In and Out in a Day

Happy Thursday peeps!!

Kat ~ WOOHOO!!! I am so proud of Marisa. Matthew is a Phi Theta Kapa. He was invited when he was at NCTA his first 2 years before he transferred to the University. And you are SO right, the doors are wide open. Being a Phi Theta Kapa looks real real good on a resume. That is one of the things they looked at when he started at the bank and was a big reason he got the Nebraska Bankers Scholarship. You tell her how proud I am of her and to use it to her advantage. Because the advantages are priceless. :cheer2: Good for her. :cheer2:

It is suppose to get to the high 80's today. I even think Doug is going to hit the links for a last round of golf. It may rain tonight with a cold front coming in after midnight and then it will cool off to the 70's. The forecast doesn't have us in the 80's again. I only wish I was outside today to enjoy it. I have to get my flowerbeds ready and today would be perfect.

I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. I went for a cleaning last week and I have a cavity. REALLY!!! I haven't had a cavity since I was a little girl. Plus she said I had a very clean mouth (no plaque and a good flosser) how can I have such a clean mouth and get a cavity? :confused3 I hate the dentist - with a passion. I would rather go get a mammogram than go to the dentist. Wish me luck......I am such a baby!!

WFDT ~ Egg sandwich, chips and hot tea. Doug will eat at the Country club.

Make it a great day.

Yikes Nancy, oompa loompa is not a good look for anyone! I hope you aren't too uncomfortable. I have the tiniest bit of poison ivy and it just won't go away. Sorry you have to top it off with such a long day.

Well I have been enjoying more time off than I had originally planned and I am getting so much done around the house and yard. It is just warm enough to have all the windows open during the day, but we need to close them at night. And the sunshine has been awesome. This is truly a spectacular fall. Today I'm going to take full advantage of it and go cranberry picking. You don't get much more Cape Cod than that!

Meatloaf, acorn squash and something else for dinner. Have a great day all!

Robin- I hope that your time off is wonderful! It is so nice to have a little time that is solely yours, and that you can do whatever you want to do with, even if it is cleaning! I am jealous that you care cranberry picking. When we stayed in Plymouth, one of my favorite sights were those marvelous cranberry bogs.

Talk about weather swings! It is drab and overcast here today, Yuck! I wish it was 80's an sunny so I cold have my windows wide opened.

It is no surprise to me that Mathew was Phi Theta Kapa! :thumbsup2 Our accounting professor made a point of discussing this last night, and Marisa is all set. He is writing er a letter of recommendation!

I am working on homework today, but Marisa and I are heading to my favorite consignment store as well. I love to poke around in there, and then Buddy and I have an appointment at the pension office. He wants to know what his options are and then decide if he will retire. I think he should wait until he is at least 62, but I understand that he wants to get things straightened out. He is also worried that if something happens to him, I will need to do it, and he does not want that to happen. I just do not want to think about retirement! He is a bear all winter, so I don't know why he thinks year round home time will be fun when he cannot stand 3 or 4 months. Oh well, we'll see.

Nancy- The bogs off cape in Plymouth really are impressive, the bogs here are much smaller but there are a few big ones. We went to a wild bog so no where near as impressive in size, but the setting was stunning. Congratulations to Marissa! How are you feeling, still oompa loompaish?

Ellen- You would have loved cranberry picking, it was a wild bog, so not like you see in the ocean spray commercials. We had to hike through the sand dunes to get to them, I had never been to this particular spot- it was pretty cool. A lot of other people had been there though so it was pretty picked over. We are going to try a couple of other spots this weekend. Good luck at the dentist. I just had a cavity filled and I was okay with it, I knew the only thing I would feel was the needle and then nothing. I've really come a long way with the dentist. I have a cleaning in a couple of weeks and I'm almost ok with it.

Today I'm in for a big adventure. I'm going to Kohl's. Once just opened sort of near us and I've never been. We are also getting a Whole Foods sometime next year and I can't wait for that. I've heard they are very expensive but I think it will still be a fun store to wonder around.

I think we are going to get pad thai tonight, I had lost a few pounds but I'm pretty sure I'll find them in the pad thai! Have a great day all.

TGIF!! Nuff said!

Nan ~ I am SO ready to retire. We have about 10 -12 years yet but it is funny how things change. We really are starting to talk about it. I am ready!! I was a stay at home Mom, and loved it. I wasn't wanting or looking for a job when the Church asked me. But 12 years later I am still here - I love it - but I would love being home way more. I loved loved being a homemaker. So retirement sounds pretty good to me.
I love consignment stores - I swear we are twins!!:rotfl2:

Robin ~ WOW - just wow. The bogs sounds so neat. See that is what is so neat about us. I probably will never ever see a cranberry bog, but through you I can almost "see" it. Isn't is neat how different these United States are?
Have fun at Kohls!! You will LOVE Whole Foods. There is one in Omaha and whenever we go we stop in. You are right it is very expensive but there are things there that I have never ever seen. It is quite an adventure. I love the spice and grain parts.

Well it is Friday and we are not going to Lincoln. It's kind of strange to not have my bag packed. But we are looking forward to getting some things done around the house. It is suppose to be cold and rainy all weekend so we may have to be inside.

We play Perdue on Saturday - there. "GO BIG RED"

Our BIG Church Auction is this Sunday. We have gotten some wonderful things in. It is always a great time and we raise thousands of dollars all to go to Mission. A real good time - I can't wait.

WFDT ~ Hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes with roasted beets. It's a comfort kind of day. :goodvibes

Make it a great day and weekend.

Good Friday morning! TGIF here as well! I am much better, bummpy wise, but still pretty cranky. At least i am not scaring small children anymore!

We had a nice night. Buddy's cousin got her settlement, and she has been insisting that she take us to dinner to reciprocate what we do for her, so, we went to a Chinese restaurant that we all like. It was delicious, and we knew it would not cost her a fortune.

WE were supposed to get rain today, but it is stunning, so I made some changes and am going to continue to work on the porch. It is a great day to be sealing cedar so that is my plan. i will start as soon as I swap my wash, and by then it will be warm enough.

Ellen- I love being home! I don't do as much of the canning and preserving that I used to do, but Buddy would like for me to do it again. We'll see. He is 61 next year, and had had enough I think. He has worked at the same address for over 40 years, and has over 30 good years in. We went over all of the plans, and the numbers, and while he is already vested and can go next February, I think once he looks them all over he will wait the additional year. I cannto tell him though, this is up to him.

I am a little worried about insurance though, so I need to do some research to find out how long we can buy Teamsters insurance. If he only has until 62 when medicare kicks in, I need to really look into plans and I am lost now that Obamacare is underway. Until I know how it is going to affect us, we cannot make informed decisions, and it is pretty hard to get info right now.

Robin- Your cranberry picking sounds like such an adventure! I love to pick fruit, but I am not sure I would survive that! I sure would love teh chance to find out though!

Maris is working on my flashdrive. I lost a project on it, and was devastated! The professor gave me the week to do it again but I hope she can recover it I liked it and do not know if I can replicate it, so wish her luck!

Oh, well, enough for now. I will check back soon, but in the meantime...have a wonderful afternoon!

Ellen- What a day! I wish that you did not need to have the procedure, but if you have to go through with it, thank goodness you shop it off afterwards!

A little Mom brag, if you don't mind :wizard: Marisa was invited into Phi Theta Kapa! I hope she takes advantage, it will open doors for her!

I have been reading back and trying to catch all the important stuff. I missed quoting your post about the procedure, but I'm glad it sounds like it went well. How are you feeling now?

Congratulations, Marisa!

Okay, this sounds fascinating. You said it has a stunning setting, but WHERE are the pictures?! Hmmmmm? Please! :flower3:

I would make a terrible homemaker. Consignment stores are fun. My favorite stores are used book stores though. There's one I really like in Brooklyn - it's a little far for browsing regularly. :upsidedow

Yes, the diversity is pretty incredible!

Glad to hear your bumps are better. I hope you fully recover soon. Sounds like it's been miserable.

Were you able to get the project recovered? I know what you mean about having to re-do a project. It's never the same beyond the first attempt.

Just jumping back in. Hope everyone and everything is well.

:yay::yay: Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Piglet- I have to do it over I think. Marisa found the pictures so at least i can use them and not have to find more.

I am freezing today! I am supposed to be doing a test for homework, but I cannot even think abut it. I think I will just go to the market and pick up something to cook for dinner. ;)

Ugh on the do-over for the project. :headache:

I am hot today. Too bad we can't get the weather to compromise for us.

Happy Monday Ladies,

Nan ~ Oh I am so sorry about the lost paper. Computers are so awesome until they don't work.
I hear you on the insurance - that is scary. I know you will figure it out. Good luck!!

PIO ~ Are you home already? If so welcome home!!

Bethany ~ Sorry about your Saints last night. I was sure rooting for you.

The auction was a complete success. We made over $5000.00. All going to Mission. We had a blast - a great time by all of us.

It is raining this morning and really windy and cold. I am so glad I have an inside job. Today is not fit to be outside at all. It is suppose to rain all day and even into tomorrow. We had our lawn, corrals and orchard sprayed last week so this is amazing for us. But not so much for the farmers, they are right in the middle of harvest and this will set them back at least a week.

WFDT ~ Chicken chili (in the crockpot) and a crusty bagette.

Make it a great day!

Totally Tuesday!!

PIO ~ Wow, I can't believe you are home already. That sure went fast. I have been following along on Alison's TR. You all really did have a good time. I will get on yours right away. Thanks!!

I got a call about 8:00 pm last night. Another parishioner has passed. This was a good friend of my Mommas. It is a blessing, but it is never easy. Her funeral will be on Friday. If any of you are keeping count this is 4 funerals in 2 weeks. That is a new record for us. And it is only the 15th of the month. I called the Courtesy Chair (remember the one that wouldn't do the last one) right away when I heard. She was super nice and will be doing this one. PHEW!!!

It is cold and windy this morning. We are to have a freeze tonight. My Mums are just starting to be beautiful. I hope to remember to cover them before bed. I even had to wear a coat to work this morning. Burr......

WFDT ~ Roasted Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. It's that kind of day!! :thumbsup2

Make it a great day!

Burrrrrrr..........it is a cold Wednesday!!

:flower3: to all who come in later.

Oh.My.Goodness winter is here!! I got up this morning and the temp. was 23 degrees. We covered all of my plants last night but I really don't think they will survive. Usually a fast 32 degrees they will be all right. But 23 is a hard freeze. We shall see. My mums were just beautiful this year. Makes me kind of sad!! :sad1:

Doug and I are going to get our Flu shots tonight. Have you all gotten yours? If not - make an appointment TODAY!! Matthew got his last Friday. He is such a BIG boy now days ;) :rolleyes1. Can you all remember the year he ran out of the Medical clinic and flat refused? He has come a long way...........he got it this year all by himself. Well the girls helped a bit as if he didn't get it, he couldn't be around the babies. :) Yep that did it and the fact that the Bank pays for them. :thumbsup2

WFDT ~ We are going for a Runza and chili after our shots. YUM!

Make it a great day.

Ellen- Sorry you have another funeral, so many at one time. I work with a number of volunteers who are elderly and it's sad to watch as their health starts to fail. A few are in their 90's and put me to shame in all they accomplish in a day. I'm sorry to say but I think my work will be in for a few sad years ahead.

PIO- Welcome home!

Nancy- I'm sorry you had to do your project over, hope it went smoothly.

Bethany- Sorry, no pictures. I don't know if pictures would do it justice anyway, I think you'd need to see it in person to get the full scale of the sand dunes.

Not sure on dinner, have to head to the store and see what looks good.

Ellen- Oh no! Not another funeral :sad2: What a month. I am so sorry, I know that there are times when passing on is a blessing, but it is never easy to let someone go. I am not surprised that woman was "nice" because after the last time, she might be out of a "job". If it is clear you can get it all done, she is not needed. At all.

Pio-How was heading back to work after a extended break? I bet they missed you a LOT!

I got the project sone and it was pretty good. I have class tonoght but I dont feel like going. Marisa is a bad influence, she wants to stay home ;) But it is kady's 12th birthday, so I get it. Buddy is taking her to WElby's for her birthday dinner.

Nancy - Sorry about the lost project. I hope the re-do wasn't too painful and I'm glad you got it done. I haven't headed back to work yet. Tuesday. HB to Kady.

Ellen - Condolences to you and the congregation. Glad you don't have to do the funeral.

Robin - It's sure nice to be home. I had hoped not to suffer too much from the post holiday blues; and I've got some....but I'm ignoring it for now.

 to everyone!

What is this "23 degrees" you speak of? :rotfl: We are having a cold front coming in. Our high will only be 79 instead of in the upper 80s. Woot!

I tried to get my flu shot a couple weeks ago. I was denied; my insurance does not cover flu shots. :confused3

Bethany- Sorry, no pictures. I don't know if pictures would do it justice anyway, I think you'd need to see it in person to get the full scale of the sand dunes.

Not sure on dinner, have to head to the store and see what looks good.

Well, phooey. I was hoping to see photos. Where is this place to go see in person?

That's dangerous. I headed to the store while hungry. It ALL looked good. :rolleyes1 I ended up rolling through McDonald's though on the way home. I got too hungry on the way home.

I got the project sone and it was pretty good. I have class tonoght but I dont feel like going. Marisa is a bad influence, she wants to stay home ;) But it is kady's 12th birthday, so I get it. Buddy is taking her to WElby's for her birthday dinner.

Does this staying home have to do with a certain sports schedule by chance?

Good morning all,

Robin ~ I have a few little ladies here that also put me to shame. My office in on the ground floor, right inside the main door. I had a lady - she is 95 - come in the other day wanting a prayer book from the Library. It is on the 3rd floor. I told her I would help her look and headed for the elevator. She was taking the stairs. And she just about beat me up them. I was shocked. I told her I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Made her day.

Nan ~ Happy Birthday to Kady. I can't believe the little scoot is 12. Oh my where has the time gone?
I am so glad you finished your report. I don't know what to tell you to do different, but I truly hope it never happens again.
I totally agree but it is all volunteer and if I push to hard she will walk away (she is that type of person) and then I WILL have to do it. In my job I bite my tongue quite a bit. :rolleyes1

PIO ~ Oh you are one smart cookie. I usually go back to work the very next day I get home from vacation. I always say I'm not going to, but then I add a day here and there and my time is all gone. You are giving yourself a nice bit of time before you have to go back - Good for you!!

Bethany ~ I heard on the news this morning that you and most of the very Southern states are still in warm weather. We are really cold for this time of year up here. So enjoy it for me......ok?

It is going to be a looooong winter I think. We are already 20 degrees below where we should be for this time of year. Our trees are beautiful though. The Farmers Almanac is forecasting an above normal snow fall and colder temps. I LOVE winter till Christmas, then it can warm up to 70. I love having the 4 seasons. Fall has to be my favorite though.

Doug and I got our flu shots last night and we both remarked that our arms didn't hurt very bad today. The gal that gave them was great. I didn't even feel it. I was surprised when it was done.

WFDT ~ Liver and onions, boiled potatoes with gravy and harvard beets.

Make it a great day.

TGIF!!!

Busy morning already, but I wanted to pop in and say hi. We are in full funeral preparation here this morning. I am in charge of the sound board today. Doug came with me last night for a good lesson on what I need to do. I feel a lot better about it now.

We have a bye week this Saturday, so we won't be going to Lincoln. But we have a jam packed weekend anyway. Tomorrow Doug and I are getting our haircut. Elizabeth is working so tomorrow it is!!

On Sunday we are going to the Pumpkin Patch. I can't wait - that will be so much fun!

Somewhere in there I have a list of thing I HAVE to get done around the house. They will be finished before I go back to work on Monday, even if I have to burn some midnight oil. I have put things off long enough.

WFDT ~ Bacon Cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries and watermelon pickles.

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Officially, I've been home a week now. I head back to work on Tuesday and I think I'm looking forward to it. I guess that's the sign of a good break.....when you're ready to resume real life.

Bethany - Sorry that your insurance doesn't cover the flu shot. That sounds like some penny pinching policy to me.

Ellen - Enjoy the Pumpkin Patch! It sounds like fun. Much more fun than the funeral.
