I posted another thread similar to this a few days ago and it got little response so I changed it up a little. Has anyone ordered in room dining for dinner at AKL?? If so, how was it?? DF and I will be honeymooning there in January and are thinking of cancelling one of our dinner ADR's and doing in room dining one night instead.

I was wondering the same thing.. we are staying at AKL too..

DH and I stayed at AKL this September and ended up staying in one evening and ordered a pizza. Of course that wasn't very good, but it suited the purpose. There were a lot of basic items like a couple sandwiches and a burger or too. There were other food items from Jiko and you could get Zebra Domes from Boma. It was pricey. We were on the Dining Plan - Premium level and it cost us double coupons to eat in - it was 4 coupons but we didn't really care at that point. If I had to do it again I would order something other than pizza.

Hope this helps!:goodvibes

You can order anything off of the Jiko menu (for an added fee of course) and have it delivered to your room.

Room service has great ice cream sundaes. My dh loved to order them as a late night snack.

They have chocolate dipped zebra striped strawberries that you can order for a special romantic snack and other special order goodies. You can also have a zebra striped cake delivered (I think it's about $35 for the cake).

We really enjoyed AKL room service on our last trip. Maybe a little bit too much! ;)

A very romantic thing dh and I did was order a meal one night and sit out on our balcony watching the animals as we enjoyed it. That is a wonderful memory.

I would love to do this! I've been dying to eat at Jiko, but I know the rest of the family probably wouldn't appreciate it. Do you order it from room service, or would I call the restaurant directly?

Room service. They don't have the Jiko options listed (as of 9/2007) but in their in room dining guide they do have a little blurb posted about you being able to order off of the Jiko menu for a surcharge (plus delivery fee and included gratuity). All you need to do is take a peek at the Jiko menu while you are out and about in the hotel (or just look it up here on the DIS ;) ) and then push the private dining button on your phone and place that order the same way you would place any other in room dining order.

The lack of the Jiko menu printed up in the private dining guide is the only minor hassle to doing this...but if you know what you want you will be just fine! :thumbsup2

This past trip (9/07) I had the Chermoula chicken from Jiko in our room. It was so very tasty!

Thanks! I don't need to see the menu, I've got that thing memorized  .

If we are on the deluxe dining plan, what do they do regarding the extra fee?? Since Jiko is included on the dining plan??

Yep, a couple of times, but just appetizers and breakfast. The cheese plate is to die for and the pitas with various dips/spreads was good, too. Breakfast omelets were tasty and HUGE. :thumbsup2

It's not included unless you eat in the actual restuarant (in the deluxe plan) that I am aware of. If you have an allowance for room service credits in your plan then it would fall under that...but even though it's Jiko food...it's not considered a Jiko meal billing wise. It's billed through in room dining. The extra fee is the cost of ordering off of the Jiko menu via room service. They add the regular in room dining fee and gratuities on top of the other fee...however, to eat that food while watching animals roam or curled up on your bed....ahhh...it was worth it! ;)

We chose to just pay out of pocket rather then waste two table service credits on our dining plan for one in room meal (which on the 2007 dining plan is what it would have counted as). HTH.:goodvibes

We ordered room service our last night during our last vacation. We both had the prime rib from Boma (on the room service menu) and it was one of the BEST meals we had the entire trip. DH now wants a night set aside on our next trip just so we can order again.
