In light of the recent terror attack in Orlando, I think Disney's security system is not good enough

You should address your comments and concerns to Disney Parks themselves. They're really the only entity that can do anything about your concerns. I don't agree with your concerns, but we can't do anything for you in eliminating them.
How am I supposed to feel when disney rarely every really searches me. How do they know if I'm a bad guy or not??

Because DCL deals with up to 4,000 people every few days when it comes to security. Disney world deals with 40,000-50,0000 on a normal day. A "light" daye at EPCOT is 30K. Do you want hours long security lines? It woukd be worse than the TSA. At that poiny what stops someone from attacking before the security point?

When was your last trip? I'm on mobile so can't see any signatures. This past weekend even before Sunday I can tell you I was searched more that I ever have been. I was pulled aside twice for extra screening and every single person wearing cargo pants/shorts eas asked to empty their pockets. The day we had our bags they searched every single back and if there was anything hard at the bottom they took everything out.
We go once a year to WDW and DCL and used to go to DL every weekend for about 8 years when we lived in Socal and now we go to DL a few times a year since we live in Norcal.

I was there last month and thought the bag searches were more thorough than previous trips, especially at MK. My first 5 entries I was randomly picked for the metal detector, about 50% after that. They need to get everyone through the metal detectors.

This is not a recent observation. We have noticed this for years and years. We still go but we are not happy with the lack of real security and we feel that unfortunately it's only a matter of time before there is an attack at a Disney park. We hope to God we are wrong but odds are against us. Disney needs to step up before it's too late.

I don't understand why you go. I would never go somewhere I felt was as unsafe as you say. :confused3

Disney security is top notch, outside the park. I rarely see any police inside the park itself. Hopefully they have undercovers at Disney watching.

I will say this though, if you have no bags, you literally just walk though. If some crazy had something strapped on him under his shirt, they would never know.

Also, you can be anywhere in the country and a attack can happen. You can't stop living your life. Live it day by day.

Not true. The are constantly changing the parameters for the detectors. Was there 3 weeks ago and DS who carries no bags was picked a few times for the detectors. Am sure in time we will ALL be walking through the detectors.

The coward who shot the people in the nightclub did so because when he scoped out the building and went there a few times to research it, he found that they did not have ANY security in place at all. No bag checks, no metal detectors. He studied and planned to go at last call because he knew the resistance and attention levels would be lower due to alcohol and patrons being tired.

I was there on Monday and the bag checks and metal detectors as well as the police presence was off the charts. And I am sure there will be an intense amount of security enforcement in months to come.

DCL staggers the arrival of its guests thru Port Arrival times (PAT) they are in 15 minute increments and they open their gates at 10:30 on cruise days to arriving guests. Disney resorts don't have that ability to limit who can arrive and when. They have metal detectors and a heavy police presence at the terminal entrance as well as dogs with handlers to check the luggage area before that gets loaded onto the ship.

It is a sad state of the world, but we cannot live in fear. The man who killed those 49 people and injured so many more, did so because he was a coward and he knew he could get away with it with no fight or premise of being forced down or back.

Even before the recent terror attack in Orlando when we learned that this monster was casing out Disney World for a possible attack, my family and I discussed how we felt that the security at Disney is a joke. Half the time we go through security the person just feels out our bag with a couple of squeezes from the bottom then peeks into the top of the bag and that's it.

I think that out of the hundreds of times we have been to Disney parks, we were searched in a good thorough manner about 5 times. Other times, I've turned to my husband and told him that we could have had guns and bombs in our bags and they wouldn't have known. We were disgusted with the lack of real security and searches.

Many times the security person saw our son's big black diabetes kit and he/she asked what was in there. I replied that it was our diabetes kit and they just said, "oh, ok, thank you" What the heck?? Why are they taking my word for it??? I could have had a weapon in there and you just take my word for it?

I addition to that, we have walked through security a multitude of times with layers of clothes and jackets on when it's cold and nobody bothered to check us. Again, we could have had weapons under our layers. I realize that if they start doing more thorough checks, the lines will get slower and longer but that's fine with me. I would rather be delayed a bit than killed.

Disney has known since 9/11 that it has been a target. Intelligence has found multiple times that terrorists had Disney on their possible target list. Is Disney going to wait until there is a tragedy before they tighten security up and take this seriously just like the recent death of the little baby with the alligator??

Sounds like you should stay home. But who provides your security there?? Do you go to grocery stores? Do you go to gas stations? There's far less effective security in public gathering places than at Disney. You're scaring yourself...and that's their game. Keep us scared and alter our lives. No thank you...deal me out! I will move through my life in a way that affords me the opportunity to bless others in every, single day.

Truthfully if someone wanted to do something terrible. They could go through the back entrances with very little stoppage and come into the parks and do a ton of damage. It is no way to live to live in fear. I live in Orlando. This horrendous event happened not that far away and the vast majority of people killed were my friends, siblings, and my age. We also remember distinctly the day our world changed for ever with the events of 9-11. We have had many conversations in the last few days about we can't let one deranged person ruin our outlooks on life. Not every person is out to kill, not every person is out to hate. We need to get over this fear of everything. Fear of our neighbors, fear of differences, fear of the unknown, etc is what is causing all of the hatred in this world.

There is a reason that the TSA is looking at how DISNEY handles security to better their job. If you feel that unsafe, please don't go. It isn't a good vacation to live in fear that something could happen.

I saw several undercover officers/security at AK the other night. They were definitely mingling in with the crowds.

This.

But OP, don't waste time at Guest Relations in the park with this, all they will do with this kind of comment is send it up the ladder to corporate. Better to contact corporate directly.

And I say this with respect: until you feel safe at Disney, don't go there. And maybe not try to rile everyone up right now, it's been a tough week.

I was part of security planning and operations at a maximum security facility at one point. I can tell you that there is a lot more going on at Disney than you know. I've seen at Disney and pointed out to my wife many elements she hasn't seen. Keep in mind that all security systems are multi-layered with elements you can see and elements you can't. At Disney you have been watched by cameras and people from the moment you got out of your car or stepped off the bus.

What people are calling theatre really isn't. It's the first point of physical contact and they do find many things at the security points. But it isn't the only security presence and it the doesn't stop there. Take a careful look around. They have numerous people around the entrance areas observing the crowds looking for unusual behaviour. Yes, slowing down people is part of the process. So is being inconsistent. The more unpredictable the security is the harder it is to for the bad guys to plan to get around. What might work one day won't the next. Keep them guessing.

Among the people around are armed Orange County Sherrif Department officers. They are most obvious at the Epcot main gate. Inside the park there are cameras everywhere and staff members observing, including fake vacationers. They also have a few uniformed Disney police to remind folks. And I'm sure there is a lot more going on.than I have seen.

Point is, don't go by the little bit you see at those screening tables. They are only one part of the process. Disney is good at this and will have multiple layers of security out there that you can't and aren't supposed to see.

Doesn't matter if they lock the place down like Fort Knox. People who do these sort of mass shooting don't care if they die in the process. They will find a way. Personally, I'm not letting terrorists scare me out of traveling. That's what they want, afterall.

If I honestly thought that way, I would avoid going to WDW.
