece of paper on the counter and put a check mark down for each taste and then for every taste, put in a ten minute walk over the weekend.

Great suggestion.

Anywho, in catching up on my reading tonight, I see that some of these troubling issues are being discussed here on the board. Nice to know I'm not alone out there.

Now your getting it!

I It just irritates me that one can be so ... not sure of the word but RUDE comes to mind! And then to top it of Stephen feels that it is OK for him not to talk to me! and I am the rude one because I ignore him!

Steph - the holidays are hard, but when you don't have support, so much harder.

I have to be up EARLY for my 5K.

Amy - I don't know how you do it. I guess it must be in your blood. And EriKa and Nancys.

hi all! I'm home from another l-o-n-g day of baking! I rolled every single pie crust for every single pie in the last three days. My muscles are KILLING ME!

I bet! What a long day! At least you can just arrive tomorrow and you momma has the food taken care of. Even if the company is, blah.

My family, oh my, they ARE my best friends. I have to go to 3 places tomorrow, two for inlaw stuff and one for my family. I'd rather just spend the whole day with my family.

Just want to say Happy Thanksgiving! Let's remember it's a holiday, not a holiweek...exercise, drink our water, keep our heads straight. It's a great day to be with family and friends, and if we don't eat every morsel on the table, we'll look much cuter in our jeans on Friday!

Plus, we can always...save food for later, make the recipes another day if we crave them, and start over with our next meal.

Now remind me of this tomorrow, willya?

xoxo to all of you!!!

;) No kidding.

Kat - I bet your tired.

:thumbsup2 Remember all the fretting we did over leaving your last job with the snarky coirkers and idiot boss! That feels like it's so long ago.

Lyz. Glad you are back, girlfriend.

LOVE it when we all come back! Look at us! All back and during the worse time of the year to put US first. And here we are. We are first.

Really, that is what I am so thankful for. For learning how to put myself first, with all of you as companions on this journey.

Off to my 5K! BRRR. It's in the 40's!!

Happy Turkey Day!

:grouphug:

Amy

So we have 3 goddesses running their legs off this morning. Amy, Nancy, EriKa (and Cammie). :worship: :worship: Hope all goes as planned.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay,

Just have a minute online to say -

Happy Birthday Erika!!! Have an oh so wonderful day you.

And....

Happy, happy Thanksgiving to you all. Hope everyone has a lovely day!

***Jean loves your Thanksgiving. Football, football and football when I get home.:3dglasses And I do like football - very much. Just not hours and hours and hours...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIKA!

Perfect Liz. Love the "holi-DAY...not holi-WEEK". It's so easy to let myself fall off track this time of year. :thumbsup2

Sounds SO yummy Kat - and yes - fresh raspberries would be a great addition! (btw...have a white choc. rasp mousse recipe as well...:rolleyes1 )

Happy Thanksgiving!

:sad2: This goddess didn't run her race today. :sad1: I woke up with back spasms...I know it's just from working...doing two 12 hour days in a row of virtually nothing but standing & rolling dough takes it's toll on me ...all that repetative motion...so rather than do something stupid and risk injury (I *am* leaving for vacation on Saturday after all:woohoo: )....we went to the gym where I started on the elliptical to warm up, then cycled for an hour...while I watched the start of the race on TV

But Amy - no fear...I'll still drink for you today :goodvibes

Happy Thanksgiving one and all....and I for one, am very thankful for each and every one of you!

Erika -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

Hope you have a magical birthday!!!!!

(Now go run somewhere.....)

Paula

Happy Thanksgiving everyone....

OK - the bird is in the oven, and everything else is prepped and waiting for its turn in the oven so this gal is sitting back for a little while...

Hope you all are having a great day today....

Paula

Hey Everybody! I hope everybody has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. I've been saving up all week so I can enjoy some stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie. Yum! I can't wait to get out tomorrow to see what kind of deals are out there.

Take care!
Amiee

Hey Everyone!

5k was tons of fun! No PR (35:40), but I felt great while doing it and ran the entire thing. It was COLD for this FL girl. About 40 degrees. I wore the capris Erika recommended (Thanks, EriKa!!) and my race shirt under my long sleeve WISH shirt. 20,000 people more or less...Had some fun dodging strollers and dogs (who were not supposed to be in the competitive run but no one was really checking to see what color bib you had on), and almost had 2 face plants into the road due to those reflector things and a speed bump!!:scared1: :scared1: Saw a woman running in a sports bra (BRRRR) and 2 guys in bright green full body spandex suits..it even went over their faces!! I love people watching at these races!!

Lyz, Glad to see you back. Running was definitely NOT in my blood!! :lmao: :lmao: I used to hate it with a passion and still hate it sometimes, but most of the time I love it. If someone had told me a year ago I would be running an early morning 5K on Thanksgiving and a 1/2 marathon 3 days later, this would have been my reaction::rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Nancy, hope your back is better soon!!! (am glad you are still up for drinking for me) :goodvibes

Erika, Happy Birthday!!! :) :cool1: :dance3:

Everyone, :grouphug:

Cheers,
Amy

Hey Amy - dogs and strollers. and :scared1:. Interesting. Spandex - not sure it does anything for anyone. Good to hear about the race. Enjoy the rest of you day.

Lisa

Amy, glad the race went well!

E, happy bday.

I cooked my butt off today and was happily on the chaise with a beer by about 5PM.

Everything went swimmingly well on this end. I guess practice makes perfect, plus I have figured out a bunch of stuff to do beforehand (like peel the potatoes and cut them up the night before, and have everything but the oysters ready and in the fridge) so that prep the day of is minimal. The pumpkin layer cheesecake was a hit, but the chocolate mousse cake was a bit too rich to follow t-giving dinner.

Btw, I totally LOVE oven bags. So easy, perfect turkey every time, and since it is self-basting, no work at all. I salt the turkey, run a hand under the skin and salt/pepper there and put some pats of butter in there (used light butter this year and it worked very well), stuff it, shake a bit of flour in the bag and put the turkey in there, close the bag, and voila! perfect tender turkey and it does crisp the skin as well. My stuffed 13 lb turkey was done in 3 hours, too.

Plus you can pour the bag drippings right into the pan for gravy. I have another secret for non-lumpy gravy... shake flour and water together in a shaker or bottle until the flour is dissolved, and mix that into the drippings. Definitely cuts down on lumps.

I decided to eat what I wanted. Tomorrow is leftover day, and then Sat back to it. Even if it means a lb or two more on the scale this week, I am NOT giving up t-giving dinner and leftovers, it is about my only happy thing about the holidays.

Hope everyone's t-giving went well!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Amy, good job on the race!!!

Nancy, so sorry to hear about the back spasms. That SUCKS.

Erika, how was your birthday?

Kat, sounds like a very nice Thanksgiving.

I'm home. Thank God. The parents and inlaws drove me crazy at the end. Six hours of making conversation is too much for me.

Cozied up in bed, reading another book in the Twilight series, still obsessed with that. Hoping to wake up to a magically clean house tomorrow. Ha!

Exercised in the morning, tracked ALL my food today!

How did it go for all of you?
