In need of DVC pixie dust!

So I went over the numbers with DH yesterday. Crunched them backwards and forwards, talked about "refilling the coffers" so to speak, after taking a big chunk out for a purchase. (We're not financing.) Bla bla bla. The bottom line is that after all is said and done, I am waiting for him to decide if it's a go or not. I told him that if this purchase gave him any worry about our finances then it wasn't right for us. But that I thought it was. :-) (Don't get me started on my DH and finances! We could be millionaires and he would still be concerned about our finances.) :-)

Anyway - I haven't heard from him today. He promised to really give it true consideration, and agrees that long term it makes sense. But it might put our dream house back a year, and that bugs him.

If anyone has any pixie dust to spare - could you blow it in my direction? I need all the help I can get. I keep checking my email every 20 minutes to see if I've heard from him. I can't stand the waiting!!!

I knew you guys would be sympathetic to my plight here. I hope I will be joining the ranks of DVC owners soon. Wish me luck!

Remind him the prices are only going to go up!! If you know, you're going to do it eventually. Doing it now will save money in the long run, especially if you're not financing. That's the stand I took with DH for an add-on. It worked;)

Many years ago my wife and I decided that email discussions regrading important topics was not a good form of communication.

Buying into DVC is really never a dollars and sense decision but an emotional/lifestyle decision. You can justify the numbers to "prove" either side of the buy/don't buy argument. With park tickets and travel it is an expensive commitment that you have to be ready to make.

Good luck, I hope it goes your way.

we were the same way, talked and talked for a few months. then we just decided to do it b/c it will only go up and we didn't want to loose 2008 points. we did finance it, but will get it paid off quicker than the term, so we are not worried about that. we just can't wait to start using it. since we did finance thru disney, it is tax deductable, so that is a plus, as far as financing it.

DH & I were very close to buying at BWV about 10 years ago. I won't even mention how much it was per point.:headache:

:woohoo: Just emphasize how much you'll be saving in the long run, and also highlight the quality family time in such luxurious accomdations! Good luck!

Don't forget, too, that annual member fees continue to go up as well. They've nearly doubled since we first bought. Just one reason why we have sold off about half of our points.

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes it took us a while to take the plunge as well - but for us it was the opposite - I was ready and DW was not... oh well. Here's to a successful you! :thumbsup2

I know it's hard to wait, but let him make his own decision. You have made your point and showed him the #s in black & white. It's a big purchase and you want to go into it with his full buy in - not because you convinced him. We did the same thing. I crunched the #s every which way I could. Showed him the facts - trying as hard as I could to leave to the facts and keep emotions out of it. I tried very hard to make sure the decision (both his and mine) were not based on our "wants" and really made sense financially for us. Once I answered all of his questions I let him think about it. Then when it came down to it, I was getting cold feet and he couldn't understand why I hadn't finalized everything yet :rotfl: We sent our contract back yesterday and we are BOTH very excited about the purchase. Our trip isn't until May of '09 but he said yesterday "I'm ready to go - can't we just go now?!" :rotfl2: It's very comforting to know that he's as comfortable with the purchase as I am and he is just as excited too.

The biggest mistake we made so far in our almost 20 years of marriage was NOT BUYING INTO DVC BACK IN 93. Trust me.....DO IT NOW and don't put it off. It will only go up up up. My dh didn't want to add on to our points in Aug. when I wanted to with the latest DVC incentive at AKV so I accepted it. I didn't buck the system and two days later he called me from work and said "let's do it". I hope you get that phone call or email soon!!! THEN SIGN FAST, MAIL FAST and OH YEAH.....as soon as you pay your deposit over the phone you can book a trip right away. My points were there within hours....not sure if that was becauese I added on...but BOOK THAT FIRST TRIP. Don't give him a chance to have Buyer's Remorse. :rotfl:

Thanks to everyone who has responded with suggestions, words of encouragement, or just plain ol' pixie dust. I am still waiting on DH's decision. We spoke last night, as we always do when he's on the road, and I decided not to bring it up and see what he said. At the end of our conversation, he said, "Why don't we talk about DVC tomorrow morning?" Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'll take it as a good thing, I guess, that it wasn't an immediate, "No." :-)

As luck would have it, I wasn't going to be able to talk with him this morning because our morning schedule was nutty. (I told him last night that it probably wouldn't be a great time to chat.) So then he said, "Well, maybe tomorrow afternoon, then." Well, it's afternoon here folks!!! And the wait is still killing me. I'm not a patient person with little things - BIG things are pure torture!

I keep trying to tell myself that even if we don't buy DVC, we will still have wonderful vacations in our future. But I just really think that if we pass this up we'll regret it. Maybe not in the immediate future, but in ten years or so, when only God knows what DVC will be selling for!

Thanks for your continued thoughts here - and for letting me continue to vent. Still keeping my fingers crossed, but trying not to get my hopes up.

Oooh! Oooh! Oooh!

Just got off the phone with DH, and I think we're a go!!!

We haven't done the final "YES! LET'S DO IT!" But he did agree that he thinks it would be a good thing. We still need to hammer out a couple of things - which we're going to do tonight. I'm trying so hard not to shout from the rooftops yet - and use all kinds of fun smilies. Because nothing is official yet. But with any luck, tonight there will be a post here, or a whole new thread, with lots of capital letters and exclamation points in it - and with any luck it won't be because I'm cursing or crying. :-)

More to come. Thanks to all who keep listening. I hope you can recall how anxious and excited you were when you were in my shoes!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! I'm keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for you (well, I had to uncross the eyes so I could type).

I hope I'll be joining you as new owners in January!

Just wanted to send some additional pixiedust: pixiedust: :wizard: your way!!
Hang in there and remember, good things come to those who wait. If it helps - you might want to make a list of where you see your lives going in the next few years. Are you going to be taking the trips anyway OR are you more likely to only go every other year or so? I don't know your situation but as someone said earlier - it is a lifestyle change kind of because you are investing in yourselves. Me, I firmly believe that vacations are vital to a healthy family relationship. It allows time for free non-stressed communication and just family bonding time without all the extra stuff going on in the background like school schedules, friends coming over, homework, work, phone ringing, etc. etc. I think you know what I mean. Then on top of that, you are creating wonderful memories for your kids and yourselves. That's just my personal opinion but it is a big decision but it's also a great time to be getting into it. Did you know that in 2011, they are building DVC villas in Hawaii??! I am so stoked about that all by itself.
