In need of Healing Hugs and Pixie Dust

We have 13 days until we leave and I just came down with strep throat!
My friends think I should cancel but my kids are really looking forward to this trip and the change of scenery for a week. Here's hoping I recover quickly. I could use lots of healing hugs and pixie dust as I head back off to bed.

Hope you are feeling better and that no one else in your house gets strep.

If it makes you feel any better antibiotics work wonders for strep, and you won't be contagious anymore once you have been on them for 24 hours. You should also be feeling better within a day or so - if you are not, go back to the doctor.

I've had strep. Get yourself on the antibiotics and you should feel better in a few days. No way would I cancel the trip 13 days out. I would however quarantine myself from the rest of the family until you've been on the antibiotics a bare minimum of 24 hrs.

I agree that antibiotics will help a ton and suggest popsicles to help the throat feel better in the meantime.

I'd wait a tad longer before you cancel - assuming it won't interfere with refunds and such.. There's a good chance you could feel better in a few days..

Cancel, me thinks those friends may be a bit jealous...

Strep resolves itself within 3-5 days on the antibiotic, but remember you must take the whole course of antibiotic to totally clear it out of your system. Even with a 10 day course you will be off the antibiotics before you leave and should have absolutely NO problem going on vacation.

You'll be fine in 13 days. Take it easy for the next few days, drink plenty of fluids, take your antibiotic as ordered and FINISH THE WHOLE BOTTLE OF MEDICINE. Do NOT stop taking it once you are feeling better.

Another vote for you'll be fine.
My son and I both get strep and he's allowed(non contagious) to go back to school 18-24 hours after starting the antibiotics, and we both feel fine within a day or two.
Don't worry about it.

Thanks everybody. I am taking my meds and I have not allowed my family to be around me until tomorrow. That will be 48 hours. I appreciate all the love and great advice. I will finish my meds and party with the mouse!

Seriously! You'll be over the Strep Throat in no time.

I know someone that was going to the Caribbean the day after her DS got braces and people told her that she should cancel her vacation. People are NUTS!!

Strep is miserable, but I'll bet you'll be feeling better way before 13 days. Just be sure to take your meds and take it easy(as possible). You're going to be fine

OP: I wouldn't cancel the trip. As others have said, you need to be on the antibiotics for 24 hours to not be contagious anymore. So hide out in your bedroom or some where. I hope no one else in your family gets it.
