in direct flights

Hi Every one

I just wondered if any one had done a in-direct flight we are with one stop at Newark then on to Orlando Intl The flight to Newark from our airport Bristol Intl is queit often late I just wondered if this happens on the day of our flight what happens with the second flight do they just change you to the next flight?

i suppose it depends on the airline, but as far as i know, if you're late for your connecting flight, they put you on the next flight available..

we always fly through JFK or Newark...

the last time we flew through JFK, we were late for our connecting flight...once we got out of customs, we went to the airline rep...she told us that they had moved us to the next flight down to orlando - the last one of the day.....since the flight was out of la guardia instead of JFK, the airline provided us transportation to get to the flight...

Oh right was it quiet a long delay

Hi,
we tend to go in-direct using United via Washington or Chicago and whenever we have missed our connecting flight the airlines have always put us on the next available flight and even upgraded us a couple of times due to the inconvenience.
I quite enjoy going in-direct as it can break the journey up some times.

We flew to Orlando via Newark pre Sept 2001.

Our flight was a little delayed and they were waiting for us when we arrived at the gate. We were led through the airport at a run, as the connecting flight was waiting for us! How lucky was that?

The view from the plane when you take off, is amazing and we were lucky enough to be sitting next to a pilot (off duty!!) who pointed out all the landmarks to us.I mention pre Sept 2001, as we also got a glimpse of the Twin Towers as we ran through the airport - for which I am grateful even though they were in the distance.

We flew with Continental last year with connections both ways and our outbound flight was nearly an hour delayed in landing (no space so we had to circle for ages, nice views of the NY countryside though ) Luckily our connection was more than adequate so it didn't affect us but a few people mentioned having very tight ones so I assume those who missed flights were put onto the next available one, that tends to be procedure for most airlines.
Our flight from Newark to San Fran was delayed by about the same amount because we had to wait ages in the 'runway queue' due to the time of day.. Newark is a veeery busy airport and a Continental hub so I get the impression that delays of varying lengths are pretty commonplace, it's more of a concern on the way there than on the way back since you need to pick up and drop off your luggage and clear immigration which can take a fair bit of time so i'd say 2 hours connection outbound at a minimum is wise.
