We in the early stages of planning a Feb 2006 trip to WDW (betweeen 7- 10 days). We are tossing around the idea of attempting a stay at BWV-Grandvilla :earseek: , renting points as we are not DVCers (at least not yet) :rolleyes1

We would be a large family group - 8 adults 4 children. :earseek:

I am thinking that since we would be dividing this amongst the 8 adults, it would be fairly reasonable price considering the accomodations we would be getting.

So I guess my questions are -
-how many points would we need to rent
-what do you love about BWV

As you can see in my signature, we have done WDW twice and both at Pop, so the BWV's is an upgrade (understatement, I know).

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Even if you split the bill 8 ways, it's going to be a hefty bill.

During early Feb-06 (2/1-2/15), it's going to cost you 676 points :earseek: for a week stay in a BWV Grandvillas and it's even more between the 16th~28th, 800 points per week.

Maybe you should look into buying DVC at those prices :teeth:

Not only is it a bit pricey, but for $8000 you could have half of a DVC minimum buy in paid for! Aside from that, there are only 7 GVs at BWV, and we are already nearing the 7 month mark for those ressies, so I doubt there would be any GV at BWV available on that length of notice.

For a GV, you also might want to consider SSR and OKW, just in case.

BWV has only a few GVs so they might get booked up more quickly. Since SSR and OKW have more GV units, you might consider them for back ups in case your BWV first choice doesn't come through. Good luck!

The other thing that someone has to add here (might as well be me) is to be very careful with a big group like that. These boards are full of horror stories from people who have included family, friends, etc. and then had them cancel out. For some reason, people seem to think it's your vacation and they are just tagging along -- so if they cancel it's no big deal.

Renting points is NOT like that.

You are going to have to pay a big slug of that (maybe all) up front, and unless you're independently wealthy, you'd better have everybody's money in hand (which is the direct opposite of "pledged") before you make any reservations.

Thank you all for your feedback. I greatly appreciate it and it has been helpful. With this type of monetary investment I wanted to get as much 'up front' info as I could.

Planning for a large group like ours can be tricky, but I wanted to present all possible options to everyone so we can make the appropriate choice that will have everyone feeling happy and comfortable about the trip.

Thanks again for the advice, it helped to put things into prespective.

If you can stand staying off site you might want to check out renting a vacation home. A couple of years ago friends repaid our DVC trip that we took them on with one of theirs. They rented a 4 bedroom house (it was about 1 mile back of the old Splended Chian park) and it was like around $200 a night, extra if they wanted the swimming pool heater turned on. For the price it really was a good deal.

But then you can't watch the DVC channel until you annoyed the heck out of your spouse. What fun is that? pirate:

The houses usually have a DVD or VCR, play the sales DVD over and over. That should cause the same effect! ;)
