We're having a discussion about our upcoming trip, first trip without grandparents to sit for us and we would like to do V&A one night and will need a sitter. Very nervous about leaving DS (6) with a stranger, even though I've read all the sitters are screened and police checked. I did read that the Fairy Godmother Sitters are all mothers and grandmothers. Is that true?
Has anyone ever had a BAD experience with In Room Sitters?

We have used Fairy Godmothers on 4 trips and never had a problem. Yes, they are grandmother-aged women who bring age appropriate toys with them for your child. We are planning on using them again for our trip in September of this year. They have been just great with our daughter.

if your son is 6 then why not use one of the kids clubs. I would feel very uncomfortable leaving my child with a single adult, but I have no concerns about a kids club, I just feel safer with the group environment

We used the kids clubs at the Y&B and AKL and they were both superb.

I have read many positive experiences of the sitters, but I have also read one or two negative ones.

Thank you!
The Kids Club might be a good idea, we could do the early V&A sitting.

I say use the Kids' Clubs! There is accountability there, whereas when one sitter is alone with your child in a hotel room there is not.

I know that I could not enjoy my evening at all (even at V&A!) if I had any concerns about my child's well being. If you are "very nervous" as you say (and as I would be about using an in-room sitter!), I don't think you'd have much fun during your evening, and that would defeat the purpose of the whole thing. But the Kids' Club sounds like a great solution! :)

i, too, think kids' club is the way to go... i said it in another similar thread... there's that "safety in numbers" thing, plus accountability that a one-on-one doesn't offer, imo...

that being said, perhaps w/the early V&A's dinner, you two and ds can catch some fireworks on the way back to your hotel... imo it would be the perfect family ending to a split up evening, kwim?
