In Defense of Bob Chapek

I honestly don't know. The claim from Renegade Online and others is yes, but lets just say for example that isn't the reason and the reason is because the movies aren't very good - but Renegade Online is correct in saying that Chapek is tightening the reigns on movie production and having all stories reviewed by a team who will ensure the movies are successful not by removing diversity or inclusion - but by making sure the movies (and shows) are better by telling a more compelling and interesting story - it all sounds good to me.

Yeah - a lot of those vloggers also have their own agenda - the anti-agenda agenda. Basically if they use the term "woke" for any reason, they aren't worth one iota of time (not necessarily saying this particular one does).

There has definitely been a drop-off in quality at Disney recently. It came off some real creative highs just a few years ago, so mostly it's still good, but it's not as speical as it was, particularly in the animation department. The departure of Alan Horn is greatly felt, and the loss of Lasseter hit animation hard too.

Totally agree with you that the vloggers have their own agenda and its why I've tried to capture that these videos specifically are saying something (not me) - and honestly probably none of us know whether their claims are true or not. But it makes for interesting discussion imho. popcorn::

In terms of quality, there is a pretty hilarious series of YT videos of why Toy Story 4 is terrible that I thought was interesting. I honestly had no issues when watching Toy Story 4 myself, but the videos bring up some interesting points about things (some of it you need to chalk up to suspension of disbelief though - you would likely hate all movies if you can't at least do this, but the videos are funny nonetheless especially with how passionate the speaker is).

I still haven't seen Toy Story 4, but honestly I hate videos that spend so much time on tearing something down. It's like fans of things want to spend so much time hating said thing that they forget why they ever loved it in the first place.

When I hear the term woke my eyes roll so far and fast into the back of head that I nearly fall over. Lol

I guess I found it funny to see how much passion someone had into it - he made some valid points, but I just got a good laugh out of it.

I don't recall saying Ms Marvel was only for kids, a family show imho is one that everyone can enjoy, kids included. I would happily watch Spiderman with my kids too. When I said I watch Ms Marvel with my kids - I didn't mean it was like torture watching it with my kids ... I meant I have been enjoying watching it with my kids :)

Most of the shows made exclusively for kids, I can't stand to watch but my kids love (even some of the shows I loved as a child are horrible to watch as an adult because the stories are way over simplified for a younger audience).
I didn't mean you in particular, it was more of a general comment on why it hasn't been watched as much as other Marvel shows.

In all reality the internet is the biggest barrier to understanding opposing viewpoints. Not to get all high and mighty because I'm guilty of it over the years too but the anonymity and extreme bias confirmation that we get from the internet lends itself to making any rift larger between two opposing viewpoints. If the people in this chat let's say, got together at a bar or over dinner in a relaxed environment and had long meaningful conversations over the same topics or any controversial topic I guarantee there would be some realization on everyone's part that their viewpoint isn't completely right and that there is some validity to what the other person is saying about the same topic. It's why people used to argue and have wildly differing ideas yet were still best friends or mates. These days it is harder and harder for people on opposite sides of any spectrum, political or social or otherwise, to remain close. People these days desire echo chambers because the rhetoric has gotten too harsh to deal with having open conversations about things. And yes...it is the internets fault. But for better or worse this is what society has accepted as normal. Cheers!

Laughed a lot. The Editor gets an A+.

As I've given this some more thought - I'll say, my issue with Disney movies and shows lately is that they seem to be writing stories to hit their agendas instead of focusing on storytelling.

...

However, I do think that certain stories have been written with a specific agenda in mind - and I know some people may wholeheartedly disagree with me or automatically label me as racist/sexist/whatever else because of this - but I'd like to think I can separate good storytelling from discriminating against a certain person.

When the agenda gets in the way of storytelling thats where I have the problem. BTW- I am not a white male.
What agenda? Showing dif types of ppl? Who is they? What is this agenda you keep mentioning? You honestly sound like a conspiracy theorist, it's very strange. Say specifics instead of being so vague. "Agenda".

Ah I see. You are watching you tube to get your opinions and reviews. That explains a lot. The algorithm is training you (and the rest of society - not just you).

That's been a huge problem for a long time. Remember when the prequels came out? When we first saw The Phantom Menace, I and all of my friends thought it was great - we loved it! We saw it several times. It seemed plenty popular, despite critics not being on board. The fans were all excited about the movie and the merch etc. Then one day, everyone suddenly hates it - vehemently. It has ruined Star Wars and George Lucas is a joke! Why? Because some very long, intricate, and now infmaous video picked the movie apart bit by bit, criticizing every little thing about it and telling viewers why they are wrong to like it. And that was it - now it was cool to hate on it, and people have - relentlessly - for decades. The ST took some of the heat off the prequels finally and they are finally starting to get some respect!

Correct, there is a negative bias, particular on YouTube, because it is human nature to click on negative thumbnails and clicks=$$. I don't really even read reviews much anymore because they are so tainted. It's the same with clickbait everywhere. It's tough to resist.

I was fine with the last few Star Wars movies. I particularly liked the first of the new series. Were they as good as the originals, no, but thats my genX bias showing probably. I wonder how the original ones would fare in todays media climate. I can see it now:

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER IS LUKE'S FATHER? REALLY!?!

You are right, and the agenda of Disney is to sell movie tickets, theme park tickets, merchandise, streaming subscriptions, and anything else they can to make money. Anything else is in service to that goal in one way or another.
Correct. Unfortunately they’ve veered from that path recently and are now bearing those fruits. I hope they remember, it was all started by a mouse.

Not to answer for Liquidice, but every company has an Agenda/angle, Disney has definitely waded into controversial waters in some instances. Whether or not those instances should be considered controversial is a completely different conversation, the fact that they are doing this through very limited time slots in their movies, shows, ect. is still ground breaking for a company this day in age (as sad as that is). I assume the THEY he was referring to is Disney the company. I think you could say that Disney has a more liberal leaning agenda, it's not like they are out there pushing conservative ideals, and the fact that you can point to tangible moments in their media and say that's controversial, right or wrong, that would show they are picking a side of an argument.

That being said, companies wading into controversial waters isn't always a bad thing, Jackie Robinson comes to mind

Oh, yeah, if it had been the other way around, if these folks had seen Episodes I, II, & III in the 70's and 80's, then A New Hope came out, they'd all be trashing it too. I've got news for people - you love Star Wars because you were 8 years old when you saw it and - get this - Star Wars is for 8 year olds! The prequels were for 8 year olds at the time, and the sequels are too! I love them all personally, but I never had my inner child taken out and shot like so many people have.

I haven’t seen said video. I still dislike the prequels. Weird to think some random YouTube video submarined that entire franchise for decades.
