In MS Word, How Do You...

I placed an underline in Word 2007 by typing _______ and hitting enter.

How do I get rid of that underline?

Right now, it shows up at the bottom of the first page and at the end of the document on the second page.

I tried using online help to no avail.

Any ideas?

I HATE the underline problem.

Two thoughts - is the underline in a "footer" or is it in the main body of the document?

If it is in the main body of the document - I have found that if I am just doing an underline - i.e. to separate sections, that word changes it to a image. try clicking around the line and see if an image box pops up around the line, and then you can delete it.

If it is in a footer, you would need to get to the header/footer view and see what is showing up in the "custom" footer area of word.

It's not in the footer on the first page. It's immediately above it.

On the second page, it's immediately beneath the last of the text.

It was not turned into an image. (Heck, no, that would have been too easy.)

I tried to duplicate your problem and this is what I came up with...

Make sure you are in the home tab. Go to the paragraph grouping and click on the border icon. Choose No Border. It worked for me.

I also tried to duplicate it and here's another suggestions.
First, put the cursor just above the line.
Go to "Edit", "Clear" then "Contents".
It took out the long line & left a small one but the small one
doesn't show up in print preview.
